Anyone Else Saving Up Engrams for Rise of Iron?
I don't know if this will work or not, but I heard that it did for TTK's April update. I have about 10 gold engrams and quite a few legendary and sublime engrams stashed in the vault and postmaster, waiting for the new expansion to turn in and get new exotics (especially warlock legs). I don't plan to cash them in immediately, but will wait until I level up a bit and then turn them in.
If it works, I'll have some shiny new stuff; if it doesn't. I'll have some exotic shards which I sorely need. Win-win.
Anyone else going to try this?
EDIT: 24 hours later, most replies are of the belief that it won't work the way it did in April, due to that being an update rather than an expansion. This may very well be, but I see nothing to lose from trying.
I'm still sticking with my plan, since even if the engrams decrypt as old gear, they [i]should[/i] (fingers crossed) be consistent with my new, higher light level. They will also rapidly boost my cryptarch level and yield new gear that way. I've even started letting blue engrams stack up a bit at the postmaster.

I am... I have 108 exotic/legendary armor engrams and 29 legendary/exotic weapon engrams. I honestly don't care if they decode into new gear or not, everything I have is 335 anyway, so worst case scenario I'll have a constant flow of marks and a bunch of rank-up packages.... There is literally nothing else I need, I have every exotic besides for the faction class items. I've also been saving all 12 of my iron banner bounties on each toon as well as three True Meaning of War bounties, 600 3oc's, and 3k motes

That's probably a smart idea, unless bungie has some workaround to prevent it

Won't work. Try edge leveling faction, cryptarch and etc. As soon as you level up you should get better gear and weapons.

Updates carried over not dlc/expansions. But go ahead and keep them as they rank you higher for packages with new stuff. Good luck

Engrams from Y1 didn't decrypt into Y2 gear because it was from an old loot table. Engrams from before (for example) the April Update, however, still decrypted into post-April Update gear because of the fact that it was apart of the same loot table. Now that Rise of Iron is coming out, Engrams from the [i]current[/i] loot table won't decrypt into gear from the Rise of Iron loot table. [spoiler]Feel free to try it, but you're much better off using them to rank up your Cryptarch now so that you can open the package once Rise of Iron comes out.[/spoiler]

I can not confirm , but I heard the engrams will not decrypt new weapons but will decrypt at higher light, and as other people have said you can use to upgrade the cryptarch, i have 32 exotics engrams and about 60 legendary, also good way for storing legendary marks

7 RepliesEverybody is pointing out that engrams didn't transition from Y1 to Y2, yet that might just be due to the transition from the Ascend system to Infusion - Y2 loot is fundamentally different from Y1 loot. Since they're sticking to Infusion, it's very possible that current engrams might move up too, unless they've said otherwise.

BTW this is not work when TTK launched. This only works for updates such as the December update and April update. This will not work for expansion such as TTK and ROI.

No, no no. Bungie is not stupid. They will probably make a patch so old engrams don't turn into new items. They did this for House of Wolves. The engrams will probably account for [u]higher leveled items[/u] but they won't decode into newer stuff. I have 19 exotic engrams and 30 legendary engrams. I would be surprised if any of that stuff became new items.

I'm saving them all so I can gain ranks with the cryptarch and get some new gear in the rank up package. I will try to get all my other faction ranks just before a rank up if I can too.

It will not work, most people doing this are doing it to level up their cryptarch, and the engrams you get from leveling him will be new,

No you won't get new items from engrams BUT they already said they are keeping the infusion. System so all the things you could get can be of a higher light you just won't get any if the new stuff out of them

1 ReplySeems to be a lot of people in this thread that are either new, or didn't notice the precedent that has been set and followed the last couple years. You WILL NOT get new items. If it were an [i]update[/i] that was introducing, or bringing forward older weapons, like the April update, you would have a chance at rolling new stuff. Doesn't work with whole new expansions. However, you'll upgrade Cryptarch rank and replenish your exotic shard inventory. OP, please edit your post with this info and save everyone some confusion!
