So I'm ridiculously inconsistent in PvP and I know there are SO many variables to this game's PvP, but I need some help. I'll have a string of great games(one time I got an 8 k/d and carries the team) then I'll have a string of games where I can't break 1 k/d to save my life. Now, I also know k/d doesn't necessarily equate to a pvp mvp. But it DOES mean you're alive longer to help your team win(in any game mode).
Is there a PvP guide online to help me? I've seen a time to kill guide for weapons that helped out a lot. Which weapons generally ranked higher than others(in their optimal conditions). It helps me know which weapons are generally best to use.
Can anyone help me with tips on how to be a better PvPer? I would greatly appreciate thanks all in advance.
EDIT: I can't figure out how to link my account. I'm working on it. In the meantime:
I main a Titan, usually striker in PvP. I tend to run a pulse rifle. Red Death. I prefer snipers over shotguns but I'm not good with them. For heavy it's the smolder. I use Ruin Wings.
With my hunter, I run the same primary. Sniper. The Choleric Dragon. I stay as a Gunslinger. Sometimes I'll use Aclyophage Symbiote. Others I'll use don't touch me gauntlets.
EDIT 2: I can't get to everyone, but I'll try once I'm off of work. Thank you all for your replies! I played a couple games of rift and it already seems that some of the tips are working. I feel like I'm a but more in control. Even out shotgunned a shotgun rusher. I havnt tried sniping yet because the maps were all CQ. But I will as soon as I can. This was on my hunter with red death, shotgun, and Ruin Wake HMG.
EDIT 3: Genuinely can't understand why my characters aren't showing. It says I'm logged in and I can view my characters every time I look at side bar.
EDIT 4: Removed for resolution of issue.

1 ReplyEdited by Dooodley: 11/6/2015 12:56:24 AMPlay as if it was real life. In real life you wouldnt run around like a headless chicken and trade kills, like 95 % of the player base does. You would use the terrain to your advantage and only engage when it was favorable. Now, regardless of how careful you are you're still going to get -blam!-ed by your own team mates, or atleast in pugs. These people will flip the spawns and put you in other situations that you can't really plan for. They also have a tendency of giving you a false sense of security by one second being your wingman and in the next abandoning you, to run off for some unexplainable and irrational reason. The point is, trust no one and if you're in a pug; use them as meat shields. And yes, we can see your characters.

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE It looks like you haven't played too much PVP. Practice is all it takes. Learning tactics from advanced players on YouTube and twitch will help your mind skill. Then playing will improve your gun skill. After hundreds of hours you will arrive at where I am currently at. Trying to surpass the top 1% and ascend to the top .1%

Won my first battle yesterday. For me I needed a good pulse and maxed out your garden variety Lyudmilla D arms day gift. Level one reputation only so I had no roll choices. What a difference. Great impact with a bit of recoil. Anyway stay away from maps with lots of hiding spots and elevation. I get nailed on those maps because I don't know them. Lots of good advice here but you need a weapon that you're good with that fits the map. Like AR on big maps and open spaces are bad IMO.

I put up. A 7.5 in clash yesterday. Lead the team in kills as well. The key: play like a beech Hide and only engage when you are full health and have a way to escape. It seems cheesy but you will find that not only are you suddenly not dying all the time. You will also, even though you've been basically hiding the whole time, have the most kills.

2 Replies1) keep deaths to a minimum, especially in a competitive game mode such as trials. 2) acknowledge your opponent as you would yourself, never think you are better and face them carelessly. 3) always restrict your gunfights, never are you to face more than 2 opponents at a time because it is a high chance that you will lose the battle. Keep them to 1v1 4) the most important of all, support your teammates. You should always stick with a teammate in case you encounter an enemy. Trust me, 2 guns are better than 1. Keep these tips in mind and you'll do better in pvp. ;)

If you are in a situation were you are outgunned run first if possible, get back to your team for support. If you cannot run use your granade first and then try to get as many headshots as possible

Edited by ridict: 11/5/2015 1:42:24 PMI am in the same boat as you, string some really good games and then I lay down some total horsecrap the rest of the day. You KD is positive from what I looked at, but u haven't played much pvp. Just keep practicing!

Add me! Play some ToO with me this weekend. I can tell you what you could of done better if I see the way you play :)

1 ReplyEdited by Nerevar: 11/5/2015 7:22:11 AMEvery time you die try to think of something you could have done differently to not have died in that situation. Be it better positioning, better use of cover, better aim. Did you engage 2 people in a head on gun fight maybe that was stupid. Did you push a sniper that you knew was hardscping, well that was dumb Did you rush into a gunfight with low health instead of regenerating, heal first next time.. Did you try to melee the guy camping in the corner with a shotgun, don't do that next time. Bascially try to learn from every death. Don't repeat stupid mistakes over and over. Use your brain while playing. try to learn from better players. Play smarter. Be hard to kill, don't give the enemy team easy points. The whole getting better at killing and reacting in gunfights and stuff comes with more practice though. to be good you need to put a decent amount of time in. You only have around 5000 crucible kill, that's not a lot. Other than that if you play a titan just use max intellect and play sunbreaker, guaranteed kd boost right there. Oh and don't use ruin wings, they don't work in pvp. And please get a better heavy than the smolder, it is really bad. The raid machine gun is good, the fwc rocket launcher is good, truth/thunderlord are good. Also idk what sensitivity you are on but don't put it too high. Especially if you are sniping lower is usually better. 3-5 is good for most people, I wouldn't go higher than that if you are not an advanced player.

Edited by fenderbender: 11/5/2015 12:52:26 PMI used to suck til i watched some youtube. I learned to run away and that really can help you to avoid engagements that are bad such as 1v2 and get better 1v1 engagements
I main a Titan, usually striker
well there's your problem. Jokes aside, here are some of my tips (I'm not a great PvP'er, but on the matches I play well it's usually because I did one or more of the following): •Radar awareness. Duh. Know where your foes are, anticipate where they will be, don't get flanked or blindsided. Pay attention to vertical space as well. I find Hunters make use of verticality the most (attacking from above), and we all know how annoying Hunters are in Crucible. •Don't sprint around like a headless chicken. Have your weapon ready to fire at all times. Put damage on your enemies before they damage you. •Stick with teammates. "The strength of the wolf lies in the pack", as part of the description of one exotic armour piece reads. Don't rush into an engagement with no-one to back you up. •Analyze what you did wrong after every death. Don't repeat the same mistakes over and over. •Don't stay scoped in for too long, and don't camp in the same place for extended periods of time while sniping. Have your reticule aimed at head height. As I said, I'm not a great PvP'er, so my tips were really basic, but it's easy to forget them during the heat of battle.

2 RepliesI hate to say this but, play a ton of pvp. It really helps. I went 1 v 3 today since team quit but thanks to all the skirmish I play I held my own and won. Here you can work on how you deal with being surrounded or closing in on someone.

I will love Inferno trials. we need more of this most people will not get flawless so called the best players will struggle to get a flawless. it was surely pull out who's the strongest in the crucible and in PvP most people that play inferno are great players anyway. but not too many players can play without a radar and call himself still the best it's like taking someone that says they their best in the crucible and taking their radar away from them and seeing how they can play you be surprised how bad they really are. and how some average players would dominate the crucible without a radar. In this mode they should make a hard mode for trials and should give 315 or higher Tiret rewards for these high level players that still love playing trials after getting flawless. it should unlock the mode when you go to the lighthouse giving the higher tier players something to do after they've been coming flawless in trials

Im in the same boat. I suck at pvp bad but i find i play better with my clanmates. Even if its not a sweaty match and its just to have fun using a weapon ive always wanted to try and everyone is goofing around, just yacking to your mates makes a match very different.

2 RepliesSo looking at your stats... you can see that the maps you have the most play time on you perform better. So, map knowledge is important and you get it by playing. I believe Twilight Gap in the outlier here. So what you may want to do is record a game here and see what you are doing that you are not doing on other maps. You may have bad habit that this map exposes more than the others.

I can't be the only one who expected git gud scrub from all the pubescent children on the forums

Stick with a teammate or two. Don't charge in. Stay near cover always. Pop in and out. Memorize the maps. High ground is best. Use a gun with fast time to kill which is currently pulse rifles. Get the heavy ammo that gets less traffic/ is more defendable.
-
2 RepliesWhat I do is play pve. Less puberty, less ego, and generally less nerf hungry fags

Don't Die! Good luck Guardian!

Edited by AlmightyCatfish_: 11/4/2015 10:22:26 PMTry playing defensive, hang back, maybe pick up a sniper if you're good with them until you feel comfortable enough to start playing aggressive. Find weapons that work for you and gradually start placing yourself in riskier engagements. A tip that I picked up from one of TrueVanguard's videos, as simple as it may be, helped me quite a bit, is learn when to flee. Know when your opponent has the upper hand and when its time to just run away.

Pulse rifles are now very good, so use them. If ur not comfortable with snipers then shotty. Heavy doesnt matter they are both good. Strategy I would tell u because it helped me. Position, awareness and space control. Be mindful of where u are on the map and is it a strong defensive position and where is the enemy now and where will they spawn. This will be invaluable in most game types. Then when I can make educated guesses like that then how do u control the area u occupy, is there choke point for grenades and bullet rain or is it small for melee shotty. Also just a thought u can run! That is an option. The best strategy is not dying so if ur gonna lose a gunfight run and pick a new area to attack from. This will help ur team more than u think.
-
3 RepliesPlay lots of control, play the objective and patrol around the flags and let people come to you instead of rushing out to find them
-
6 Replies-be on PS3/4 Be a sunbreaker -use conspiracy theory with rockets and a pulse rifle -profit

you're not bad man, you have a positive KD which is good
