Bungie, please remove commendation received as a requirement for earning guardian ranks. It's unfair to solo players like me, especially in pvp. Players are reluctant to vote for anyone other than friends, regardless of how poorly they play.
And in pve, many players will either give commendations only after they've received them; and sometimes not even then.
It may have seemed like a good idea on paper, but in reality, not so much.

1 ReplyAs a solo player, the player on my left gets the commendation on my left, the player on my right gets the commendation on my right. 👍

Edited by Ghost-Raven: 12/10/2023 11:23:12 PMPersonally I felt that commendations was wasted dev time that could’ve been used to bolster other areas of the game.
-
No. "Best dressed" is the only in-game voice of disapproval we're permitted / given....aside from T-bagging.
-
1 ReplyIt doesn’t help that the UI and latency of trying to scroll to the person who deserves a certain type of commendation. They want us to be deliberate and smart about how we play but their system doesn’t foster a “patient” environment.
-
It's a poor system that really doesn't say anything about yourself as a player. Especially when people give you the same commendations over and over again. I very rarely give out commendations, they are really just for the weekly engram from Hawthorne.
-
1 ReplyRemove commendations, guardian ranks, ghost shell projections. There’s more but I can’t be bothered listing them.
-
Whoever authorised this system should be fired. They probably got promoted. That’s how you waste resources on -blam!- that makes no difference to the players or at worst creates a negative experience. The best way to get them is to ask at the end of a raid for blue ones. Typically in a raid you are In comms. With that said it 100% needs to be removed from guardian rank requirements.

All it’s there for is so those who want to flex their egos or shame the ones who can’t do some of the quest steps. I’ve had players who where showing as 11 die more times than one who was a 6. There is no benefit to having this around. If any thing it makes those who are higher think less of some one lower. Just something bungie did to inflate more time play

1 ReplyIm sad they dont put in rewards or cosmetics or anything exciting for commendations honestly it feels stupid And too ego management
-
It's such a waste of time that I've never sent a single commendation. I barely get to the 400 mark by the end of the season and sometimes not even that if the season is exceptionally dull or uninteresting. My rank will always cap out at 7 because I also don't do those non-matchmade Story Missions they want to force you to rank up with. I'd be fine soloing those missions but the reward just isn't there so I don't bother. Guardian Rank is meaningless to me insofar as going beyond the arbitrary "this unlocks saved builds" section. It exists for unskilled people in clans to gatekeep more than they already do and nothing more.
-
1 ReplyI mean, I don't really know why you need any of the guardian ranks past just getting six so you can get all the perks that unlocks. I guess some people check guardian ranks when they're trying to do master raids, but generally those people aren't worth your time anyways, and if you're at the level where you're playing master raids it's probably not too hard to get those commendations either.
-
I play pvp solo. Always save my commendations for the teammates not getting any.
-
1 ReplyIt's literally the reason I couldn't care less about the entire system. Don't let "me-big-number-so-am-special" bother you. It ain't worth it. Be better than that shyt and enjoy the game.
-
1 ReplyThe fact you can require a minimum guardian rank in the in-game LFG says this whole commendation system was designed to make it easier for the elitists to gatekeep content Isn't a problem for me , since I don't have any intentions of joining a group , but it really shows hypocritical Bungie is ,Tells people to try raids , but installs a system that is hostile to new players That's why you missed sales by 45% Bungie, because you are so tone deaf and out of touch its not funny
-
1 Replythe idea is good on paper and in practice. the problem is Bungie are a group of 70 iq imbeciles that can't think or reason about anything before actually implementing it. like everything else in the game, it has a lot of potential that will never actually be met because the developers are all too incompetent to see it through.
-
7 RepliesThey should add negative ones Dead Weight At least you tried Blind Great personality Puts the I in team
-
2 RepliesDo you want them to remove everything that requires a group for guardian ranks? 😂
-
why? They work for some people, and not for others. They affect no game play, actually they mean nothing to many. To some they use it for recruiting to clans or fire teams. As a solo player, I give them, I do not care if I get any , It's just a number and does not affect me or my game play so why let it bother you so much?

Edited by Icon: 12/11/2023 8:37:36 AMIt’s not hard just start giving them out and don’t get discouraged if you give out 3 and don’t get one back. I’ve hit my commendations for rank 7 just need one more weekly 100k for the next rank. I find if you start giving them most of the time others will also in pvp but give them to the ppl who did work in the match.
-
3 RepliesEdited by BurningWidow: 12/9/2023 10:10:07 PMIs it fair...no. Do you get anything out of Guardian ranks? not anymore. I think they lowered the extra loadouts to 5. I could be wrong. I still use dim instead of the in game loadouts. Should this requirement be taken out? Yes.
-
4 RepliesThe only one that matters is best dressed my drip gotta be on point
-
I agree. It’s the one thing holding me back every season. But I have found recently, gambit for some reason people actually give them out. And sometimes you can get like 3-4 in one game. I know gambit sucks but you can slog it out and get the commendations and catalyst drops, kill two birds with one stone.
-
If you want to remove them fine but atleast leave best dressed so you can tell your allies they're setups cool
-
I agree.. I get to level 10 every season, but the commendations being rng based really stops your progress. The challenges are fine but people just do not give commendations.
-
IMO, they should just be about player interaction. Linking them to progression/collection is what makes them meaningless.
-
And while you're at it Bungie.. fix your damn netcode. It dont want to get stuck in matchmaking with other players, for an eternity, after, almost, every damn game, without the possibilty of actually canceling the matchmaking and my only option is to shut down the game from windows if I dont want to wait for rougly 10-15 minutes.
