No. I would love them to but if they haven't done it so far they aren't going to ever do it.

4 RepliesSony, Microsoft, and Valve all do their player identities differently. Valve identifies players by a player URL which never changes, is unique, and is made when you make your account. This means you can change your name freely and have duplicates without an issue because the URL is what is different between each player. Sony identifies their players by their PSN ID which is unique to each player. This means that you cannot change it because if you did then account authentication would change. Microsoft identifies their players by their Microsoft account. This is an email account that basically controls anything Microsoft. On Xbox, your gamertag ID is just a nick-name for your email account on Xbox. This means players can change their gamertag ID but their Microsoft account email that authenticates the account cannot change. Microsoft makes players charge to change their gamertag to prevent constant changing. Sony could link a PSN or PlayStation account and use that for authentication but that would be a HUGE change. Unfortunately I don't see it happening because of how big that change to their whole system would have to be.

They still haven't allowed that as an option? Da hell sony.

Edited by Stormtroupe: 7/25/2016 1:33:29 PMI'm hoping they'll address it during this coming PSX. My PSN id is my sisters name from when we made an account when we first got a ps3. Now people think i'm a catfish.

2 RepliesI'd never use it myself just like I never used it on the xbox(got the names I wanted on both) but it really should be an option.
-
2 RepliesJust have a bunch of people report your name and they will allow a name change.
-
I hope so, and I think eventually they will implement it. But god knows how long we'd have to wait. I don't -blam!-ing understand why it's not a feature yet. It's one of the most requested features for Playstation and they could make money with it. This is the only thing I hate about PS.

2 RepliesHopefully, being perma-banned for a "offensive" username is BS.

2 RepliesAt least just introduce a "nickname" so you can change your appearance name any time but you'll still always be Xx_BigDoucheBallSack69_xX or whatever
-
2 Repliesyou would figure, Sony would realize they could charge you for this (like ps+) they would implement it immediately.
-
2 RepliesI remember reading about a Sony executive addressing this issue in an interview. He claimed if this was allowed, it would likely lead to various instances of fraud. I personally beg to differ as on Xbox they allow name changes, even forced ones if need be and I haven't heard much in terms of negativity with this feature.

4 RepliesI can change my name :)

2 RepliesApparently people in Japan can change their psn

We use to be able to on ps3 but they took that away

I can't see it happening anytime soon. I recently switched to a new profile, with a catchy ID. I still use my original profile for games that I've spent a bit of time on.

3 RepliesIt's a name, nothing about it matters unless you put something like xXminecraftcreeper2005
