This isn’t necessarily your favourite artist or group but who you would consider the greatest of all time?
For me I’d say Nirvana because they managed to forever change rock, influencing an entire new genre and from they’re ashes rose my favourite band: Foo fighters

Death, while they are now known as a technical death metal band they were the founding fathers of Death Metal their sound is one of a kind, the lyrics are true and meaningful. Chuck Schuldiner was an amazing man and his work will be something I look up to until I die. R.I.P Chuck 🤘

Blues lead to rock & roll. Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, The Beatles, then everything exploded and followed that. You can't specify a greatest. There are too many segments and off shots. You can only specify your favorite.

18 RepliesThe only true answer is the Beatles. You talk about changing Rock and influencing the Beatles are that. Beatlemania is something music will probably never see again. 13 #1 albums in 7 years. Bob Dylan is the greatest song writer of all time

1 ReplyEdited by Latrodectus5002: 11/30/2018 12:10:02 PMEither Nirvana Or N.W.A. Nirvana for the reasons you stated & N.W.A since they had a major influence on rap. Some of the members also went on to use their success to make more of an impact on the industry, specifically Dr Dre who founded Beats, found artists like Snoop Dogg & Eminem & inspired future rappers like Kendrick Lamar.

I don’t know if you could pick 1 greatest for all genres of popular music. For rock and pop I would say The Beatles, The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, etc. For punk/underground music I would say The Velvet Underground, The Ramones, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Joy Division. For grunge I would say Sonic Youth, The Pixies, Nirvana etc. For Soul/Funk James Brown, Stevie Wonder. For rap/hip hop Public Enemy, Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash. My personal faves - The Smith’s, The Go-Betweens, Talking Heads, David Bowie, plus a thousand more.

While my all time favorite band is easily Iron Maiden, I have to give it to Led Zeppelin. While they may have had some really mellow tunes, I do credit them for kick-starting thrash and metal.

Edited by Catty_Wampus22: 11/30/2018 8:40:00 AMI don't think you can name just a single artist/band. But some that revolutionized musc: Beatles - do I even need to explain? Jimi Hendrix - he was only around a few years and only put out a handful of albums but God damn! He could outplay anyone. He didn't play music, he felt music. Bob Dylan - probably the most prolific song writer, not just in number but number and quality Pink Floyd - because they were -blam!-ing amazing Led Zeppelin - one of the most solid band of musicians Pearl Jam - back in the day, 2000-2003 was their peak, one of the most tight bands in that time frame. Now...meh wrote good songs, good music, went to Congress over Ticketmaster having a monopoly on selling tickets which paved the way for other options..... There's others but I'm half asleep

While not my favourite, I’d be willing to throw Judas Priest into the ring.
