There's three very simple was to escape poverty in this country:
1) Graduate high school
2) Get a job
3) Don't have kids until you're married

Children who grow up in single-parent (predominately single-mothers - fueled by births out of wedlock) households are more likely to graduate high school (and complete more school, on average). Then, as we know, the lack of a diploma is linked to higher crime, poverty, and unemployment rates.
