Anyone Else Saving Up Engrams for Rise of Iron?
I don't know if this will work or not, but I heard that it did for TTK's April update. I have about 10 gold engrams and quite a few legendary and sublime engrams stashed in the vault and postmaster, waiting for the new expansion to turn in and get new exotics (especially warlock legs). I don't plan to cash them in immediately, but will wait until I level up a bit and then turn them in.
If it works, I'll have some shiny new stuff; if it doesn't. I'll have some exotic shards which I sorely need. Win-win.
Anyone else going to try this?
EDIT: 24 hours later, most replies are of the belief that it won't work the way it did in April, due to that being an update rather than an expansion. This may very well be, but I see nothing to lose from trying.
I'm still sticking with my plan, since even if the engrams decrypt as old gear, they [i]should[/i] (fingers crossed) be consistent with my new, higher light level. They will also rapidly boost my cryptarch level and yield new gear that way. I've even started letting blue engrams stack up a bit at the postmaster.

4 RepliesEngrams from let's say vanilla were always vanilla engrams, open them in dark below or house of wolves it's still a vanilla engram, April update was an update and added to the loot table, didn't have its own. Save them if you want but you'll get ttk loot. Only thing you'll really get from it is crypt-arch rep which could lead to an engram. But even then people always complained about lack of content, if that's such an issue I never understood why people try flying through it super fast.

Yup, post master is full and more in the Vault, I just have 6 more bounties to fill on my Titan then I'm done, all Factions edged, Vanguard Edged, Crucible edged, Gunsmith Edged, have about 8000 in glimmer waiting to be turned in with the Cryptarch.......even have IB Gold bounties filled for extra cash if needed.

I don't bother with saving engrams or edging factions. But I have about 1500 strange coins waiting for xur

Yeahh, I have over 60 exotic engrams right now. Had to stop using 3oc because I'm running out of space in my vault haha.

3 RepliesI have between 30 - 40 engrams saved up. My plan is to get packages from the Cryptarch and the Vanguard which should have updated gear in them.

yup. almost 50 exotics, half a dozen or so legendaries saved. also now working on getting all three of my characters to within 100 points of faction, vanguard, crucible and cryptarch rank ups. saving SCs, etc. so yeah, maybe my engrams won't decrypt into new gear or higher level gear, but it WILL increase my cryptarch standing which WILL give me new stuff! and besides, what am I gonna do with more 335 stuff now anyway?

3 RepliesI know it won't decrypt to the Rise of Iron loot, but idk if it will be a higher light than 335. No I'm not a noob, I've just never tried it before. I'm a year 1 player.

It won't work, the engrams are "time stamped" meaning that they will only give you TTK gear and light level no matter when you decrypt them.

Dlc' don't drop at new light levels on old engrams. Cryptarch rank ups drop same engrams you will get in patrol, strikes and any other activity. Zero wrong with what you are doing however.

Week one player here and I just cannot seem to save a single engram- for any expansion. It's like treasure chests; I have to open them. Every time.

7 RepliesWe go through this stupidity every expansion it's seems , and after three expansions it's clear people like you Op are no closer to figuring out this crap will not fly , no matter how many times you try it . If you look at the definition of insanity, your picture will be there. So do what HAS been proven to work, rank up vendors but don't collect your packages, don't pick up any exotic engrams just let everything go to the postmaster, save trials and iron banner bounties still RoI drops . This stuff is what anyone who wants a head start on RoI should do , hoarding engrams is just an exercise in futility and disappointment...

No, thise engrams will decide into Y2 stuff, since this is a DLC and not an update. However, deciding will get you Rep with the the Cryptarch, whose new packages will drop Y3 stuff.

I have half of my vault filled with armor engrams. Only 2 or 3 weapon engrams.

This is what is [i][u]likely[/u][/i] to happen: Using y2 engrams during y3 will net you y2 weapons and armor. However, you will be ranking up the Cryptarch pretty quickly and will be able to obtain "free" y3 gear quicker.

The engrams will give you items that are currently available not new stuff. It was that way for every expansion.

Things "accepted" and taken into the vault or inventory have already got what there going to give you and will not make any new items, the gold (exotic engrams are locked and do not work into a new expansion) If you want to stash anything stash it at the post master and do not accept it until roi rolls out then you have a chance at new stuff, this is how it worked before, packages would also not yeild new stuff so get everything to 10rep or so away and ten everything in for XP and item boosts on day 1

Yes and no. Yes I'm collecting exotic engrams, and no, not for RoI exotics. Just to mass open.

It'll be year 2 great but I recommend getting to the highest light you can get to then decrypt them
