Why is it bungie gets ripped for charging for cosmetics, but games like Fortnite it's ok? I don't understand why people have an issue with companies trying to make money. If they don't make money, they don't make games, it's that simple.

Is this a serious question? Are Destiny fans really this stupid? People already explained the difference between Destiny, a game that costs over $150, and Fortnite, a free game with no paid DLC, but it's crazy that you even have to. They aren't the same.
-
😂 because it’s a looter shooter and the best looking gear is in eververse, and well the rest of the loot bloooooooooooows goats.

If they don't make money, they don't make games, it's that simple.[/quote] Fortnite is free to play, hello. Destiny cost £50 on release for the base game. The collectors edition with season pass was £80/90. Then add on curse of osiris and warmind if you only got the base game. Then forsaken was £50 with the annual pass. The annual pass on its own was about £25. So altogether at the lowest amount that's £130 or $160 (roughly) for the game. Destiny is now basically subscription, full boxed priced edition, has an expansion model like an mmo and MTX. So this is why people are complaining and last time I checked that's a valid thing to complain about.
-
Regarding people having an issue with companies making money, it probably has something to do with the fact that just keeping up with DLC these days can run a customer upwards of 200 dollars in some cases (base game included). If companies aren't making money while selling millions of games AND millions of copes of DLC (Desinty 1 and 2 have sold approx. 50 million copies between the two games and dlc's), then they're doing something wrong. Adding microtransactions to full price games is just pure profit for them, and the store fronts have historically been made up of things you used to be able to earn in game (skins, cheats, other cosmetic items).
-
In all fairness you are comparing a free to play game to a AAA buy to play title, with a free to play economy.
-
Epic Games makes their money from FortNite on micro transactions as it’s F2P. Bungie already -blam!- their players in over $150. Soooooo...
-
Not a good example to use a game that needs Micro to support it knowing it's a free game. D2 you're paying for (everything.) The Micro in this game doesn't belong in it on the way Bungie has gone about it period. All items should be attainable just by simply playing the game, but the problem is, this entire game is lacking in-game content like vendors that this company hasn't even bothered to put any effort into updating them properly over a year now, but they can make sure Tess gets that update every single DLC??? I don't care what anyone says, that's absurd and shows how lazy as a developer this company actually is. Bringing back factions with new gear ext... is as easy as what they have done with Tess, actually a lot easier because Tess has twice if not triple the inventory. Hmm...
-
fortnight = free destiny = AAA full price title. also; a) they made it seem like we would have the choice to buy for silver or bright dust out of the gate; when they really just gave us a small pittance for bright dust options. b) the armor's aren't just cosmetic, they have rolls that actually affect your gameplay, so if you like the set you need to keep paying for them to get a good roll c) in this paid for looter shooter, they have consistently been making more eververse (purchasable) gear than actual content gear you can earn by just playing.
-
Errr fortnite is free and not a full price AAA game. Is an emote in any game worth more than a couple of bucks/quid anyway???? Pure greed.
-
Ur dumb. Fortnite don’t make us pay for 60$ expansions and 40$ annual pass content on top of a 60$ base game. Fortnite a free to play game charges 10$ for a seasons pass for cosmetics. The content they release in the game is free to all. Unlike destiny where the content is locked and u can’t do as much with ur friends, making forced to buy crap.
-
Because Fortnite is free.
-
Fornite "FREE" Destiny 2 $60+$40 annual pass= $100. So tell me how are they the same.

Facts
-
Simple.... Fornite and warframe are free..... They both release updates faster than Bungie and in warframes case on the quality level as Bungie.... I'm happy to drop £50 a year on cosmetics in warframe if im having fun which I have done... Destiny 2 on the having hand you have the cost of the game and then the cost of the annual pass... so lets say thats £70 I've spend in the last year alone on D2 which is the case now Bungie wants me to hand over another £30 a month for cosmetics? Warframe suddenly becomes cheaper!! a F2P game is cheaper!!! let that sink in.
-
I wish I could math like this.
-
Edited by PilksUK: 6/5/2019 9:23:36 AMIts not hard... You just look at what you spent on the cost of each game before MTX... The point is 90% of the cosmetics in warframe are earnable for FREE from playing the game which used to be the case for D2 now its not.. You cannot even earn all the armour from Tess for free using bright dust now... as its no longer 1 piece of armour per class each week like it was last season... So yeah a buy to play game has a more greedy cash shop than a f2p game is what people are upset about... this is a loot based game its all about collecting the cool looking stuff... which is mostly in the cash shop now...

K so couple things here. Yes destiny is a pay to play game however it lost its major backer so it will need even more revenue to continue this franchise. This should not have surprised anyone who understands business. Second a lot of the items are still purchasable via bright dust. Now there’s bounties to give you dust as well as at this point in the game you should have a large sum accumulated just from general play. Third beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, as so far I’m enjoying the actual gear that the menagerie and raids drop over the eververse gear. I DO however wish that more exotic ships, sparrows, and ghosts were obtainable through gameplay along with the ones sold in the store Lastly while micros leave a bad taste in the mouth, they are here to stay unfortunately. I do like that bungie did take some criticism and made the majority for direct purchase either through the dust or silver. Also pending your console, silver technically could be obtained for free so to speak, as through the Xbox rewards program I got $30 worth of silver. Now as for warframe I don’t play it so I can’t have a fair opinion on it in relation to destiny but I also have to respect what I hear the developers do.

I don't think anyone begrudges Bungie the fact they need to make money, what rankles is that there are several pages worth of armor/weapons just sat in our collection as they're not very usable that could easily have some random roll perks applied to all of them. The same goes for the weapons, only now they're selling us the same weapons over again with a different skin on them. This happened in Black Armory as well, but I think it was handled better as we also got the awesome forge weapons and the reworked weapons just helped pad out the loot pool. This season we have access to four new sets of armor. One is a raid, so if you don't raid then we're down to 3 (not about whether one can or can't raid, just whether folks like to do so.) of those 3 one can be purchased for silver or you purchase a piece at a time with bright dust (though it's no longer guaranteed to be for your class unlike before) One can be obtained from the new activity, and the other is random drop from the bright engrams and one is a re release of an earlier Iron Banner. That's not much loot for a looter shooter. If we had access to the full range of gear that exists in the game, that wouldn't be an issue, but there aren't many sets viable at this point. I, and many others i'm sure, understand that Bungie's resources will be limited and the unfortunate fact of life in the gaming industry today is that most game revenue models are built around Mtx. Which is why I don't suggest they give us multiple brand new sets. There is a lot of gear in this game collecting dust that seems like it could be spread out to different loot pools to make in-game gearing more interesting without taking away resources or shutting down the cash shop. Additionally, weapon ornaments, transmat effects, ghosts, and sparrows are far more heavily weighted toward cash shop than what may drop in the game further diminishing the loot pools in the game. Again I have no quarrel with them being offered in the shop, but it would be nice to see more added to the game itself as well. I know the go to answer is that this stuff is cosmetic so it doesn't affect the gameplay, but it does. There are many players out there, myself included, whose primary drive is collecting armor and weapons and ghosts and things. Having most of those tied to a cash shop kind of takes the thrill out of collecting them. I will likely never raid as I don't have the time to invest, and i'm Okay with the fact that there will be stuff in those raids I will never get. I am also never going to be good enough at PvP to consistently chase pinnacle PvP weapons and I hold no quarrel with that either. In the PvE general side of things, there isn't much to chase once you have hit the new level cap. I'm a player who wants to spend their time in the game, but when drops are as luckluster for frustrating as they can become at this stage I feel something's got to give. I can only hope that now finally free of Activision with the launch of Opulence, Bungie can chart a new path forward that begins to address some of these issues which seem to crop up time and again.

Fortnite = Free Destiny 2 = Full priced game If you can't see the difference then you are part of the problem.
-
Ehh kinda right but fornite was funded off of save the world early access players. Secondly bungie did lose its backer, so you really should have seen this coming. It’s direct purchase now for 90% of the cosmetics so honestly take it or leave it.
-
Doesn't matter how it was funded, its a free to play game. Never mentioned my opinions on Eververse either so not sure why you added that, Im well aware of the perceived need for an increase.

-
Destiny is a loot based game but Bungie wants you to buy the loot separately. Greed nothing else , don’t know how any player can defend them , it’s time to send them a clear message and stop playing. Otherwise it will only get worse
-
Fortnite is free and doesn't release any DLCs for their game.
-
Well fortnite is free, for one
