Well I royally -blam!-ed up and put what I meant as the post body as a poll option. Do with it as you will; I’ll just disregard the votes in that “category”

1 ReplyCan you make another post asking how many people have read/understand the book of Job?
-
3 RepliesIf Satan is evil and punishes the bad people, and 2 negatives make a positive, wouldn’t that make him a good guy?
-
As someone who doesn’t take a lot of the OT literally, it could have just been a parable of some sorts.
-
1 ReplyNone of that stuff even happened

21 Replieshere is my thing. As the supreme creator of the universe. he is not bound by our rules.

5 RepliesAbsolutely, God is perfect of course and thus his ways are perfect. By the way, Satan wanted to make the bet with God (not the other way around) thinking he could break a truly righteous man of God, but obviously failed. When God allows Satan to tempt and persecute believers it is to test and strengthen our faith since it is God who we lean on even more so during those times. Remember though, this situation involving Job is reflective of what happens in a saved Christian's life, not just any unsaved person.

32 RepliesWhat if God tortured this man to show how obedient his slaves were? What if the book is full of lies to keep us ignorant and docile? What if God was the villain all along?

33 RepliesThe sky wizard isn't real

10 RepliesWhy would a god, the supposed definition of perfection need to prove a point to someone or something Satan. They just wouldn’t, let alone hurt someone who loved them. But it’s just another example of ancient men writing stories 🤷♂️

27 RepliesI'm a Christian, and we don't believe the story actually happened. It is a story borrowed from other religions for teaching. About the question, God is the one who decides right and wrong, so it was moral.
-
5 RepliesI don't know that particular story, but I usually consider Satan a victim, so I'm taking his side.
-
6 RepliesI wasn't aware that God made a bet with Satan.
-
1 ReplyHate to break it to you, but god isn't real, friend.

8 RepliesI'm just gonna quote game of thrones here.
If he commands you to burn children your lord is evil.
I don't know if God is real, but I do know that if he has done the things the bible says he has I'd rather spend eternity in Hell than 1 second in his Heaven. Jesus seemed alright though.

22 RepliesEdited by Uncanny_Vale: 10/14/2018 10:17:23 PMThe Christian get out of jail clause: Everything god does is by default “moral”. When we commit torture or genocide it’s immoral. When god does it, it’s automatically moral. At least that seems to be the argument I hear most often from believers.

Very clearly not.

2 RepliesBut satan is Lucifer which is a child of God, so there was no conversation, daddy's favorite child did a boo boo and was grounded for it.
-
5 RepliesIt isn’t regarded as a historical part of the Bible. It’s just a story to present a message.

52 RepliesEdited by Sportmanteau: 10/16/2018 8:38:45 PMAs a Christian myself, while I do believe a God exists, it doesn’t necessarily mean we believe he is perfect, he could certainly make mistakes. Early in the Old Testament, it tells the story of Noah and the Ark, where he constructs a very large boat to carry animals and humans on to keep safe from the great flood. It is said that the rainbow was created as a visual to promise to never cause another great flood. If the story is in fact true (which we have no way of knowing), then it does in fact provide evidence that God regrets things he has done. It’s certainly food for thought. Edit: I realized I didn’t actually answer your question, I don’t know if I have a fully formed belief on whether it was or not, however it certainly may not have been. Edit 2: For the love of God (ironic), this was stated as an answer to OP’s question, not as a way to bicker over whether I’m right or wrong. Nobody has to like my opinion, I just ask that it is respected.

As far as the story goes, omnipotent bro done goofed.

68 RepliesWould you set fire to somebody who had faith in you, to test their faith? Does that make you benevolent, or paranoid? If God knew all, then why test a man's faith in such a way as to torture him through his family?

The story of Job is to show people that even if you live a good life you arent free of bad things that happen in life. Job said that even if God slays him, he will still argue his (God's) way. Satan believed that if God took everything away from Job that it would turn him from God, in fact it did the opposite. Was Job angry about it, yes, but Job never lost his faith in God. God never answered Job as to why all these things happened to him. God's ways arent our ways. His wisdom is beyond anything we will ever reach. His love is everlasting and the choice to have faith in him is yours all you have to do is ask for him to come into your life. He doesnt force you, you are free to choose.

No. It makes the Christian god look like a malevolent psychopath. Regardless of whether or not people believed it actually happened. It’s a terrible story. If it would be considered terrible for a human to do to another human or living thing, it’s terrible for a god to do it to another living thing. Why should any gods get passes when it comes to morality? The answer is that they shouldn’t.

God didn't promise that there would be no storms in life, he promised a way out.
