Bungie Sacrificed Their Niche

For a genre of game that has more fails than success. I understand they might be fatigued of Destiny (we are too) but that’s where you double down on creativity and add new life to your existing IP not go and make a new one while sacrificing your financial stability. Only 88k at launch. Arc Launched to over 100k. I feel so bad for the devs. Sony management takeover imminent.

  • You shouldn’t feel bad for the devs, because their arrogance is what got them there… As for a long time in Destiny they think they know what we want and what’s best for us… Words talk, numbers scream and this is not what the players want…

        • The Core at Bungie are gone. Why cant they do like they did with Halo? Gave the IP when they were focused on Destiny. Now clearly Their focus is on Marathon then they should give/sell the IP to a developer that cares.

          • Let’s be honest - Bungie hasn’t been doing the Destiny franchise justice since TWQ & the people that gave us Destiny’s/Bungie’s greatest moments no longer work at the studio. I think the best thing that can happen to the current devs working at Bungie and the Bungie IPs is for Sony to step in and give them to other studios. The people running Bungie currently don’t seem to have any interest in producing Destiny and they’re clearly disconnected from their customers.

            • Why feel bad for the devs? Any member of a workforce that's worth his/her salt should know when they are working on a loser which is due to fail, if they are professional enough. In which case, they should know that it's a temporary post, and they are using that job as a stepping stone until a better job comes their way.

            • Eh, they managed to kill the franchise so they can fail again. Arc 200k, slay the spire 210k, Marathon 50k already and sinking. Boring game, bad company, nothing new.

            • Marathon was never going to hit the numbers Bungie needed it to to keep Sony at bay for another year. The hole is too deep. The numbers being about as bad as everyone expected likely doesn't even matter for the future of Bungie as a result.

                  I genuinely don't get what they were smoking with Marathon. Destiny was already an "everything game" and could be expanded a lot more on than Marathon can. I think maybe Marathon would've disolved like those other projects if it wasn't for Arc Raiders blowing up, and then Bungie thinks they can slide in and take a slice of the pie with minimal effort because "They're Bungie". It was like Mcdonalds thinking they can just show up and beat out Pizza Hut or Dominos with their own pizza lol. Marathon looks, feels and plays like a more watered down version of Destiny. Less customisation but the gameplay is practically the same with remodeled Cabal enemies running around and many reused Destiny ability sets. Its like a patrol zone with PvP turned on and a 30 minute limit to run around. The quests seem very uninteresting and just expected of an extraction shooter and this is coming from Bungie that used to make HALO. You could effectively get the same experience in Destiny [b]almost[/b] by just imposing stuff on yourself like starting out using white gear and dropping into patrol for 30 minutes at a time doing patrol missions and if you die you delete all your stuff that you have in your inventory. Only thing missing would be the PvP and from what I've played in the tests and what I've watched its still the uninteresting incredibly fast TTK that makes the whole buildcrafting angle they tried marketing pointless lmao.

                • 88k for Marathon at launch ... but I'm wondering how many logged into D2 on March 5 ??? There was supposedly some global effort to beat Marathon numbers. Did we do it ?!
