Im no stranger to FPS's but I haven't played a fast game like this since quake 3. What difficulty would you recommend to give me a good challenge for a first run? Is ultra violence a good choice?
Edit: Thank you all for your thoughts and advice. UV sounds like the right fit for me. The difficulty can be adjusted mid game if things get too hectic anyway (but I don't see that happening yet). I haven't had much time to play since posting this but plan on spending the rest of the evening kicking demon ass. First couple of levels were fun AF though. Most fun I've had in an FPS campaign for a long time. :)

1 ReplyI did Hurt Me Plenty first, I always do Normal first to get a feel for the game.

Doom is unlike many of the games released in the past few years. Doom focuses not on multiplayer (it has one) but focuses on the campaign. Almost all of the reviews and people i have asked said they love it, and it definitely was better than they thought it would be. So it just goes to show, underestimate every game, and then when there is a really good game it feels even better.

1 ReplyEdited by Bitter Mercy: 5/21/2016 5:01:54 AMIf you've just come off a binge on the originals and play on UV, you're going to think the Doom Marine's suit of armour is made out of a milky biscuit. Good luck either way, hopefully you'll get to see the Cacodemons laugh at you when they kill you or hit you, because it's hilarious. Edit: English

Edited by Lord Headass: 5/22/2016 6:07:19 AMSame here. Only was able to get to mission 3 tonight, plan on doing more tomorrow. Playing it on hurt me plenty because I want to play it a little more casually. I'll probably go back and play it on nightmare sometime in the future.

Ultra Violence is the most fun, but gets quite difficult.

2 RepliesUltra violence is a pretty good start if you are into these kind of games. I am an experienced DOOM player and I had some trouble with it at ultra violence. The two difficulties below that might be a bit too easy. Nightmare would be a real mess, and ultra nightmare does not unlock right away and is really not good for a first play through.

5 RepliesHurt me plenty was pretty challenging. You've got to move around at all times and switch between different weapons. Upgrade the shotgun first with the grenade launcher type thing, you'll thank me later. I always seemed to forget about the chainsaw and bfg until it was too late. Take your time and explore everything, you'll get a ton of upgrades and do the rune challenges, they are incredibly useful.
