This game shouldn't exist. Based on how the original Destiny was presented. D2 is pretty much the opposite of what they presented as the "vision" for Destiny. Oddly, The Taken King/Rise of Iron were pretty much exactly what people thought the game would be...
A game that grows and evolves over time. MORE content added, constantly UPDATED game systems. Characters that we could develop and enhance over time.
Were you expecting 3 steps back when you bought D2? A complete disconnect from D1? I mean, of course we knew they had to update the architecture and the original game couldn't last forever. But did you expect there to be NO real connection?
No Cosmodrome, Moon, Venus, Mars, Dreadnaught? What? Did they suddenly all vanish after the Cabal? Not even a HINT of the previous locations. How does that EXPAND the game? Asset swapping one location for another?
Previous subclasses. Did we all just forget? Shouldn't there be a little bit more old mixed in with the new? Even just a little?
We just leaving the plaugelands go? Let the Fallen keep messing with Siva? I mean, we did our part right? Might as well let them have the scraps, get powerful, so we have something interesting to do in the spring.
Where is this world? One that moves forward with little consequence from catastrophic events. Oh, Cabal destroyed such and such, welp there goes all of our lore...
And then there are the game systems themselves.
How exactly could you have shipped D1 with the inventory system in place, let alone be 4 years in and still have no real direction? I, myself, could LITERALLY, not figuratively, design a better inventory system in less than a day, all based on what already exists. And I said DESIGN, not build, but truthfully, the foundation is all there, they just need to implement it fully.
You know how I know this?
Destiny Sets, and Destiny Item Manager.
They use available game data to do pretty much EVERYTHING the actual game inventory system should do. Everything. From sorting to transfers. Updating our collections without having to store shit in the vault, which REALLY should be a loadout manager. A vault does not promote variety, or make it easy to find something new to use. But hey, what do I know. I'm just some guy. I mean, I'm also a software developer, and I do UX design for a living. Optimization of systems for data retrieval and management, but nope, really I'm just some guy who plays video games in his spare time.
Not that you need to be any kind of an expert to know that the game should have shipped with the ability to sort by name as the default. Or that being able to remember your previous page, you know something people complained about in D1, might be a cool UPGRADE.
I could go on and on. So many things that were part of D1, just gone. No replacement. No enhancement. Nope, just gone. 3 steps back.
Destiny 2 is not what we should be playing. We should all still be playing Destiny: Darkness Falls, or some shit like that.
Destiny 2 is a marketing trick. That giant 2 you see everyday is their idea of justifying charging you for a "new" game. Except that isn't how it should have been. No one wanted a "new" game.
No, what we wanted, and what they presented Destiny as in the first place, was evolution. And the sad thing is, we would have paid for that as well.
No marketing bullshit necessary.
**Edit**
Holy shit. I step away for half a day and you guys just keep on posting. Thank you all, both positive and negative for your responses. Seems like I hit a nerve. Again, all responses are appreciated.

Edited by Iccotak: 12/18/2017 1:19:44 AMhttps://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/240549521 Lets all agree that we want an FPS MMO RPG and get on with it. Once they know what kind of game they want they can start building a better game. It is Obvious that Destiny 2 is an attempt to revamp interest in the franchise otherwise we would just be sticking with D1. Because this "Lite-MMO" with some RPG mechanics system they have going is clearly the root of why this game lacks depth. Implement full Open world like Skyrim, WoW, ESO, and recently Warframe. If I can see it I want to be able to go there. I don't want these WARNING 3 2 1 if I try to cross a lake. Give a voice to our character and Implement NPCs that we can converse with and can tell us about the world while at the same time share details about ourselves. I mean We Were Brought Back From The Dead. This should be an opportunity to explore the world. You know what's great about MMOs? I can invest myself in my character for a decade and grow a history with my character in the world. MMOs are like a second life that we can invest and immerse ourselves into. That's the real problem with doing sequels for a game like this. It gets rid of progress we made with our characters and has us start over again. There goes three years of progress for D1 players. in ESO I have a character that I have been playing for the past 3 years who I have always made progress with and have accumulated hundreds of stories from both in-game content and player interaction. I have a 4 year old account on Warframe. Games like Destiny, ESO, Warframe, WoW, etc. they are about player progression over the years that they are played, and for that reason, it works against that interest to make sequels. You are never going to see a WoW 2. That is what expansions are for, to build upon the groundwork. The creators of the Final Fantasy MMO admitted their mistake and rebuilt that game from the ground up. D2 needs to re-organize itself and integrate D1 into it so then we have substantially more content available. Especially for PC players Side Note: I understand that Bungie needs funds in order to support an MMO. But there are better ways to go about it. Go look at ESO they have a great B2P system with optional subscription.

I had no idea that there'll be a point in my life that I'll have this livid animosity towards Bungie that I have currently in my soul. Towards Bungie! The guys who got me into console gaming with Halo CE! What happened, how it could have gone this wrong...

5 RepliesCan we also face that you are an accident?

Here's the thing; currently from what we know bungie listened to the wrong group of people when they thought "this is what the community wanted" when in reality NON of use wanted the changes we're currently dealing with in D2. The game is the compete polar opposite to D1 and it's going to fail miserably over the next few years. From a financial stand point bungie is in good place since the launch was a success BUT everyone who got hyped thinking they were buying Destiny in its rise of iron state got physically and emotionally betrayed. We ended out getting a game that gives hand outs and everyone wins trophy, also a progression system that purely lies in Loot box progression.... no more getting the god roll luna... just a sad "yaaay I... got .. the exotic ship that should be part of the raid loot rewards... "

2 RepliesLet's face it d2 y1 is pretty much a sunken ship. Right ow all we can hope for is that they take what they learned about this failure to somehow build a better ship for y2.

13 RepliesEdited by Oddish43: 12/14/2017 3:15:37 AMThis story will illustrate what went wrong with D2: A Dog, to whom the butcher had thrown a bone, was hurrying home with his prize as fast as he could go. As he crossed a narrow footbridge, he happened to look down and saw himself reflected in the quiet water as if in a mirror. But the greedy Dog thought he saw a real Dog carrying a bone much bigger than his own. If he had stopped to think he would have known better. But instead of thinking, he dropped his bone and sprang at the Dog in the river, only to find himself swimming for dear life to reach the shore. At last he managed to scramble out, and as he stood sadly thinking about the good bone he had lost, he realized what a stupid Dog he had been. Bungie had a fiercely loyal community of hardcore players in Destiny 1, but that wasn't enough for them. They wanted the casuals. They wanted the hardcore PvP players. So, they reconfigured their game to be casual-friendly, and created only weapons and equipment that would ensure a balanced Crucible, even if it meant boring exotics. Well, the casuals came and went, and the PvPers have thrown nothing but hate at the "new" Crucible. And the hardcore players who were betrayed are drifting away as well. Like the dog, Bungie could soon find themselves left with nothing.

Destiny 2 should have existed. It just should have been BETTER than Destiny 1.

The games trash at its finest. You did well on summing up the major points. For me it boils down to 3 things No incentive to play... everythings the same, no randomness, everything scales with power level No fun... I dont feel stronger... 90% of the game can be run by ... No originality ... still doing the exact same things 3 times to keep all 3 guys leveled. Sorry doing things 3 times is filler , not fun with a different jump No value.. there was no real value for my $100. There is also no value wasting my time pretending they will fix or do anything interesting . Played the dlc for a day and half. Went right back to Warframe..

100% agree with this post! By end of year 3 bungie had built destiny into something, now they trashed all the progress and things we accomplished in the universe with the TTK,ROI, HOW and CE. I thought it was pretty cool that our actions in CE led to Oryx coming to our solar system in the TTK. Now it feels like none of that materd. D2 is a huge step back for character progression, loot, quality of life for players, and the power of being a gaurdian.
-
As soon as they get rid of the shitstain leadership in Bungie, the sooner we can have the Great Game we were promised.
-
The only reason there was a D2 was that Bungie scammed all that money out of Activision by overselling what they could do and Activision can't eat that big of a loss by canceling the franchise.
-
just release D1 for PC.
-
This is exactly it! Game evolution, not a new game.
-
Agreed and in a few years they will be taking us for fools once again with D3

8 RepliesEdited by BaDnEwZ06: 12/15/2017 2:49:23 AMHmmm... interesting post. I get it. Everyone’s mad about the more PVP focused path Bungie decided to go with D2. Yeah, there’s some missed opportunities within this game. Ex. Dumbing down Crucible to only a couple options,(which is probably just for the interim time) and removing 6v6. Which on that point I enjoy 4v4 much better. Needing the skill tree to only accommodate two options. Which this was done because of player feedback. Basically people didn’t really understand how to use it. Oh, and balancing weapons so that you don’t die within seconds from a hand cannon. Also, this was done because it was asked by the community. Long story short, we honestly asked for these changes! Then, when they are implemented, we realize it wasn’t quite what we wanted. BUNGIE... don’t worry! This community is purely made up of spoiled kids. You have delivered us one of the best franchises literally of all time in Halo. You managed to create another huge franchise in Destiny and pretty much revolutionize how MMOFPS are made. I applaud you as a company. Oh, and love the confidence in the Team as well. Luke Smith is a bad ass! Peace!

D1 Y1 was the best in terms of PvP matchmaking balance. Rise of Iron pre 2.5.0.2 was the next best D1 ever was for me since TTK. Loved Hawksaw. There should’ve never been a “sequel” or a numbered version to this game. As OP said, it should only be an evolution and expansion with constant updates. More frequently than ever 3-4 months because of “seasons”. We should be playing “Destiny: Command of the Cabal”, or “Destiny: Vex Void” right now. I don’t see how this game will be successful past The Dawning or even at this very moment. The Spring DLC has nothing going for it especially if it’s as small as Curse of Osiris was.

Absolutely spot on. D2 is nothing like I expected it to be. D3? No thanks.

Here's some irony for anyone who wants a little giggle. Here in England Game are now selling Destiny 2 for less than the expansion pass! Destiny 2 £19.99 Expansion pass £29.99 I had to go in just to ask the guy was that a typo! He wondered why I left laughing like an idiot. Guess he's not clued up on the recent issues with the game.

13 RepliesEdited by vmondude: 12/16/2017 1:22:10 AMNailed it dude. Bottom line is Destiny 1 held everyone’s interest for 3 years... and we loved it! Destiny 2 has lost everyone’s interest in 3 months!!

Throw a stone in this forum at the moment and your gonna hit someones nerve! It’s a very unhappy place right now.

4 RepliesThey had to make a new game to move forward and get a bigger player base. The base game and most expansions were built for 360 and ps3. Obsolete consoles that prevented Destiny from being so much more. Destiny 2 is still young and will keep pushing content. I think most people forget how Destiny 1 had massive content droughts.

tbh they really gave us lore lovers/masters a punch in the gut by removing grimoire cards. I really just wish they'd give us more lore. Especially since like...the adventures tend to be pointless to do but contain some really important lore like can maybe the adventures actually be worth doing? lmao
