Never, in ALL my years of gaming, have I ever encountered something so unanimously hated on by a community.
Skill-Based Matchmaking.
Granted, the game has numerous problems. I'll ignore all of those for now. SBMM has proven, time and time again, to be the constant plague of PvP. I've seen COUNTLESS posts asking and begging for its removal. And yet, after months of "tweaking the matchmaking," it is still blatantly obvious that it exists, and is consistently ruining the experience. Unbelievably horrible connections, the constant sweaty matches, and the solo-players-against-full-teams-in-iron-banner because of SBMM is pathetic and inexcusable. This is YOUR game, Bungie. The community has been in agreement for MONTHS that this is a problem and simply needs to be removed, or at the very least, DRASTICALLY changed so that it is no longer relevant.
I'm still in disbelief how this is even still a thing. Remember Black Ops 3, when they tried implementing SBMM in? The backlash from the community was loud and clear, and Treyarch, in response, took it back out within a matter of days. YOURS has been causing issues for the game for months, the community has been voicing their opinions on it loudly, and still, nothing has been done. It is simply pathetic that no positive action has been taken regarding the situation, and that you don't listen to the clear voice of your community. It's disrespectful and disgraceful.
You need to fix this, Bungie. We're past the point of asking politely. The community DEMANDS that you remove SBMM from Destiny.

3 RepliesCan someone concisely define skill-based matchmaking for me? Obviously I know what the words mean and I have a definition in my head (that guardians are matched against other guardians based on skill level), but I don't understand why people wouldn't want that. Thank you.

I don't really care if it's in there or not. I've played thousands and thousands of games of halo where that was based around skill and ranks. People like you would be the ones on the other side of the beat down my team and I would dish out in social playlists that were unranked. We would not grab the objective and just slaughter the other team until the time ran out. Which didn't make it fun for the other team. If you take out sbmm, your asking for some of this to happen, unless that sounds fun to you?

Yep it got really bad last update. Not playing much this IB... It's just boring the same old tryhard retards with no primaries...

4 RepliesY'know, if Destiny had dedicated servers there would be no lag. Just skill.

I didn't even have to read your post to answer you. Yes, they are listening, and ignoring.

5 RepliesIt's pretty -blam!-ing terrible imo. My k/d has dipped a bit, but not near enough for me to start giving a shit about it. My win/loss ratio has completely plummeted. What I care about is no longer being able to get bounties knocked out efficiently. For example: yesterday I decided to run my Warlock through some crucible to rank up/complete Shaxx bounties. Got all dailies and most Shaxx bounties done in 2 matches of Control. After that I just needed a win in Clash, Skirmish, Salvage and what would work out to be 3 more wins in whatever for the 7 win weekly bounty. Got the clash and salvage win right off but it took 2 goes in Skirmish for that win. Got all this done well inside an hour and just needed 3 more wins to finish up True Meaning of War. Over 2 hrs later I was still at 4/7. Another few matches and finally got one. Continued playing another handful of matches and I swear in every one of those my team would have the lead until last 10-20 seconds of match or get beat to the points cap after only being 100 or so points from it ourselves. I'm not the best player, but surely not the worst either. Before matchmaking was ever messed with I would be on the winning team easily 7/10 matches. Anymore I might win 1/5 or even less. At any rate, the 7 win bounty and win 3 in one day bounties used to come very quickly, now I might have to plant myself in front of the tv for hours to maybe get it done if it's on a character I haven't ran all week. Tldr: yes, regular crucible is far and away too damn sweaty anymore imo.
I realize my opinion is just that. Just wanted to voice it after one of the most frustrating sessions of regular crucible matches I have played since September 2014.
It's so bad these new improvements before it was decent

Couldn't agree more. I'd rather have the off chance of getting my ass handed to me fairly every now and then, than be constantly matched against lag. The worst part is that Bungie forces our hands to report them for cheating/bad connection, when we have no way of telling whether or not it's actually their fault.

2 RepliesWe were doing Kings Fall Hard Mode. We, being level 310's, blew through the raid. We were in a time crunch. Only 2 hours to complete it and XxboyXxkillaXxx had wasted 45 minutes on the jumping puzzle. We blew through Warpriest and Gogoroth. 30 minutes. Once again XxboyXxkillaXxx refused to switch from blink and wasted 20 minutes on the second jumping puzzle. We destroy the sisters in 5 minutes, the 6 of us pumping into Oyrx's Daughters. We have 20 minutes to kill Oyrx. We wipe twice, both times because of XxboyXxkillaXxx refusing to kill the ogres, claiming he is a pacifist. 10 minutes left. We do considerable damage to Oyrx in the first 3 rounds considering XxboyXxkillaXxx jumped off the side in the beginning shouting random Bill Nye quotes. Fourth round. I grab the relic easily. One guy dies by jumping into the ship. Another from the Vessel. 3 people left. We stagger Oyrx, but they don't make it to the blights. It is just me. I do barely just enough damage to Oyrx to bring him to the front. I accidentally reload my ToM, and run out of bullets killing an Aycolyte. I don't have time to use a primary synth. I put my last 3 sniper shots into Oyrx but it isn't enough. I can't use my sword. I am doomed. Oyrx chuckles. Ready to end my life. BUT WHAT IS THIS?! IN THE BOTTOM CORNER OF THE SCREEN! *Shesmynerd has joined the fireteam*. I see him rise above Oyrx. Cast in a veil of light. "Feel my wrath! For my name is Shesmyne... HE SHOT ME THROUGH A WALL!" *Guardian Down" Crap. Oyrx chuckles again. Tbaggs Shesmynerd and messages him, "Git gud skrub". BUT WHAT IS THIS! HOPE! *Smoggypluto has joined the fireteam* I hear the thud of a Sunbreaker super being used. He appears in a silhouette of light. The light slowly dies away and I see him. Smoggypluto. "I am not worthy", I cry. Oyrx screams like a little girl, "THE THERAPISTS SAID YOU WERE A FIGMENT OF MY IMAGINATION!" He looks at Oyrx. He opens his mouth but Morgan Freeman's voice comes out. "This is my swamp". He lifts up his Y10 Gjallihorn and kills Oyrx in one shot, while simultaneously Tbagging Shesmynerd's ghost. We all get our rewards. All 330 Light, except for XxboyXxkillaXxx, he gets shards. I didn't see mine. I sniffle and ask Smoggy what I got. "Check you're inventory." I completely missed Smoggy's misspelling of "your". I inspect myself and ghasp. Primary equiped: Y2 Thorn. Pre nerf. Chestpiece: Twilight Garrison. Secondary: Better Than Yours, exotic sniper. Heavy. I choke back tears. I must be strong for Smoggy. His Y10 Gjallahorn. Signed by Bill Nye, the Science guy. "Smoggy is love. Smoggy is life." I stammer. He hops on Xylar, The Timeless. "Black Ops 3 is going to kill Destiny", XxboyXxkillaXxx remarks. "Shut up Meg", Smoggy says. He winks at me and flies away to help others in need. "Smoggy is love. Smoggy is life." I repeat. The sound of Shesmynerd crying faintly in the background.

1 ReplyEdited by odins_pride: 4/26/2016 2:07:33 AMAll I know from personal experience is that the Crucible is complete hell since the April 12th update. Before the April update I had no issues with SBMM. I was enjoying PvP for the first time since Destiny's release. Two of my characters had K/D's on the rise (not that it matters, but it felt good). Very rarely encountered a red bar. Slight latency issues here and there but nothing for me to cry about. Since April 12th...... Red bar's all over the place, serious lag (shots not registering, melee's not registering, teleporting enemies, etc, etc, etc.). I had my worst Control match since TTK dropped (probably in the last year) early this afternoon with only getting 4 kills and a 0.24 K/D. I bet if I took an average of all matches played since the 12th, my K/D on all 3 characters is probably around 0.5 - 0.6, which would be my worst ever. I don't know what Bungie changed about Crucible with the April update, but they definatly changed something and it sucks monkey dIck. Seriously, a slight nerf and a slight buff to certain weapons could not make such a huge impact on my game (especially if I'm still supposed to be matched with people of my skill level). The frustration is real.

Destiny just isn't fun anymore, whether it's PvE or PvP. It just keeps getting watered down and castrated with each update. The most unique, interesting aspects of Destiny are going out the window. Before long we'll just be playing any and every FPS that incorporates a short "super" that'll be nerfed into nothing and be the 10 second difference between each class.

2 RepliesThere should be ranked and unranked game modes. When power matters make it SBMM, when power doesn't matter keep it CBMM. BUT there needs to be significant improvements to the logic used when different geographies are brought into the equation. If a player from North America is getting matches up against Europe or the Middle East - this is not SBMM that is broken netcode.

I really have not had any bad connection matches. have you ever considered its your internet? and I have only a few times been matched against a 6man fireteam while playing solo. when in a 6man fireteam most of the time im playing against another 6man. everyone on this forum complains constantly about crucible matchmaking when the "problems" are personal internet connection or playing iron banner solo when it is fire team dominated because it is very competitive
-
See, the thing is that when they give you what you want, some other person will waltz in with the opposite viewpoint, and beg for sbnm.

Don't like it. Don't play it.

Edited by mafia: 4/26/2016 1:46:53 AMAGREED Sweaty experiences: I don't mind em, I think it's funny and it kind of improves and makes you think twice in your next match. However, it's getting way to hard for people to go to the lighthouse. To experience a sweaty match is to go round by round till you reach 4-4 and loose or win, this is a sweaty match, but now there are a couple dudes that really -blam!- your team in trials. This isn't at all skill-based... LAG LAG LAG AND MORE LAG: Countless times I lost in the 8th or 7th match to EXTREMELY laggy dudes. What they usually do with my team, they kick one or two players, or they simply lag to the point you'd better just sit and cry. All this is happening very often. Btw, not only in trials but also in almost every crucible playlist people are matching with laggin poops. Plus I remember when youtubers and streamers like nkuch, and many others said that SBMM is really good and makes the game more competitive. Well, I do agree, but I gotta say that not everyone in this game plays as good as they do...
-
I wouldn't be bothered about the matchmaking at its current state if we could have some level of connection too haha the lag has become sooo frustrating I'm playing less and less each day
-
Agreed. I backed out of 5-6 rumble lobbies last night against the top 100 in my country players I know them all by name I play against them so often. I just wanted a chill game with odd weapons.

Edited by Wintermute 2050: 4/26/2016 1:22:59 AMI quite agree that the current system is really flawed. But I also well remember the posts from several months ago when gamers were screaming about connection-based matchmaking and that it should be abandoned. We now have a hybrid of the two types, and it also is failing. A ranked system would be the best solution.
