I'm with you, Bungie. But watch your step.

Bungie, I support your decision to add emotes to Destiny via micro transactions. I know there are plenty of others who do as well. But there is one thing that you, as the developer, need to do for this community. You need to promise that these transactions will never end up being pay to win. It is a fear that many in this community have. Those people need reassurance that they will never see a weapon for sale or any item attached to player performance or progression. Those players need a guarantee from you that you will not let this get out of hand. Those players and all other players need to be sure that this game will stay true to its main goal and values. If the micro transactions ever get out of hand as talked about above, this game will have lost its soul and many of the players who believe in it. Provide some form of solid, informative reply to the above, Bungie. Your community needs an answer. Leave your support, criticism or comments, guardians. Edit: Let's get this seen, everyone. This post and all the discussion happening below it is important for Bungie to see. Edit #2: I just wanted to make my personal stance on this subject clear. I genuinely believe that these microtransactions will only ever exist as cosmetic items. I don't believe they'll move to pay to win. I do, however, believe it is important that Bungie states their full intentions (for now and in the future) regarding these transactions.

  • I think they should move away from the model they have now and move to a subscription based model, with all future expansions paid for with the subscription fee, no extra charges. Maybe around $5 a month, same price globally, no more expensive for EU or Australia etc. Like they did with the taken king. No extra monies for anything else, emotes shaders or any other vanity items. No micro transactions for weapons or armour. That way no one gets left behind, the only time someone gets left behind is if they stop the subscription, in which case they're most likely leaving the game for good.

  • Microtransactions in and of themselves are not entirely evil. However, with them comes the tendency to milk them for all they're worth. If Bungie and Activision want this game to last another nine years, they have to avoid practices that generally turn players away from their game. Most gamers will not support a play-to-win model. Avoiding weapon, armor, and engram sales from Tess' shop is key. Purely cosmetic things that add some customization without actually touching stats and abilities? Perfectly fine. Sparrows are...iffy, especially if they have an extended role in the future; but paying for shaders, ships (assuming they have the same role throughout), emotes and even emblems would be something a lot of people would be willing to do, if only to let their Guardians feel more individualized, that wouldn't give them any advantage over people who don't buy these shaders, ships, emotes, or emblems. Microtransactions for resources would need to be carefully implemented. It should be a shortcut in that case; useful, but not necessary. Even then, because of the way resources can be traded in for faction rep, perhaps it shouldn't be implemented in the first place. It would devalue faction-specific items if someone could drop $100 on synths or weapons parts and bulk-trade until they got the item they wanted. ...then again, if the item is the same as one that could be received through normal gameplay and the $100-drop would be a shortcut, nothing more, maybe that isn't an issue. I mean, faction rewards are still RNG-based. If someone has crappy luck, they might not get the shader or ship they were hoping for, even after all that. I'm not sure. The fact remains, though: Anything that gives one player a definitive advantage over another because the former bought something via microtransaction should be avoided at all costs. Purely cosmetic items probably won't fall into this category. Armors and weapons definitely will. Resources are...iffy. Just...be careful, Bungie. Caveat: Under no circumstances should Legendary Marks be purchasable.

    • It better just stay at emotes. I've defended Bungie so much in the last year, but microtransactions are a threat to the community. I hate the slippery slope argument so I won't make it, maybe it won't get out of hand. However, if the shaders, ships, sparrows, emblems, etc become available via microtransactions... I don't think I'll be able to support Bungie anymore... and I'll hate that, but they'll be too far gone. Emotes are fine, but that's about it.

      • Deej has already tweeted previously or written on a site somewhere that eventually, it will be play to win, this is not his gaol! Merely the goal of the powers that be, ironically they also benefit from this. I've got a pic of the information that another member on this forum posted previously confirming this, which was given in confidence to the originator of the conversation.

        • Lol like they would ever do that. This game is about getting better gear or that one gun you want but can't get. If that is taken out of the equation then the whole game is basically dead.

          • Those of you applauding a cash shop in this game are ruining the gaming industry. You want to pay $2.99 for little extras that should be included in the game. They've made a fortune on Destiny up until this point and will continue to do so because spoiled kids and adults with nothing better to spend money on will support this decision. Cosmetic or not, this isn't a good thing. Hey remember when we got shaders in strike playlist or crucible? They're only purchasable now. Remember the random raid ship we used to get? Well the more creative flashy one is now only in cash shop. And it will slowly creep into more and more. Look at GTAV and see how much content Rockstar adds FOR FREE! (Although they do sell the shark cards, but everything is obtainable in game.) We need to fight choices like this, not agree to them. Like we did for the original idea of buying old content again to get Taken King. When we agree to these things Corporate Commander laughs and squeezes harder and harder to see how much they can get out. Don't forget the gaming industry is a multi billion dollar industry grossing more then the film industry and Destiny is among the leaders in revenue.

            • Anything cosmetic that someone wants to spend extra on is fine. Anything that impacts game play is unacceptable.

            • You do not need to ask anything from Bungie. It is something you have to understand. Let them define the policy they want. Buyers , us, will have the last word and condemn the policy by not buying the future products. It is so simple. No worries.Customers have power and as long as we buy using logic we have nothing to fear.

            • Cosmetic items are not game breaking. I really don't see what the problem is. Sound the alarm when Tess start's selling quest hints, Focused Light, and Legendary Marks in exchange for Silver.

                  • Bungie lost a great deal of credilblity with their fanbase this past year. This news so soon after a $40+ expansion drops doesn't help dispel people's skepticism.

Bump. Damn right. If it doesn't impact gameplay, it's fine. Emblems, shaders, emotes, maybe even haircuts and ships. But the second they announce that they will use silver to sell things like weapons and armor, currencies, etc.? Will be the worst thing that happened to Destiny. Pay to win is terrible.

                    • Seriously, bring out the vanity items in full. Would love to see full outfits that once equipped would take the place of all your armor (visuals only folks!), item/weapon skins (e.g. add bayonette, color weapon, add blood splatter to weapon or front of your sparrow), and maybe a personal space (call it our own apartment in the tower) where you can set up, purchase furniture, show trophies (plaques), bring women (JK), whatever. Emotes that actually allow you to sit on a chair/couch, or perform an action with an item (e.g. see a computer, equip and use certain emote to simulate interaction with it... would work something along the lines of how your ghost alerts you when you're in proximity of a scannable item). More custom standard type shaders, emotes (how about some farting and burping emotes in the future), emblems, sparrows... the list can go on and on. Speaking of emotes... once you create one that makes a noise you might want to give us the option to mute audible emotes (I can see it now, fart wars in the tower) Never make anything purchasable change actual game play in any way, or the guy/girl with the bigger wallet will sh*t on the one's who can't or will not purchase items.

                    • I don't care if they offer gear for cash as long as it's also available through gameplay. Warframe does this and it works very well.

                      • Agree, keep it cosmetic only, no problem. Start selling things that progress people through the game and/or give them an advantage then you will become a $500m version of Farmville!!!

                      • If they expand to Emblems, Shaders, Ships, ill get worried. Sparrows will be the last step and I will change my opinion on microtransactions. Sorry, but im not paying £30 for a sparrow. This isn't turning into ESO/WOW
