Initial D2 feedback

First impression - this is a PvP beta. One strike is all PvE players get to try. Weapons - weaker. Strike boss was a bullet sponge. Ads kept coming. No mechanics, just run around the confined areas and shoot stuff. Power ammo drops were infrequent at best. In the time it took to run the strike I saw maybe one power crate drop. Supers - charge incredibly slow and they don't last long. I would say they are also weaker than D1 supers. In PvE it took a whole super's worth of dawnblade to bring down a yellowbar. In PvP it loaded just as the match was ending. What I see here is supers are tuned to give you one shot at it per PvP match, and they won't overpower a team. PvE gets what is left over after that adjustment. I am not pleased with what I saw. It's pretty, but initially it feels less than D1. As I'm not a huge PvP fan I don't see a lot here to hold my interest nor does what I see quell my fears this game is indeed built from the ground up around PvP. May be time to move on. Edit 1: Played some PvP tonight with my clan, a couple hours. Matches were mostly even, we won some, lost some, but it looks like it's not going to take long for the nerf cries to start. I'm not going to name the gun consistently dominating play, but one did quickly emerge. I did my usual mediocre play. I went with Titan striker, and though shoulder charge will not kill a full-health enemy, if they are nicked it will come close. I have to get used to the roaming nature of the super. In spite of forgetting about it being a multiple hit deal, I managed to wipe a team capping B. I think PvP players will adjust. I think those that stay will come to like it. But, as I said... I don't care for it. I ran a positive k/d, averaging 15 kills a match, but PvP in Destiny leaves me cold. That's just my opinion of course.

  • It's a beta so I'm hoping the launch version is better. But I liked the story and defending the tower enough that I wish I could play it over again. Combat felt slow and the street fighter feel of the arcstrider super didn't really impress me during gameplay at all. It felt like bladedancer with a stick and not much power. PvP is ponderously slow. Big deal. Never much cared for PvP in Destiny and this beta has done nothing to improve that for me. Cosplay COD. 4v4 sucks in my opinion. I'd prefer having the option of playing in brackets where you can have a 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 if you want. I'd think there would be enough varying team sizes to support that. But the longer TTK just draws out the pain. Strike I enjoyed the first time but I was also in a group where we all killed about the same amount and died little. So we one shotted the boss. Second run was lopsided toward one person (yes, me; I had more kills than the other 2 combined) so I left after the third wipe to try again and enjoyed another wipe fiesta after that. I assume that's normal and most of the wipes were in the last phase when the headless vex charge you. My partners couldn't figure out that meleeing them caused them to explode and kill them. Other than that and matching elemental damage there seemed to be little to figure out with this boss. I expected to be frustrated and challenged, not frustrated because my power weapon with hardly ever getting any ammo didn't seem to do much. Sunshot is fun as an exotic but the explosions seemed pretty confined and even when I did get a crowd it didn't seem to be much more than a smaller, less pleasing, less effective firefly effect. Bummed out. I drove home from work doing 80 to play it and put down the controller after 2 hours not really feeling like I got much out of it.

  • Well shit. I'll play the open beta, but it sounds like this game is going to be dead on arrival.

    • I finally got some time in yesterday after work, and I'm feeling a bit mixed about the experience. Background: I have played Destiny on and off since the Technical Alpha. The game has been through a lot of ups and downs, but I think Bungie has done a decent job of trying to learn from the experience. I was looking forward to the beta. Initial Thoughts: I'm with ironBill on this one. It very much feels like a PvP beta. One story mission and a strike that I haven't been able to clear don't quite sell me on the game, and I don't love PvP enough to play off-brand Counter-Strike. I wish we could have a bit of explorable map, like the Cosmodrome in the Destiny Beta. There's been so much talk about how good the maps will feel and how fun they will be to explore. I want a taste of that. Story Mission: This was the shining gem of the beta for me. Everything felt well paced, the gameplay felt good, and I wanted to spend more time on the falling Tower. I spent a lot of time wandering around, listening to the music and staring at the details in the environment. I also messed with the different weapon, armor, and skill choices, trying to fine tune what I could. I got to a good point with an SMG and Auto Rifle combo on the Defender Titan, and I can see myself running more of that in the main game. I also really liked the courtyard shootout with Commander Zavala, especially having other players come in before I instanced back out. It was a neat trick, and it added to the feeling that this was the same Tower I spent so much time in during D1. The story is off to an interesting start, and I look forward to more missions like this. Strike: Almost the inverse of the story, for me. I know the strike exists in a vacuum, due to this being a beta, but why am I here and what am I doing? Who knows? Having said this, I did like the scenery. This game looks quite nice, and I did take the time to stare at the world. I did like the interplay between my Ghost and Failsafe. I also liked the sequence where I fought across the open field to activate the jump to the drill. There was a lot going on, and the small sub-bosses were fun to fight. There was a good sense of scale that really sold me on this being an important objective to complete. I HATE THE BOSS OF THIS STRIKE. Outside of the floor falling out and the energy pulses in the second sequence, the lack of mechanics left this fight feeling boring and aggravating, by turns. Having the boss health indicate a phase change is good, but it's not so good when I have to pour all my ammo into the boss, and then run around hoping that an ammo brick drops so that I can go back to barely hurting the boss, only to maybe have the next phase start. As I mentioned, there is a lack of interesting mechanics in this fight. The floor pulse section is rough, due to the speed at which it does damage, and the hint your Ghost gives you about an energy change doesn't really clue you into what's going to happen. When you get to the bottom, it becomes non-stop adds and more trying to dodge, while the boss tries to stomp you into the hard kill boundary. Unlike some of the better D1 strikes, I felt myself spending way too much time either being bored while plinking the boss, or angry that I was covered in far too many Vex. Given the choice, I would never run this strike willingly. Final Thoughts: I'm going to make myself play PvP, because it's not terribly fair to not give it a chance to impress me. Also, because Bungie has seen fit to make PvP 2/3 of my beta choice. I wish we had gotten more new content from this. I can see some real promise here, and I want it to deliver. I'm just not sure the beta is showing me that it will.

    • As a PvE player, the beta has left me feeling slightly concerned. The overall gunplay felt just as great as it always has, but the pretty substantial nerf to ability cooldowns made the PvE gameplay feel like a shadow of what it was in D1. Coming from D1 I felt like I had lost my powers even before I actually lose them. I just felt like a dude with a gun. The class abilities felt pretty fun though, I gotta say. :)

    • i agree with wit a lot with what is said here when I first bought destiny I told I was getting a pve game with a pvp option but it seems to wrapped up in pvp this is why I was hopping for a separation from the two. to honest I have never seen a good game where the two where on the same page it doesn't seem to work. I hade hoped they would have learned there lesson but the beta makes me feel like they didn't

    • I have to stress although this is the Beta and things can change but my overwhelming concern lays with the actual killing of opposing guardians in crucible. Every kill just feels lack lustre, go try it! Go into control get a kill and that split second you obliterate them, there is no sense of glory (in a sound effect) I hope other people feel the same When I get those kills in a game I want to feel empowered every time, I don't want to be asking "was that you? Or did I get the kill" I'm underwhelmed sorry! Other than that, it's a great Beta

      • Cosmo's cut and paste response (nothing's changed), is a pretty clear indicator that yet once again we the player base are being blown off. It almost seems like they took all of our tricks and cheese strategies from D1 and designed D2 to work against all of them. Bungie sure flipped the script on us.

        • My Feedback Background D1 Alpha, Beta and Day 1 Guardian My thoughts : Things I liked Dog/Skag enemys the twin sword Cabal guys Sassy Girl AI that argues with ghost Arcstaffing feels good Shield Weilding feels great The fact you can pick any type of gun for your kinetic or element gun how strong Striker class feels in general interesting strike which takes a good chunk of time less whoever gets super 1st wins in pvp Things I disliked doesn't look any different to destiny one doesn't feel any different hardly any heavy especially when you may need the sniper on a mission. feels like an expansion with a slightly different HUD and UI Grenades feel weak Shoulder Charge/Throwing knife nerfed into the ground. pvp focused Grenade Launchers are really weak in the limited use ive had, either doing little or 0 damage unless you hit a direct hit, Bullet Sponge boss in strike that doesn't really need any tactics except 1 guy kill adds and hide from his beam attack

        • After 2 hours of play. Homecoming- This mission needs a name change since it's not like we ever left the Tower to begin with, it doesn't feel like a homecoming but rather an invasion, which is what it is so please change the name. Anyway the mission isn't bad and the one issue I had was the sub boss was a sponge, we are forced to fight with just bad weapons (more on that later) that fire too fast but with a cone wide enough to fit a truck. But then the boss has almost AoE attacks while we can barely get close enough without losing 3/4 of the life bar. Besides that everything was fine. Crucible- Now I don't find any big issue other than ending up against people with shotguns while you are left with starter weapons (this was after doing the strike). I can't say it's unbalanced but smaller groups make the current map an issue for solo players, turning a corner on your own means death as you are left facing 4 enemies on your own. I understand PVP is about teamwork, but you also need to understand not everyone has a group to play with all the time. Lastly Power Ammo needs to be back to group, I don't know why no one has complained about this but it's honestly a bad mechanic, specially with so many weapons needing the ammo now. Strike- It really felt too long for all the wrong reasons, we're back to making content long by only adding open spaces without anything to fill them. Boss is your typical bullet sponge, and with adds coming up every 30 seconds you spend more time running around wasting bullets on them than actually dealing with the boss. I do like the changing area mechanic, but that's pretty much all he has, nothing he does it's really new or impressive. Weapons/drops/rewards- Weapons are absolute shit in PVE, there's no other way to put it. Every single weapon did the same damage with maybe a digit or two of difference, yet with different abilities and elements. I was only able to use the Grenade Launcher which again felt like shit, and the Fusion rifle which was the only respectable weapon. Also Power ammo drops maybe once per boss or sub boss, do not expect to find any from adds. Lastly after 2 PVP matches and 3 strike runs I get the same gear and weapons I already had, the drop system is back to being the horrible RNG shit from Destiny 1. Powers- Lastly what the hell happened to them?. Supers are weak at best, grenades are somewhat good but take too long to recharge. In PVP melee is useless and in PVE nearly the same. Honestly unless you are keeping something hidden I really don't see an advantage from having such limited trees. As someone said above this is PVP taking over, we told you that is not what we want yet you keep pushing that mode into PVE, stop doing that and make PVE it's own system with its own balance that it's it reliant on pvp. Oh and if this is all we're getting for the Beta, sorry but it's not worth the wait and really don't think you'll actually balance anything based on this, which means the game will come out as is which is just shit, and we'll have to wait months until something is done.

I think with a strike and no actual content like the first beta I can only HOPE this is a poor representation of what is to come. You might have a story now and you got a great UI and the strike is amazing but what people wanted to see Bungie fixing the issues they had and seriously I cannot see too many casual/story fans enjoying the game which seemed so focused on PvP than PVE. If it wasn't for my friend I'd never have bought this based off of the Beta alone. I hope many are still reserved for this 'large dlc expansion' . I am for one not impressed hardly at all after hearing so many people from different places came into fix the previous mess. Least it looks to not be a Andromeda mess of a game. That's good right? I mean Bungie had other people working on it so least it should be as good as Taken King. Bungie = George Lucas. Great initial story but can't direct worth spit. Oh PS, props for pointing out early on the game will be incomplete when it comes out. we do appreciate the transparency for all of our gripes. =)

            • Started a new topic: Mostly liked beta..except

            • So thanks to everyone for already stating what need to be said. I agree with most of it. I've played the strike 6 times with all 6 subclasses and yes the recharge rates are pretty slow, the supers seem to have cool animations but are underwhelming, and all the legendary weapons we've been using make me already miss my "stuff" from D1. And on that note about stuff... why does Cayde get to still have his Ace of Spades when he clearly said all of his stuff was gone? And why the hell does Shaxx get to have his f%~*^€g raze lighter? Just all up on his back not doing anything useful except slapping all of us in the face because we can't use it anymore (I know there are new swords coming but they will most likely be in the power ammo slot and well so much for having a sniper going at the same time) It's being said " It's a new game..." but it really isn't is it? Same guardians from D1 and a new storyline from after ROI right? Then why are the supers different? Why are the jumps and character movement different? Why are the weapons and how they are used different? So I am trying hard to have or keep an open mind, I want this game to be awesome (could argue need it to be) and I want to to succeed, but ladies and gents it just doesn't seem fun. Now I know what we've been given is hopefully just a small glimpse of the full game and hopefully all the good stuff is coming. Also want to add being shot around/ through walls is still a thing, melee trading is still a thing, warlock and hunter melee's are still better than titans, being removed from your menu while in your menu is still a thing. And (bare with me, almost finished) why do warlocks get a twilight animation and not the titans? And why is there a shoulder charge cool down? And I think the warlock ship is pretty ugly. I will say it was nice if them to include a PS4 pro patch with the beta and the game looks really really good. Hope everyone has a good day.

              • Haven't played the beta yet (xbox) but from what I've read so far, I'm actually encouraged. PvP being tilted towards primaries and supers taking ages to charge doesn't sound too bad to me. What really grinded my gear in D1 was getting super killed 4 or 5 times in a row. Spawn, hammer, spawn, jazz hands, spawn, hammer again, spawn, golden gun... Rinse and repeat over and over. As for primaries taking over, I hate shotties with a passion and I can't snipe for crap. I also hear hand cannons are useless now? Even better! I'm more of a PvE player anyway but from what I hear from the PvP side of things, it sounds like everything is coming up Milhouse.

                • I played PvE side of beta, it was fun, handcannons felt great ! Missed using them. The sole complaimt i have is that enemy AI has not improved, simply stand behind a rock and shoot the bad guys. Now I know that you can choose to play more aggressively, as I did, but knowing that it could be so easy takes away from the experience for me. Idk, I will wait till full game and see. I just like my games to be challenging, hope it will be.

(d1 would have to wait for second menu to pop up obscuring your view, wasn't the best in a raid) Having all 4 emotes on directional pad able to be swapped with other emotes. (currently only able to asign 1 in d1).

                • Hey guys, - Radar on PvP mode works incorrectly. Enemy already behind me and radar show that it is so far. - Damage appears later, PvE, after mobs already died - Slow matchmaking, You guys need to pay attention to this issue. It's made me and friends be so nervous. - (O, O) ability's cooldown in Hunter sooooo long. - Heavy ammo became weak and can not damage by one shot or multiple kill Thank you for the great experience. Overall impression is TOP.
