I know there’s a lot of "dead game" talk right now with Marathon being their main focus at the moment and the numerous other concerns with the player base numbers in D2, but honestly, that doesn't bother me. What does bother me is the thought of Bungie eventually pulling the plug on the servers and taking all the DLC, campaigns, and content we paid for go straight into the void with it.
D2 is my first Destiny game, and despite the game's ups and downs as I could probably agree with some of the downs, I still love it. The gunplay is unmatched compared to other shooters, the environments (like the Cosmodrome's beginning intro to the game and The Dreaming City) are breathtakingly memorable, and there is an insane amount of content. It would be a tragedy to lose all that money and memories we had spent over a decade of art and mechanics just because we can't connect to a proprietary server.
Look at franchises like Borderlands for instance. They have millions of RNG weapon rolls, bosses to beat, exploration, and tight gunplay, but it all works beautifully offline or via P2P. Destiny 2 already has everything it needs for an incredible offline experience.
If and when Bungie decides to move on fully, I really hope they consider a final "preservation" update and here is what I am suggesting to heavily consider for starters:
-Offline PVE Compatibility: Allow us to play story campaigns, exploration, and Vanguard Strikes solo without an internet connection.
-Dedicated or P2P Servers: Open up peer-to-peer or dedicated community hosting so multiplayer (both PVE and PVP) can stay alive.
-Automated Weekly Rotations: Hardcode some weekly or weekend events like double XP or loot drops to rotate automatically so the game feels fresh without needing live server maintenance.
Over a decade of time and work like this shouldn't be thrown away. It should be preserved for the people who still love to play it.

Preserve what’s left, sure. But so many campaigns, PvP maps, game modes, every seasonal story arc along with the 3 Episodes, are gone. I feel like there’s more removed from the game than what’s left.
