With the December nerfs incoming, Sniper Rifles need a rebalance

Nerfing the 2 most reliable counters to sniper rifles, notably shotguns and Pulse Rifles, will make it as such that Snipers will have an overbearing map presence. Sniper rifles will need to have new mechanics added to compensate for that. Be it descoping when getting shot (you know, like this one unknown and irrelevant shooter does for decades now. I think they call it Halo), having innate sway and forcing you to hold your breath or something similar. Massively increased zoom sizes across the board and the removal of the 0.5x scopes could be another option as well. Nerfing PRs will have a net increase of TTK as a consequence. Giving snipers even more time to get a kill, even though they messed up. This gets worse, given the fact that PRs now will have significant damage drop off as well. Significant as in, finally noticeable. Auto Rifles will not be in a state to compete with Snipers given the numbers, and the only semi reliable (the rest was unusable) Handcannon to do so, the Hawkmoon, will get a huge nerf to the range and lucky bullets. I absolutely see nothing that would allow primaries to meaningfully compete with sniper rifles, when the next round of nerfs come in December. So I basically demand Bungie to be proactive and nerf sniper rifles or add mechanics in advance that will help to balance them, instead of waiting until March to nerf them into oblivion.

  • Snipers are balanced. Land your shots with primaries (especially ARs) and itll make the snipers flinch anyways. There are many weapons that can counter snipers, especially since the maps are small and loaded with objects blocking the line of sight. With a sniper you actually have to do sth for a kill. With shotties? Nope, not really. Im glad they get nerfed finally

      • I see this far too often... No, snipers don't need a re-balance. They don't. There are scout rifles as a reliable counter, if you're a competent player, and when MIDA comes back next month, it's going to be the most overused gun in the game. I'm going to make sure I have the legendary marks needed to buy it the day of the patch. But we're going to see a massive influx of high fire rate scouts, scouts with full auto, and pulse rifles will still be able to compete, unless they do what they did to autos, where 9% will actually equal out to something along the lines of 15%-20%, and at the closer ranges, you'll still be able to beat them out with hand cannons. Stop. Snipers are fine. This community needs to stop being so [b]fu[/b]cking pathetic.

        • This is one of the dumbest nerf requests I've seen so far. Snipers are perfectly fine. And for people complaining about aim assist, in year 1 snipers had almost 2x the amount of aim assist as they do now. A primary isn't really supposed to counter a special weapon anyway. Increasing the zoom on snipers makkes no sense either because the maps in Destiny are not really designed for long range combat.

          • Nah, the damage nerf is not as bad as many people think. Playing with a Nirwens Mercy, you'll still only need 3 bursts (with enough head shots). It just won't be as consistent as nowadays, which is fine, since pulse rifles are simply too strong right now. Jade rabbit / high impact scouts can still 3-shot and have great precision on bigger maps to counter snipers. With hand cannons getting a buff, I guess TLW will get its comeback for close to mid ranges, making it a good weapon to rush snipers.

            • Bump I agree people are outta control with snipers in destiny there's rarely any rushers and in fact they're gonna make it even difficult to rush with the shotgun nerfs....this game gotten homo. I'm not gonna do PvP until they fix that shit in december they're mad nuts

              • Use sniper against sniper! Use other guns on close range.We have the same situation now.If you are playing against a good sniper he will kill you if you are using sniper,pulse or hand cannon.Skill will always win.crying for nerf wont make you a better player.

                    • Great post. The reduction of counters to passive sniper play (first auto rifles and fusions, then hand cannons, blink and shotguns) has created a metagame where snipers are too strong- not because they're an issue in themselves, it's that overall damage at range for almost every primary class is too low. I'm glad someone is addressing this. Snipers are fine, and require a good amount of skill to consistently do well with. However other styles of play (such as aggressive blink shotgun or auto rifle/fusion) should be just as strong and viable.

                      • Hey your absolutely right. This game was perfect at launch, all these scrubs complained about shotguns because they couldn't run n gun and handle people sticking them and punching them in the face. So they whined and whined and now hand cannons and snipers have nearly taken this game into a campers paradise of stupidity. The huge so called skill curve "cough cough aim assist" is just bad. I personally enjoy sticking snipers and shooting them in the face with my scrubby shotgun especially now that shotguns are garbage. To put it bluntly snipers shoot you in the face and you die, if I use my chaperone at my light level of 309 I have to melee people to finish them off more often than not. I watch a critical shot of 169 yellow float up above my enemies head and there still not dead. Where's the balance in that. Shotguns need pumped back up they need to get rid of the scrubby aim assist across all weapons especially snipers. Take me back to launch please, screw it go back to beta. Game was a lot more fun at launch.

                                  • Are you special? Bungie specifically stated that all primaries apart from scout rifles which you failed to mention should be medium to close range weapons? You should not be able to outgun a sniper at long range with a hand cannon, that makes no sense it's not year 1 thorn fest. Pleb

                                      • Why would any weapon other than a scout rifle be able to compete with a sniper? There are clear ranges that weapons are meant to be effective in & sniper range was bullshit for pulse rifles & hand cannons. & a shotgun isn't a counter to a sniper, that's like saying a auto rifle is a counter to a scout, they're meant for 2 completely different play styles.
