So today's Bungie Weekly Update 3/26/15 shows that Next-Gen Console owners are getting the shaft due to PS3/360.
Should HoW be the cut-off for Old Gen?
I understand that not everyone can afford a new console, but maybe more of them could if they didn't keep buying every new game that comes out. Save those Ducketts for a little bit instead of buying new Old Gen games, and get a new system. IMHO.
Many will disagree, I understand that, and will collect your tears to cool my frustration today. I was really looking forward to this week's update, but I was furious in 3.2.1...
Edit 1: I have thought that it was cool that they were supporting Old Generation Consoles until today, with this big admission by Bungie.
For everyone who wishes that areas were bigger, I think this points to the reason they aren't. How much else was cut from the game, not to save it for DLC, but because they had to stay within the limitations of the Old-Gen Systems?
Edit 2: I think the only things officially announced have been Destiny, The Dark Below, and House of Wolves so if I'm right about that... Why couldn't they cut it off there, and move forward with Next-Gen starting with Comet?
Edit 3: Clarification for people who misunderstood. HoW would include Old-Gen too. Comet forward would be Next-Gen ONLY.
Edit 4: Obviously from them disabling Item Comparison on Old-Gen they could give New Systems more, and people on the old systems would get it when they upgrade. How about that?
Edit 5: Good discussion guys. Thank you to those who engaged without flaming. I agree they should continue to support Last-Gen. I do wish they would make some additional capabilities available to Next-Gen that would be available to everyone else as they are able to upgrade.
I'm still not sure why they couldn't go with load on demand Pagination. It wouldn't need to remain held in memory, and everyone would be happy. Thanks again.

The one thing the "blamers" seem to forget is Destiny began development OVER SIX YEARS AGO. There was no 4 or One then. Last gen was the only generation around. Were they developing a game for consoles that didn't exsist? No. The only thing that held Destiny back is and always will be Bungie.
-
When destiny 2 comes out. Next gen. All destiny content must be released on 360/PS3
-
Its to late, the damage is done, for a game to be built to play at its best it has to be started with building it for current gen, otherwise it is limited from the start.

29 RepliesThis is not last gens fault. Bungie can't make a proper inventory system. They're using a system that procedurally generates our weapons. This means that when you close your vault or inventory your weapons are no longer there, the game then creates them when you open it back up. This is the type of system you see in Halo or CoD, NOT an MMO or RPG. Besides, blaming the hardware is the oldest excuse in the book. All it comes down to is Bungie's laziness. They could have just as easily added a new page instead of more slots. The same reason we have so much lag and so many error codes. Bungie uses p2p servers. These are the kind of servers you find in Halo or CoD, not an MMO. Just like with vault space, it's Bungie's laziness or inability to make stable and dedicated servers. It has nothing to do with last gen consoles. The only thing that would have changed if they added more is that it would have been slower. This is purely Bungie's incompetence, quit blaming last gen consoles.

5 RepliesEdited by BeachsideZeus: 4/2/2015 4:26:51 PMI wouldn't find it fair because if you bought a game on 360/PS3 then when comet comes out the 360/PS3 players will be stuck with only 2 expansions. I don't think old gen players should have paid for a game that only gave them 2 expansions and then all the others go to new gen. I think Destiny 2 should be a Next-gen only game but no not Destiny

9 RepliesThe reality here is that 300-400 dollars holds different value for different people. I just don't like that game developers won't put graphics to full potential for current gen because they are trying to accommodate last gen. People that can afford nicer things shouldn't be penalized because of others who can't. Plain and simple
-
8 RepliesIs it really that hard to afford a ps4? Get your ass to work. Save like 100 dollars a month and you can have one too.
-
Don't know about ps3 but 360's been around for over 10 years! Enough said
-
5 RepliesTake a look at a previous gen game called Skyrim, and tell me they really pushed the limits of older consoles. The inventory contained numerous items and actually showed the item not just a 2d picture of it that is not even accurate to the actual look of the item. Btw, Skyrim was released in 2011. I don't think previous gen consoles are truly holding back next gen console experiences.
-
Destiny should have been next gen only, period! Same with Titanfall!
-
If we keep holding onto the strings of the past, our dreams of the future will slip away

Activision

You have no idea what you're talking about.
-
Umm I have a PS3 and I can't play with friends on PS4 so i'm not seeing how the 3/360 consoles are holding the 4/one back.
-
3 RepliesWhy? Their would be no point, it's not like they would make substantial changes to their sandbox.
-
11 RepliesWell xbox360 servers are being shut down at the end of 2015/ start of 2016 don't know about ps3 though
-
It will happen as soon as it can, dude. Believe that Bungie is dying for the opportunity to flex their muscles without worrying about 10 year old memory restraints. Then... Then, the fun really begins.
-
1 ReplyMy apologies for the flaming arguments

Destiny literally looks so much better on next gen. As far as the inventory goes, I didn't even think we needed more inventory. We only needed more vault space. You don't need to carry around more than 3-5 guns on one type at a time and that gives plenty of room for engrams. And materials? Do you really need to carry around all those telemetries? I really just think Bungie made a bad game that for some reason they can't update efficiently enough.
-
2 RepliesI get the frustration but you are asking a large corporation to ignore 40mil potential sales. Thinking they would even consider it is kind of dumb.
-
Game is clearly being held back! Look how long we had to wait for vault space so the old systems could hack it.
-
I do wish destiny wasnt on last gen...but its not their fault it was offered there. Destiny 2 and onward needs to be next gen only
-
6 RepliesI'm pretty sure that Destiny 2 is already confirmed (via legal docs between the Activision/Bungie partnership) to be released on both Gens.
-
16 RepliesPlease tell me how old gen are holding next gen back? This never came up until the most recent update. If people actually sat and used their brains for once they would see that there are two things overlooked and that they are retards. Bungie said that this vault update is small fix and later it will be something more. Go back and read the update as it says this. So everyone can suck a dick who didn't actually read the update. Second, If memory usage is an issue create a drop down menu for each slot! This isn't -blam!-ing hard For Bungie. having more squares on screen looks shit. Everyone criticising old gen go -blam!- yourselves.
-
Doubt they will cut off old gen until "Destiny 2" release. Which is totally fair.
