Bungie,
Another entry in my series of suggestions/ideas for Destiny 2.
I have thought about all the complaints about loot and players needing something to chase. One angle your team can approach this is in world drops. I will go over how these drops will work, how to acquire them and how they can incentivize grinding again.
Where We Are
Currently, many weapons are getting deleted if they are not T5 or did not come with X origin perk. While I will not go over already treaded ground (you know why this is), I can say part of the answer is within the problem: the origin perk. We can expand on this but must do so in a way that does not feel like you have to force this deletion. Some players will still do it. More power to them. Others may settle or use something close until the perfect item drops. This is what we want.
Next, we do not have enough items to even chase. While Renegades did give us a healthy amount of weapons, it is nowhere near enough. The last time there was a lightweight shotgun in the energy slot was from a raid. Not a piece of content we all can do. Before that, season 24. Same for an adaptive frame sniper in the kinetic slot (season 24). There are many examples of this.
What Can We Do
We can use world drops to refresh the weapon grind again. I will outline how this will work. Now, your team will have to let me know if the coding cannot support this suggestion. This is the key factor: everything is random. I will explain.
When an engram drops and it is a world drop the first decision made is what archetype is it. Is it a shotgun, hand cannon, sword, what? Once that is decided, we move on to the next layer. If it is a hand cannon, is it a 140, 180, two-burst, etc.? Next, we decide its damage type. Is it stasis, arc, kinetic? Now we do perks but this is where the grind will get more enticing. The perk pool will be massive. Basically any perk that a weapon can have, this item could roll with (barring obvious perks that make no sense, like Bipod or Cold Steel). The tier of the weapon is determined by the difficulty of the activity, naturally.
Let's go through an example. I am running a solo op on Master difficulty. I killed an acolyte and it dropped a T3 engram. Behind the scenes, the game goes through the flow chart. What is the archetype? Fusion Rifle. What is the subfamily? Aggressive burst. What is the energy? Solar. The game provides the normal randomness for traits in all columns with the change that columns 3 and 4 have massive pools. Both columns have the same pool, while protection against redundancy (no Frenzy is both columns, for example). This is where we can have fun. With these huge pools, a very unique weapon can be created. We could have this solar aggressive fusion rifle roll with One-Two Punch and Trench Barrel. A kinetic 120 hand cannon with Box Breathing. A precision rocket launcher with Subsistence. A heavy grenade launcher with Discord. A lightweight bow with Beacon Rounds. Also, we randomize the foundry which gives randomness to origin perks. Furthermore, we can allow the weapon to drop fully masterworked. When this happens, it will come with a unique origin trait, similar to the current Accelerated Assault.
How Can We Make It Happen
Another post I have explains a new forever activity where only these items drop from it. We can also create something similar to the Tome of Want. The player can narrow the world drops to just hand cannons. Maybe further narrow it to stasis hand cannons or just 180s. From there, the randomness is the ruler, thereby promoting grinding. The slots of this new Tome will be one-time use, so a player will have to play more to gain the "scriptures" to enable the narrowing of the drop rolls. These can be obtained from a vendor, dismantling weapons (dismantling a 140 arc sniper may give a sniper "scripture") or as world drops.
What Are The Benefits
This system can allow for weapon combinations to be always available no matter the content/phase/saga. However, it will not prevent the creation of more curated weapons that are designed solely for expansions/locations/activities. You would not stop making weapons for the next dungeon. This system would promote weapon grinding, which should be one of the main reasons anyone plays Destiny. Grinding means more play time, naturally.
Potential Pitfalls
So there are a few items that need to be ironed out if this were to be adopted. First: weapon models. How will the game reconcile this? From my layman's perspective, older models can be brought out of retirement. Not ones that were from specific sources, like raids or seasons but older world drops. Maybe even reuse some models from locations that have been removed from the game, like Go Figure or Jack King Queen 3.
However, there is another item that I think can create more engagement and fun for players: weapon transmog. We apply the same system from armor to legendary weapons. Say I had, in this new world loot system, a strand auto rifle that dropped with the model of BreyTech Winter Wolf. But I don't like that model. I can transmog it into another world drop auto rifle, like Halfdan-D. We can still apply shaders, of course.
Second pitfall: sound effects. This one is not so solid as I do not know if a world drop weapon's sound is as important as a season weapon or an exotic. You could use the same sound across the board for all 600 RPM auto rifles. However, this could be another avenue for player customization. We could allow for "sound transmog". I could keep the BrayTech Winter Wolf model but socket in a "sound package" to the weapon to sound like Giver's Blessing.
Last pitfall that I can see is visual effects, like muzzle flash, projectile color, etc. Only thing I could come up with here would be to create generic effects, which I believe you have, and tweak them to be for any energy type and RPM (which you may already be able to do).
Players will be given the chance to grind for a 120 RPM hand cannon with Box Breathing, have a model of Crisis Inverted and sound like Eyasluna and have a Veist origin trait. Something this unique lends itself to the player in that they can stand out. "No one has this gun but me."

PS: I was banned for "hate speech" when I posted last. My posts were not even read. I am guessing my posts will have to be spread out.

Great ideas but, I think instead of focusing this much on weapons will cause another issue. Such as: Destiny isnt big enough to fit all these new weapons Or: Here's a farming route because we have so little space Honestly I think ( and you had amazing ideas) instead of focusing on weapons focus on things like patrol zones
