So I had an idea for Borderlands 3

I posted something similar to this a few years ago in the gearbox forums and was pretty much told I was stupid and what I wanted was not in line with the core beliefs of the game. On the gearbox forums just talking about modding gets your thread locked. If you've played the Borderlands series you'll probably agree that the loot system in Bl2 wasn't that great. Good enemy loot drops were almost non-existent. Having to farm for most of the legendaries was in my opinion tedious, boring and sometimes unrewarding. Don't get me wrong, when I see that legendary laying on the ground after a skirmish it's a great feeling! But most of the time upon closer inspection it's a legendary with crappy parts and or a terrible prefix. What makes sense to me is fix the problem with things that are already in the game. Marcus, money and possibly something like eridium or moonstones. Here's my idea. Make Marcus's gun stores more realistic. If you have ever been to a real gun store you will know that besides guns there is usually a ton of gun accessories. Have Marcus sell guns, gun parts and accessories to make your existing crappy gun into something decent and useable. Say you have been using a low level green rarity Torgue assault rifle. Non matching parts no sight and it's starting to get a little weak. You have a little money saved up so you head to Marcus's shop. Money permitting you could buy the exact parts you want for that specific weapon and essentially turn a green rarity weapon into a blue or purple rarity weapon, again money permitting. You CANNOT turn purple rarity items into legendaries. That would involve changing the name of the weapon. Remember, all you would be doing is swapping crappy parts for better parts. That's the difference between white and purple rarity weapons and gear, parts and prefix. So you have taken a mediocre Torgue rifle and made it a badass purple rarity (insert prefix and name). Dr. Zed could do the same thing with shields. Now good guns/gear is only good for a few levels. What if you could bump up the level on said gear with eridium or moonstones? But what's the point of having a billion guns in a game if you're only going to use just one that you can level up? Let's be honest here, out of the billion said guns in Bl, how many are you actually using? Probably less than 100 are even worth a crap. The rest is just fluff that "might" get you by as you work your way through the game. Even the good guns you pick up might be super awesome but the sight that is on it is the one you dislike the most. Trade in a few trash guns for a new sight that better fits your taste. So there it is. Tell me what you think.

  • Personally, I would just be happy farming a level 32 boss as a level 30 character and not getting a level 29 legendary drop. Always a shot in the nuts when it finally drops.

I think it's a nice idea, I think games like Borderlands could always use more features to get lost into. BUT weren't certain brands of weapons like.... some had scopes, some didn't? I like your idea though!, I think borderlands needs more customization overall

      • I've seen topics on the gearbox forum all the time with this idea years ago. The consensus is that being able to build your own gun beats the purpose of finding loot. You might as well use willowtree or gibbed.

My friend has a friend who supposedly works at Gearbox. He said they're working on a Borderlands game that's focusing more on PvP, not sure if it's the third installment. Possibly part of a new series? Maybe this dude was talking about Battleborn lol who knows

            • Or... play through without farming, make the best out of the loot you do get, and enjoy the game. The only place I farm on occasion is the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve, other than that, nada.

            • There's a simpler way to change and that's weapon crafting but correctly. Say I wan't a double penetrating unkempt Harold that has the fire rate and the mag size of the shreddinator. Break them apart and slap pieces together with the cost of a rare currency(crystals, eridium, monkey balls) and tada new bad ass weapon.

            • Anything past the first one sucked to me. It felt too commercialized. Borderlands felt like a "whatever -blam!- it lets make a game that can't sell well to sane people." It did amazingly and I guess gearbox said "let's do it again!" But couldn't capture the "-blam!- this shit" feel.

                • Honestly, that's a good idea. Except, that goes against Borderlands 1 and 2 in almost anyway. People farm for exact rolls and perks. So, having your idea would destroy the purpose.

                  • Damn i remember seeing this on the GearBox forums. Well 2 things. 1. My opinion is the same as then, I don't think it's a great idea because then people will get to attached to their weapons and will try to always make the best possible weapon and basically everyone will have said weapon Which leads the 2nd thing. 2. I didn't use gibbed save editor then but I knew of its existence. It basically goes with number one but instead is more positive. Take the weapon you want and just give it the parts you're look for. Actually i could've just left 1. out and just said gibbed. My bad.

                    • Then where are the millions and millions of guns gonna go??? It's gonna ruin the whole game if you can just make the one you want!!! Yeah it's a good idea especially when you have loads of money at the end game

A better idea would be to actually release borderlands 3
