I'd like a decent Adamantine, but no way in hell I'm gonna farm for one. Ditto for the LMG, sniper, and Psychopimp.
I used to spend lots of time farming red borders and crafting materials, and getting a zillion kills to level crafted weapons up. I crafted every weapon, every season.
WITHOUT CRAFTING, I SPEND ZERO TIME FARMING.
Seriously, if a weapon has 2 of 8 possible options available in columns 1 & 2, 1 of 7 options in columns 3 & 4, and 1 of 4 masterwork options, that's a 1 in 3,136 chance of getting a perfect roll.
No f'n' way I'm gonna waste time chasing that.
Even getting a 3/5 roll is about 1 in 200. Nope, not chasing that. I might, eventually, stumble into a 3/5 roll that I'll keep, but I'm not gonna play a minute longer than I otherwise would have, and I'm not going to play any activity I otherwise wouldn't, in pursuit of such low odds.
Ironically, eliminating crafting has had the opposite effect that Bungie was praying for.
Crafting didn't reduce play time. It increased it while people pursued red borders and materials, and more weapons, and then spent far more time playing other activities with their new toys.
Bungie, if crafting was so bad, if it reduced play time because people weren't farming as much, why did people spend so much more time playing when it was available?

18 RepliesI’d wager the complaints about crafting were mainly from people that don’t get shafted by rng. It’s sad and pathetic to take away crafting because you don’t want everyone to have a chance at getting good weapons.

Crafting is good for Guardians at every level . Casuals have an opportunity to grind a blueprint and have something "special" Mid tier players like Destiny dads can spend their time grinding out blueprints and fill their toolbox. Meanwhile, the group that seems to have the majority opposition, The Hard Core Destiny players are able to unlock these weapons and get so deep into buildcraft that the casual doesn't recognize it as the same game. So why all the hate for crafting everyone wins...

2 RepliesThe amount of people downvoting this post is crazy. Did people forget the RNG perk distribution bug is still a thing?

4 RepliesEdited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 2/17/2025 5:20:58 PMI went from chasing all weapons for patterns to chasing like 3 weapons for the entire season. I went from experimenting with perk combos and even whole weapons I otherwise wouldn’t bother with to just not really playing at all during down time. Crafting facilitates build crafting. Something for which the game is SO much better for. Lack of meaningful agency and bad luck protection through rigid RNG is like the antithesis of buildcrafting. Say what you will but the box was opened. Putting it back in is a massive mistake. It just needed balancing. We can 100% absolutely have it both ways. We can 100% absolutely have any and every weapon in the game be both craftable and it’s random drops enhanceable in a balanced way in which neither version of any weapon needs to be lesser. People want options. Please understand this and give it to us. The tiered system means nothing to me if there isn’t going to be meaningful agency and bad luck protection. For which there has not been post Echoes save for the raid reprisals because they are craftable. I no longer see a reason to get the Frontiers year of content at launch because something that made the game SO much more fun and engaging was removed. If I decide to continue at all I’ll wait until that year of content is on sale near the end of its initial life cycle within the game.

1 Replythey removed crafting to keep the hamster wheel turning so sony and the chinese don't jerk their funding and shut them down but what bungie fails to realize, is that their p!ss poor choices are making people quit and never come back

I completely agree, I spent WAY more time playing this game when there were red borders to farm. I'd farm until I had every single red border each season, even if I didn't care about all the weapons, just so I'd have them in my crafting arsenal in case they became useful later. Also, another consequence of no more crafting is that contrary to what streamers and Bungie were hoping, random loot actually feels LESS valuable. I have so little space left in my vault that I just shard everything that isn't a perfect god roll that can do something that no other weapon can do. If it doesn't meet those extremely strict criteria, it just isn't good enough to justify the vault space anymore. Gone are the days when I could collect random drops that were just cool or niche. Now it's irreplaceable god rolls or nothing.

3 RepliesThey really need to fix perk weighting ROFL. There is no way they fixed it at all.

24 RepliesCry more this game needs items to chase

1 ReplyEdited by xbroggiex: 2/17/2025 1:34:09 PMI don't see the point in farming for certain items now if Frontiers is going to rework the weapon loot system anyway. They should just make all the weapons craftable now and then when Frontiers releases see how the new tiered system plays out. RNG loot only works when you are well rewarded for your time with plentiful drops and multi-perk drops. When you aren't even getting the item you want to drop what is the point? If I can do an entire Expert Nether run and not see an Adept drop in the entire run why would I bother farming it for drops? Especially when I can get a drop and it not be the perk combo I even remotely want or even it is a completely different weapon drop I again don't want. Destiny also doesn't work like Borderlands where a crap gun can drop and I can hover over it on the ground and see the item card and choose to just leave it on the ground, in Destiny its either forced into your inventory, you pick it up without meaning to or it clogs up your postmaster which could end up pushing out items you do want. In Destiny you are practically forced to delete items you don't want and it becomes a complete chore to do so.

Without crafting seasonal weapons will be a nightmare to get a good roll of once the seasons they are attached to are removed from the game. At least with some old seasonal weapons, xur can sell them so you can use deep sight harmonizers on them and get a crafted gun. Now you gotta just wait for xur or maybe banshee to sell the weapon you want with a good roll which may never happen

The worst and most obnoxious take in the game was the thought of limiting or taking away crafting. Talk about shooting yourselves in the foot for the sake of being abrasive. The next most obnoxious move is to add ridiculous modifiers to good content that slows down the performance of the game

8 RepliesThat's what I was telling most of my friends and ppl I play with. Crafting increased my play time. Now? I only play to get my destiny space shooter magic urges out the way, and then I'm done. There's no way I'll be farming for something that won't drop. I get some ppl say, "Well, you don't NEED to have everything," but this is a video game, we pay and play to get those shiny new toys. What's the point, if we can't even get a decent roll after hrs/days/weeks/months or grinding.

As your title states the problem is not crafting it is the excessive RNG caused by too many options. There are way too many perks. This means: Too many different perk combinations Too low of a chance to get that perfect roll, with the correct combination of perks Too many combinations that are complete junk Too much time has to be invested in figuring which perks work on which weapons or weapon classes It is ALL TOO MUCH! Frankly narrowing the perk pool, and making every perk combination valuable would go a long way to alleviating the never ending grind. Not every perk combo has to be the best but all should be useable.
-
10 RepliesYeah I used to be able to craft my god rolls and be thrilled about the farm, getting a red border was so satisfying. Now I just get a decent roll of a weapon and call it there.
-
You do realize some of the perks available would be taken off and the effects of other perks would have been dumb downed? Crafting the same but different weapons is not fun
-
9 RepliesHmm that is a problem You dont wanna farm but you want to farm..... You don't want to grind And in both instances 90% chance the weapon will just sit in your vault And someone said excited about a red border....since when? You flat out making things up, most players were getting full patterns within two weeks, whats exciting about that? There is NO effort in this at all and any semblance of a grind reaults in this soft *** community collectively losing their mind If they made god rolls available in eververse they would make mad cash cause folks to lazy to grind. Cannot wait to see Borderlands 4 come out and watch the soft side of the community cry about the grind

Been farming this like crazy but haven’t obtained overflow+jolting feedback LMG as of yet Will try more maybe after next reset but if it doesn’t drop will just stop bothering completing anything other than seasonal quests.. RNG had me farm this activity for hours but this will force me to stop bothering as well lol 😂 not blaming D2 devs its just bad luck from my end

Edited by Zonepatrol: 2/17/2025 6:13:25 PMBungie seems to have a bug where mods are tuned for each weapon. That is why they reprise weapons all the time. Second bug is the highly weighted RNG. So instead of addressing the bugs they doubled down on the gambling. After all house always wins especially if you can increase playtime.
-
If you follow through and refuse to farm - you’re in the minority. Most will still farm like crazy, so it is still a bump in player hours, as far as Bungie is concerned.
-
This is the problem crafting brought about. People expect 5/5 god rolls now and that’s not how the game should be. If you get the 2 main perks then the weapon will function how you want it to. Yes you can improve the handling, reload etc but you don’t have to have it. Otherwise you get your red borders and you can’t get better than 5/5 anyway. My Elsie’s rifle was like a 3/5 roll and it’s taken me flawless, we rans… etc. It’s perfectly fine.

They won't anytime soon.......crafting nerfs replay. RNG Buffs it.

4 RepliesThen it sounds like you don’t like a looter style game let alone a looter shooter, it’s in the description of the game you knew what you were signing up for. rn I’m farming for last season smg with attrition orbs and jolting feedback, there’s another gun with that roll and it’s the auto rifle from vespers. There’s many ways to get the roll one way or another. Out side of spike nades on grenade launchers and impact casing on rocket launchers the barrel, mag and master works do not matter in the slightest

11 RepliesNo one should have every god roll in the game no matter how much they play. No one Remember D1 when vender weapons where just some ramdom gun and rep took a lot longer.
