Analysis of the top 100 Trials of Osiris players
I wanted to see if the April update had changed the meta in PvP.
Methodology
- I copied the list of the current top 100 Trials of Osiris players (The list changes every week) from Destiny tracker. I then cut and pasted each player into Libre Office's equivalent of Microsoft's Excel spreadsheet. I then went to Bungie's website and looked at each player's classes, subclasses and weapon loadout.
- Year 1 weapons and low light blue weapons were ignored (e.g. VOG weapons, Thorn etc) and were entered in as 'not applicable' (n/a).
- Classes / characters that were 'new' and did not have a fully-populated skill tree were also ignored. N.B – - Not all top 100 players have 3 characters.
- Some players just have one or have lower light duplicate class guardians. These do not factor into the spreadsheet either.
- Toughness / Speed / Battle recovery settings were included in plain english rather than using codex etc.
- The name Harrowed from Hard Mode Raid was ignored.
The layout of the spreadsheet
The first page is all the data of the top 100 players.
The more interesting bits are located at the bottom of the spreadsheet, where you will see different tabs/pages. The tabs / pages act like filters – so you gradually see a more focused picture of classes, subclasses and weapons.
Limitations of this research
It is an amateur attempt by someone with a visual learning disability. Data needs verifying by someone with good eyesight.
Data within Destiny is dynamic. It is not static but constantly changing and updating.
The perks / rolls on weapons and armor might skew the data.
100 players is a small data sample.
The suggested findings may not enhance the chances of getting to the Lighthouse.
I could use the same weapons and armor as the top players and still come bottom. :(
Every class and subclass can reach the lighthouse.

Great research effort guardian! Well done!
-
Wow! Well done!
-
I'm just impressed you put this all together
-
Thanks for your hard work compiling!
-
Thanks mate. That made for interesting reading.

Good job. As you can see from the work you have done, statistics involves a lot of data. Compiling it all in a manner that other can understand is the name of the game. I have a graduate level education that relies heavily on research and analysis of statistical data. My only criticism is how you derived and explained your percentages. At work, I always include standard deviations and variances with datasets like these. I also make hypotheses and test them.
in no way am I motivated to do all this for destiny. At no point am I ever motivated to do this much work just for a video game. I commend you for your dedication!
Nice work man!

5 RepliesIt is an amateur attempt but still better than most, I commend you. A few things that confuse me: If 98% of the top 100 use a hunter then how can there be 70 Titans? 98% of 100 is 98, leaving only 2 other players not using hunters. You may have cleared this up somewhere and if so I apologize. Again, keep up the research. It's the only way to truly understand anything of this nature

Where is the Xbox one

1 ReplySeriously if all the Destiny data crunchers out there all worked to stabilize the economy, maybe just maybe there could be hope for the future :p
-
13 RepliesI find it hard to believe that the most used exotic in Trials on sunsingers is voidfang. Maybe in any non-elimination playlist, but not Trials. Are you looking at their gear that just happens to be equipped at the time of observation, but which is not necessarily indicative of what they were using during Trials?

Oh reader mine, it seems the truth has come out. You Guardians have now fully recognized the best subclass, in its weakest state yet. They call me a BladeDancer by Trade, Oh reader mine...
