There's a reason to why there's why the forums are mostly negative.

I'd like to clarify that the blame isn't majorly on the community. The reason we are the way we are is because of how tone deaf Bungie is. I scroll through the forums and see nothing but passionate players wanting things to change. It saddens me to see such a fanbase that wants this game to prosper, but inevitably there'll come a time where it all will end. But the worst part is, it's not the developers that are fully at fault either. Prismatic Hunter being pay to win for crucible. Exotic class items taking so long to address to elongate play time. Checkmate and all the crucible changes being in vain. Episodic models being brought forward to inspire false hope of a refresh. All these sly acts throughout both PvE and PvP cause the community to lash out. The developers see all our complaints and wish they could do more, but are forced to disappoint because management won't allow them to provide. Bungie has only lasted this long by falling back onto companies that will pay a "get out of jail" card. Activision and Sony are the only reasons Destiny has lasted as long as it has. The only reasons why the game didn't fall under during Curse of Osiris and Lightfall is because of the backing they had. Even still, they are still faltering and becoming complacent with the second and third chances they've been granted. Because they're still banking on the fact that their community will stick by them just because of the little they've done. If they don't, their back up plan is relying on Sony. But it's too late. Both the community and Sony have seen the game they're playing. But that fact alone is why Bungie's name has been tarnished beyond repair. The community won't forgive them, and Sony unfortunately has stepped in too late. It's been a hell of a 10 years. More curses than blesses. Bungie doesn't deserve us. Their wealth has been based off of sheer luck and blind faith. I hate to say it, but let them rot. I wish all the best for the developers and fanbase whose voices were left to be ignored by upper management. Most of all to the developers who suffered the most dire of consequences.

  • I have a lot of regrets in life. Playing destiny isn’t one of them, if it wasn’t for this game I would never have found Khepris Horn.

It’s negative because it’s overran by miserable people who are unbalanced. It’s a game and should be fun. If you’re not having fun then play something else. If you haven’t touched the game in years move on. The game will never be the version that some here have their heads. It’s that simple. Somewhere along the line players here got confused between what’s actual feedback and what’s unhinged and toxic meltdowns. I’m not the only one who’s tired of seeing guys who haven’t played in years argue and create issues with players who actually enjoy the game. It’s beyond absurd to see grown men get upset over a video game. Its even worse when it’s guys who haven’t played in a long time and they troll (few posted here already). It’s about having a balanced perspective my guy.

      • Calling prismatic hunter p2w, saying checkmate was "in vain", not to mention the incredibly weird entitlement. THAT is why the forums are negative. Those of us that still like the game and want to see it improve have to wade through wave pools of tears and crying children and a lot of us are incredibly done with it. The game is not perfect, or anywhere close, and many things need improving, but the rampant tantrums and whining help literally nothing and I personally cannot wait for the day those people stop playing the game. I'd rather play an unpopulated game full of people who like it than what we have now. And then you throw in all the soup-brains thinking the game is closing to being turned off or something like D1 isn't still online despite not being touched in literal years by the devs. Cannot. Wait.
Bungie doesn't deserve us.
Well, they are called Sony now because the entire studio has been dismantled thanks to upper management that completely screwed up this franchise and a name that used to have meaning at one point. Upper management is no better than EA if not worse than EA. So all that cash grabbing they did -blam!- up this entire game, because that money all of you kept throwing at them including Eververse was being wasted on projects, millions were wasted, thrown in the trash on other things that had nothing to do with this game. But this doesn't exclude the community because the community is as much at fault for blindly following this developer thinking if we keep throwing money at them, "they will change". This business is nothing but a scummy business now that not even Sony will ever be able to help with the damage upper management caused. So yes, let the game and this scummy business rot.

        • The forums merely reflect the mood of the fan base. If Destiny was in a good spot, the general vibe would be one of positivity. Unfortunately, for many, the game is currently rather bland, with some players questioning the wisdom of continuing with the franchise due to the uncertainty over the long-term future of Destiny. I'm not interested in continuing with Destiny until the game improves.

        • I would say that the main reasons for the state of this place are: * They killed all forms of community with the site changes back in 2012/2013 and Bungie has seemingly gone out of it's way to prevent people from organically interacting with fellow gamers in the Destiny games. * With no community there's not really much to do here other than to report things that arent good/need improvement - and there are plenty of those. No one is going to take time out of their day just to look up a game site to say "I love your game, well done" * The little discussion that could be had has been outsourced to Reddit, Twitter and whatnot. Granted that those are bigger platforms but wouldnt it be more fun to have that activity here, on their own site - if only to dilute all the negative. But then we're back to them seemingly not wanting to have a community.

Spot on that. Was going to add some points but it's all been said before, many times by many people over many years. Bungie are not listening. They never will. No point wasting bandwidth trying anymore.

Mentioned it previously, but you are pretty much spot on there. A lot of us aren't "hating" on the game or the devs, but are just passionate fans who have set the game down because of the state it is in now and are just voicing our displeasure with where things are going. Bungie is partially to blame here. If they would start fielding some of these criticism points in the weekly updates or just have their community team engage more in constructive discussions on the direction of the game, I really feel like the overall community sentiment on the game would improve. A lot of people just feel like they aren't being heard when the classic "We're listening" responses come around, or we get repeated bland weekly updates that have little to nothing of importance as to the major issues with the game, and that's why people in general have been very negative about the game right now.

It’s mostly the community. Moreso just a social media reflex thing. Some people post pointless rants for the sake of being negative, others post some constructive feedback. Feedback is still largely negative because, as others have pointed out, people happy with the game usually don’t post feedback. It doesn’t necessarily matter what Bungie does in some cases. Matchmaking is the biggest example. It doesn’t matter what Bungie has done, the side that opposes the current matchmaking system will let you know.

            • The forums are negative because some people are experiencing the symptoms of withdraw. Up to and including people saying they're going to unite together to take money away from the dealer right before they proceed to walk right into the trap house to continue getting their fix. I've lost count of the people that have said they're going to stop playing and are still playing and posting on the forums. And I might even be one of them now that I think of it.

            • If you really need an 'in-a-nutshell' answer as to 'why', just check out the big 'We're Hiring!' banner that appears in the left column of this forum (and that's been there the whole time since the layoffs three weeks ago). They may be listening, but they sure as hell aren't paying attention...

                • People who blame the community are pathetically stupid. Bungie made the product, then they destroyed the product through years of laziness and incompetence. Bungie employees can come on here and pretend to be players all they want and blame the community for not liking their garbage, but that's just them trying to live with their failures.

                  • It’s been that way for a long time, but not to the degree it is today. Sure there were feuding player factions on here during D1, but as time went on, and Bungie ignored player feedback (and in cases did the complete opposite of what the players wanted) that disappointment became animosity as the years went on.

                  • It truly is sad when a game with so much potential never achieved the greatness it could have. The blame lies 100% on the Game Developer. Changing to a seasonal model and utilizing FOMO to drive player retention was the beginning of the end. Not listening to the average/everyday player & dictating how the game was to be played via champion/artifact mods ranks up there as typical Bungie Logic. Then to top it all of the decision is made pre Lightfall to make the game harder and nerf the power fantasy. Good riddance Destiny & it won’t be long until it’s good riddance Bungie as an independent studio.

                        • That’s an extremely one-sided view of things and I think it’s odd when people play a game for so long, but focus so heavily on the negative. You can’t separate Bungie from all the good parts of this game. It’s silly to suggest a company built and ran a live service game for 10 years, but did a terrible job. Playing a video game is a luxury. If all people tell you about is the bad stuff, they’re either exaggerating, lying, or playing the wrong game.

                          • The reason the forums are the way they are is not primarily on bungie. There are a lot of decent people out there actually enjoying the game, or at least capable of going more than 5 minutes without saying some of the most batshit insane things about it. The forums are unique in that regard. You have to wonder why, generally, like 90% of the other places where the game is discussed are more civil than this. The game is a common factor. Bungie is a common factor, and yet, this space is very different from a lot of the other ones ive been on. The factor that is different is the people who post on the forums. Its a pretty easy conclusion to come to.
