The Pro was leaked back in February or something. It definitely didn't come out of nowhere.
Sony was supposed to officially announce it at E3 but tucked their tail when they found out Microsoft was going to announce the much more powerful Scorpio. All people would've talked about was how weak the Pro would be if they had announced it when they originally planned.
PS will put something out more powerful than the Scorpio in two or three years, and then Microsoft will do the same.
Traditional console generations are dead. Now that the console architecture is so similar to PC, it's much easier and cheaper to do so.
Also, neither Microsoft nor Sony are going anywhere unless someone new enters the console market and edges them out. There's plenty of room for the big two.
And Microsoft absolutely needs the Xbox. There's more money in it than just the face value console sales. It's used as a platform to supplement Windows 10 and push the Microsoft brand. In a market that's seeing people leave Windows for OSX and Linux in droves, the Xbox brand is huge for maintaining the Microsoft status quo as the quintessential software provider.
tl;dr
Nothing you said makes much sense at all in reality.

One pretty reliable source says the PS5 may drop 2nd Half of 2018

I think what he meant by 'Microsoft doesn't need Xbox' is that Microsoft doesn't rely on Xbox nearly as much as Sony does. He worded it in a way that was incorrect but the idea was correct.

Yeah, I get that. I still think people underestimate the value that Xbox has to Microsoft. MS isn't afraid to dump a failing department; Zune, for example. But Xbox plays a huge role in keeping Microsoft as a software and tech giant in the home at the forefront of the consumers mind. Xbox is worth far more than the spreadsheets would present at face value.

It's a shame that the zune failed. The HD was really nice. It just didn't compare to the iPhone and ipod touch though. Screen was smaller and didn't have even close as many apps/games as Apple.

Rumours of it was leaked. It was officially presented until 3 weeks ago. We all expect to launch along side with the next Xbox.

Edited by easydoesitEZ: 9/17/2016 12:09:30 AMNo, we didn't. It's been rumored to release this year all along. It was never going to release next year. Again, it's very well known that it was supposed to be announced at E3. If you follow gaming news at all you'd know this. They delayed the announcement so that it wouldn't be compared to the Scorpio as much. It was a 100% PR move.
