Forsaken price

This week I got the new Forsaken trailer via the email. Watched it and it all looks very nice and makes me want to play it. But there's a few things staying my feet when it comes to actually buying it. First; the price. For an expansion pack I think the price is rather steep. Even the base edition still costs $ 40 - $ 50, with the Deluxe version topping at $ 80. Those are full game prices for an expansion! And yes, I know you get an annual pass with the more expensive versions but still. The last annual passes I purchased in Destiny were a bit of a letdown to be honest. Second; my biggest fear is, like with the older DLCs (this is the letdown), that we will blow through the whole story line in next to nothing. Although I am a good Crucible player I absolutely hate it! I'm all for the cinematics and exploring the extensive worlds out there! Just chuck me in a spaceship, send me off into space somewhere and I'm happy. I would like to see a lot more of that. Not a one evening of story based fun and that's it. Especially considering the hefty price. Third; that it will be all about the Raid. I only have one regular playing buddy and we haven't seen any of the older Raids yet! None. We just cannot seem to get enough players to do a Raid. And when you do they get all snobby; "you don't have this weapon" or "you don't have that armour piece" so we won't play with you. Yeah well, duh! How can we get this stuff if we never get to play the blam Raid! We did play all the D1 Raids though, when there were still players around on our list that hadn't said "good-bye" to Destiny. I play for fun during the evenings. As an adult with monthly bills, I simply cannot spend money like it is growing on trees in the back yard. So, if I am going to fork over a serious amount of money it had better be worth my while and not be a one-evening-of-fun stint. Those are the reasons I will be taking a waiting stance when it comes to rushing in and buying the new Forsaken.

  • I won’t buy it Everybody are exited like little kids for this expansion, but I have learnt from my mistakes and I will never preorder or buy something again from bungie. I’ll wait and see, and probably buy it when it ll cost 10€

    • We all know it'll be the same as before, hype trailer then just reskins and recycling content. They should still be ashamed of using missions as strikes, to me that's unacceptable for such a large Dev.

    • The Taken King was £40 UK, Forsaken is £35. If there's as much new content as TTK then it's a fair price. However, I do think that players should boycott preordering the annual pass in light of the short, recycled content of the year 1 expansions. When we know what's in it; if just one expansion is going to be the equivalent of Rise of Iron, then fair enough, I'm in. But in light of the damage done to the playerbase numbers with CoO and Warmind, any extra DLCs in the coming year should have been funded by Eververse Silver purchases. Titanfall 2 funded a whole year of DLCs solely by microtransactions. I was actually happy to buy a couple of cosmetic items myself for the first time ever knowing I was helping fund future content. I'm only now buying the year 1 expansion pass for D2, and only because it's currently the price of one expansion pack (buy one, get one free?) and finally returning to the game for the first time since December. Just in time for Iron Banner!

            • $80.00 for an expansion and season pass!? I haven't played or been on forums I a while. Wow that's a rip off. What did they have to jack up the price to make up for the people that have given up Destiny. The few players left have to keep them in business. I don't know when you see the expansion and season pass on sale/in the bargain bin for like fifteen, twenty bucks down the line paying eighty now is gonna seem Ludacris.

            • To each his/her own. I can appreciate not wanting to spend the money if you don't enjoy the game enough. I personally would have forked out the additional $ and bought the physical copy forsaken bundle (comes with the cayde statue). Almost pulled the trigger until I realized it doesn't include the new "season pass". I will stick with the forsaken/pass bundle. $80

              • I'm ok with the 40$ price for the base expansion. My problem is that I didnt purchase warmind...I game share it from a friend. Now I have no choice but to pay 20$ for my own copy of warmind and another 40 for Forsaken...60$ in total. I don't like being strong armed into purchasing something I'm already getting for free.

A lot of people are forgetting that at the turn of the previous console generation, there was a lot of realistic market analysis stating that the video game industry simply could not sustain itself with games maintaining a $60.00 price tag. The prediction was for games to, in not that long of a period, balloon to prices possibly even reaching doubling that. Increased team sizes, asset requirements, more expensive hardware and longer development times mean that a company genuinely has to invest more money into a game before it comes out as a product. This cost is of course going to eventually be passed on to the consumer. However the consumer market flatly rejected the idea of paying more for the game out of the gate. Enter DLCs! Rather than fight this battle with the consumer group, companies instead decided to become creative with how to pass this cost on. Like it or hate it, regardless of if you think it's necessary or not, it's a cost that's slowly been increasing over a period of years. As a consumer I'm not happy that games are a lot more expensive than it feels like they used to be, but covering inflation rates and the increased costs, I can't entirely blame companies alone for the price being driven up. The methods may not be popular, but there is no escaping it. Were you not paying high prices for add-on content, you'd likely be paying $100+ for a game on release day, without it being a "collector's edition."

                • No telling how it will look. Can't believe Bungie's hype. Mercury is so small they can't allow sparrows because you'd zip off the edge every time you hit the gas. Mars is smaller than in D1. Titan is tiny. I'm waiting until some reviews of actual game play hit Youtube. Also tired of paying full price for half a game since I don't raid and hate PvP. Probably wait until the Christmas sales - 2020 A.D.

                    • You should definitely wait until it’s out and then see if it’s worth buying. And the annual pass doesn’t seem like it’ll be as important so you can probably pass on that completely.

                    • Call of Duty does this literally every year for a game that has very little difference year to year and has had the same engine since CoD 4. People don't whine nearly as much there as they do here... Ill still get forsaken because I have the money and why not?

                    • I rarely ever have to talk myself into spending money on a new game, but when I do, I just remember that I once wiped my ass with $100 and flushed it, just to see what it felt like. The 100, not the emotion attached to losing $100....

                        • I've seen enough of the D1 and D2 games plus DLC's to know that Forsaken will be exactly like them. It'll have a very short story, probably taking less than 2 hours per guardian. The rest will be the "stuff" they've talked about, bounties, some quests mixed in, the supposedly revamped Crucible, and of course, the stupid raid. I guarantee you the Forsaken raid will be exactly like D2's, with more puzzles and jumping sections than actual killing. Sad too because I want the game to be done right. So far the track record would prove otherwise.

                          • Always on the lookout for seemingly cool, chill people to raid with. I have no time for bad attitudes in a video game. It keeps from raiding, which is a bummer. I'm on PS or I would say let's join up.

                          • Chances are, it will be like taken king. And that expansion was well worth the price since it completely changed the game and gave us fresh content for months. The downside of TTK was the awful drought around February through the next September. But the annual pass (if people like it or not) will hopefully keep that from happening again

I spent £85 on the game & pass & I got around 2,000 hours since D2 dropped last year. Yes, I have issues with the game, but, for the time played & enjoyment gotten from the game so far, it's a no brainer for me. Winter is on the way, and that's a good time for grind 😉
