Discuss all things Destiny 2.

Let's face it, there shouldn't even be a Destiny 2...

This game shouldn't exist. Based on how the original Destiny was presented. D2 is pretty much the opposite of what they presented as the "vision" for Destiny. Oddly, The Taken King/Rise of Iron were pretty much exactly what people thought the game would be... A game that grows and evolves over time. MORE content added, constantly UPDATED game systems. Characters that we could develop and enhance over time. Were you expecting 3 steps back when you bought D2? A complete disconnect from D1? I mean, of course we knew they had to update the architecture and the original game couldn't last forever. But did you expect there to be NO real connection? No Cosmodrome, Moon, Venus, Mars, Dreadnaught? What? Did they suddenly all vanish after the Cabal? Not even a HINT of the previous locations. How does that EXPAND the game? Asset swapping one location for another? Previous subclasses. Did we all just forget? Shouldn't there be a little bit more old mixed in with the new? Even just a little? We just leaving the plaugelands go? Let the Fallen keep messing with Siva? I mean, we did our part right? Might as well let them have the scraps, get powerful, so we have something interesting to do in the spring. Where is this world? One that moves forward with little consequence from catastrophic events. Oh, Cabal destroyed such and such, welp there goes all of our lore... And then there are the game systems themselves. How exactly could you have shipped D1 with the inventory system in place, let alone be 4 years in and still have no real direction? I, myself, could LITERALLY, not figuratively, design a better inventory system in less than a day, all based on what already exists. And I said DESIGN, not build, but truthfully, the foundation is all there, they just need to implement it fully. You know how I know this? Destiny Sets, and Destiny Item Manager. They use available game data to do pretty much EVERYTHING the actual game inventory system should do. Everything. From sorting to transfers. Updating our collections without having to store shit in the vault, which REALLY should be a loadout manager. A vault does not promote variety, or make it easy to find something new to use. But hey, what do I know. I'm just some guy. I mean, I'm also a software developer, and I do UX design for a living. Optimization of systems for data retrieval and management, but nope, really I'm just some guy who plays video games in his spare time. Not that you need to be any kind of an expert to know that the game should have shipped with the ability to sort by name as the default. Or that being able to remember your previous page, you know something people complained about in D1, might be a cool UPGRADE. I could go on and on. So many things that were part of D1, just gone. No replacement. No enhancement. Nope, just gone. 3 steps back. Destiny 2 is not what we should be playing. We should all still be playing Destiny: Darkness Falls, or some shit like that. Destiny 2 is a marketing trick. That giant 2 you see everyday is their idea of justifying charging you for a "new" game. Except that isn't how it should have been. No one wanted a "new" game. No, what we wanted, and what they presented Destiny as in the first place, was evolution. And the sad thing is, we would have paid for that as well. No marketing bullshit necessary. **Edit** Holy shit. I step away for half a day and you guys just keep on posting. Thank you all, both positive and negative for your responses. Seems like I hit a nerve. Again, all responses are appreciated.

    • I definitely don’t feel emotionally invested in D2. Destiny 1 is the woman I fell in love with and wanted forever, but she got on crack and started doing stupid shit! She said she’s in rehab, so I check on her with hope. One slip, or relapse, and I’m gone forever!

        • I think putting a big 2 on the end is fine. From a marketing perspective a sequel is going to bring a lot more people back to the game than another apparent expansion. But everything else you said is spot on, it should be all bolted on to the existing Destiny 1 and it should be a massive improvement over the first game.

          • I complained that the Dreadnaught was too small. Boy do I feel stupid now. Here I was thinking it'll only get bigger. Mercury isn't even as big as the old PvP map Bastion. LOL

No one wanted a "new" game.
I agree, this shows that Bungie doesn't listen to the players. We are weaker than in D1 - re-skinned D1 weapons for god sake. Bungie did NOT have enough new ideas / content to make a new game. I think Bungies headquarters is a down syndrome farm..

              • For me, I shake my head at the core design decisions: Dual primaries No choice for PvP 2 paths for each subclass Raid gear with no raid perks Clan engrams Poor vault storage and sorting Everything else makes me glad I didn't get the DLC because of their dumbass PR crap and monetization schemes.

              • I agree with your ideas but offer this alternative. Destiny 2 should’ve been released as a stand-alone PVP game. There should’ve been no PVE content. Bungie could’ve marketed the hell out of it as the PVP experience like no other! Destiny should’ve received an expansion, Cabal related w raid, and then CoO DLC this winter.

                      • I agree with this post. I have been playing Destiny since the First Look Alpha on PS4. Vanilla Destiny was a mess, and I stopped playing after beating VoG. I had the deluxe edition, but I didn't end up playing the DLC until I heard rumblings of The Taken King expansion. Once TTK dropped I was back on board with Destiny as the expansion was a step in the right direction towards the "10-year plan" Bungie had espoused during E3. I loved The Taken King, from the raid to the patrols and strikes, All of it was an amazing experience and I even purchased the soundtrack on iTunes. If you have never experienced the opening of Regicide you are truly missing out, Michael Salvatori is BAE. Also, Oryx was THE GOD of all Raid bosses, the feeling of elation experienced when watching his desiccated husk drift towards Saturn has not been replicated in ANY RAID encounter. The Rise of Iron expansion was a bit of a disappointment when compared to TTK, but it added enough content to the experience to justify my continued playing. I never had a chance to do the full WotM raid, but I would love to go back and experience it someday. When Destiny 2 was announced I was stoked! Finally, I would be able to experience Destiny free from the constraints of PS3 & XB360 limitations. I was even more excited when I heard the news that D2 was coming to PC. I sold all of my consoles and purchased a new Gaming PC so I could play D2 at 60+ fps with all the settings maxed (which I currently do at 1440p). When I saw the first "Zavala" trailer for D2 I cried, make fun of me if you will, but I cried tears of joy at the thought of Bungie's promise being fulfilled with D2. I was even okay with the tower being destroyed and losing all of our gear, I was even okay with having no light, and I was even okay with not having any of the old locations in D2. I was okay with all of this because it would be a NEW experience from Vanilla D1, TDB, HoW, TTK, and RoI... I could not have been more wrong. At the end of the D2 Beta, when Gaul kicks you down to the city below, I fantasized about what it would mean to be in a world without light. How would gameplay change without my powers? How would death and respawns be implemented? Most importantly, how would I get my light back? When the game finally released on PC, almost two months after consoles, I loaded up the game and played through the familiar Homecoming mission from the Beta. Then it happened, Gaul kicked me down into the ruins of the last city of mankind. I was immersed in the destruction of a city that I had previously only been able to look down upon from The Tower's perch. My injured and lightless guardian limped through the wartorn streets evading capture until I found my ghost who now could only heal me as their connection to The Traveler had been severed. I witnessed stunning vistas of the imprisoned Traveler as I followed a mystical falcon, I encountered Cabal scouting parties in combat sessions made more intense by my lightless state. Eventually, I reached the farm, my new base of operations from which I would strike back at the Cabal and reclaim rescue the Traveler. My next mission had me go into the dark forest within EDZ as my ghost was being called by a shard of the Traveller. I fought through hordes of enemies and after many waves, I was clear to scan the shard for clues on how to restore my light. I held 'Tab' and then it happened, I regained my light. After only one mission I gained my light back, I completed no strikes, no raids, no PvP, nothing, all I had to do was hold a button after less than 30 minutes of playtime and I had my light back. Welcome to a world without light my ass. I tried to stay positive and convinced myself that there would be more to the story as many developers stated they had put so much story in D2 that people would complain and ask for less story. Then I finished the campaign and ended up back at the Tower, a lower level of the tower that wasn't destroyed. It was here that I realized how empty the experience was, the 'end game' was just the end of the game. The raid was uninspired, the rewards useless, PvP was a chore, weapons were underwhelming, exotics were pedestrian, but I told myself "just wait" there is more. Then CoO came out and we started to receive our old exotics, we regained our heroic strikes, we were able to buy rewards for shards and tokens, and I wondered "Why was D2 a new game?" This should have been an expansion. We should still have our kiosks and year 1-3 D1 items. We should still have our old D1 locations to travel to. The new playspaces in D2 are nice, but the fields of glass on mercury is so small that I wonder why it even exists at all. The infinite forest is finite, it isn't even that fun. The adventures are cool, but they have low replayability. The raid lair... are you serious? More like raid liar. D2 is not a finished game, at least not yet. However, I still believe in Bungie's vision of the 10-plan. I will continue to play the game, toxic playerbase and all. I just hope that moving forward, Bungie treats expansions more like World of Warcraft instead of Call of Duty.

                        • I for one play this game much less than I used to. D1 was the only game I played. (Due to time considerations, if I like a game, it's all I play). I used to just hop in the crucible for an evening because it was fun. I truly enjoyed it. I cannot stand this new crucible, for a variety of reasons. I used to just run strikes when they added burn modifiers, especially arcburn+ specialist (RIP Found Verdict), because it was relaxed fun for me. Now the strikes are an annoying grind that offer nothing to satisfy the power fantasy. The bottom line: This game just isn't as fun. It's that simple.

                          • how do you keep selling a game for 3 years? how do you attract new customers? would new customers buy the game & then have to buy all the DLC to be current? maybe Bungie would put a new disc on the shelf with every DLC?
