My clanmates and I jumped into a Crota clear and it took us about half an hour even though most of us were pretty competent and knew the mechanics.
Like it or not, Contest Mode is a sweaty modifier. It makes sense that people would rather have teammates who have some grasp of what they're doing over someone totally new.
I agree that overly restrictive requirements off-Contest are completely asinine (the best is when the person posting requires 200 clears and has only done the raid 3 times).
But Contest mode is a different beast. The margin for error is very tight and it's very hard to recover from a mistake, which can tax people's patience.

I disagree... I'm in my 60s, minimal raid experience and didn't KWTD but held my own in a group that eventually got stuck on the Deathsinger. Everyone's entitled to have a go and experience a Day One.

Oh of course, I'm not disputing that. My point is that players have every right to request that people has some skill/knowledge of raid when posting an LFG, especially during a Day 1 clear, as Contest mode is significantly more challenging. If you want a casual attempt, you're more than free to request one on the LFG yourself. I'm just saying that people are overreacting to the LFG situation on Day 1. I, myself, am totally fine with teaching people the raid mechanics, but I would rather avoid doing so during a Day 1 attempt. I'd much prefer a team I'm more familiar and comfortable with.
