I don't know if this will work or not, but I heard that it did for TTK's April update. I have about 10 gold engrams and quite a few legendary and sublime engrams stashed in the vault and postmaster, waiting for the new expansion to turn in and get new exotics (especially warlock legs). I don't plan to cash them in immediately, but will wait until I level up a bit and then turn them in.
If it works, I'll have some shiny new stuff; if it doesn't. I'll have some exotic shards which I sorely need. Win-win.
Anyone else going to try this?
EDIT: 24 hours later, most replies are of the belief that it won't work the way it did in April, due to that being an update rather than an expansion. This may very well be, but I see nothing to lose from trying.
I'm still sticking with my plan, since even if the engrams decrypt as old gear, they should (fingers crossed) be consistent with my new, higher light level. They will also rapidly boost my cryptarch level and yield new gear that way. I've even started letting blue engrams stack up a bit at the postmaster.
Thanks, everyone, for the replies.

1 ReplySeems to be a lot of people in this thread that are either new, or didn't notice the precedent that has been set and followed the last couple years. You WILL NOT get new items. If it were an update that was introducing, or bringing forward older weapons, like the April update, you would have a chance at rolling new stuff. Doesn't work with whole new expansions. However, you'll upgrade Cryptarch rank and replenish your exotic shard inventory. OP, please edit your post with this info and save everyone some confusion!

No Im in no rush I have a shitton of strange coins still so will be enough that many exotics are easily obtained

30 RepliesIt's amazing how many people in this post seem to work for Bungie....they all definitively know that it wont work!

I currently have 50 odd exotic engrams in the vault plus the same legendary. My thinking is that I know I won't get any new guns, but it might help level me faster, ie old guns/armour bought forward in to RoI at the newer light levels. Worst case scenario I'll go round with the cryptarch a few times and get some new engrams. And I don't care about exotic drops at the moment as I have everything I want. I also have about 750 motes to level up factions quickly. Also, also saving up resources for the same. Hell, I've got to do something until it drops.

4 RepliesI'm saving a boot engram for my warlock.
Maybe just maybe... I'll get those new warlock exotic boots.
U won't get new items but it will help u level up your cryptarch which will give new loot

1 ReplyU have a very good point. I am doing the same. I haven't heard or read anything that states Y2 engrams would only give Y2 drops once ROI hits the shelfs. I guess we shall wait and see what happens.

I don't have the will power to save them up. I also get around 150- 200 SC a week but spend them on heavy ammo to level up factions so I can get my 900000000 cloak.

I am stashing exotic and sublime engrams, and only legendary weapons. I dont care for the new ROI legendary armor, apart for ps4 exclusive sets. Legendary and sublime engrams dont decrypt to the highest light level anyway.

Edited by ZetaScorpii: 8/29/2016 8:58:27 PMI have 3 tabs of legendary weapons and armor ready to dismantle for legendary marks. I'll buy a full set of vanguard gear then start farming to upgrade from there. No sense in wasting Strange Coins on Year 2 exotics.

im not prepping at all, whats the rush?
-
I'm just going to grind when it comes out. Gives me something to do. I might save some exotic engrams for later
-
Side note: If you have a lot of Glimmer and glimmer items, I suggest purchasing ALL the gunsmith orders. Even if they are crap rolls at RoI release, each will net you 3 marks, 5 if you upgrade them. Keep in mind, this only works well if you're prepped for RoI and are planning on taking a hiatus till launch.

6 RepliesEdited by BoomerSooner51: 8/29/2016 7:56:01 PMIf you are hoarding engrams it should be for one of three reasons: 1. Exotic engrams should help with power leveling even if the gear is old gear. I haven't read anywhere that engrams will decrypt at OLD light levels. 2. To level Cryptarch several times in order to obtain new gear. 3. To use the marks to purchase new gear. You're welcome.

I'm not taking chances and waiting for ROI before farming exotic engrams with 3oc, assuming they still work as they currently do. Haven't heard otherwise.
-
I have all the exotic heavies and helmets so I'm saving those
-
22 exotic gear and 8 exotic weapons so far I still have 187 3 of coins hehe

2 RepliesYou won't get new items but you can gain light lvls hopefully.

I don't know if it'll work or not, but I don't care because I'm only saving legendary and exotic engrams so I can rank up my cryptarch when it launches.

Edited by Rev: 8/29/2016 7:26:18 PMDude you should see my vault

Nah fam too expensive im hoarding three of coins

I'm saying it might work. Knowing that the gear we have now can be infused says that maybe just maybe it might work. In the TTK it obviously didn't work because it was a jump from year 1 to 2 and any year 1 gear wasn't going to advance. This time they will. Even the April update it worked because I did it to get the zen meteor. Even if it doesn't work it's still a positive. Material and cryptarch rank up.

1 ReplyYes and running out of vault space doing so.

No but I'm saving old gear for legendary marks and I have over 500 strange coins saved up and
