Does anyone remember defeating Atheon back in September 2014?
I do.
The best feeling this game has ever given me. Nothing has topped it. Vault of Glass was most definitely the hardest thing that existed. (when it first came out)

EDIT: Just wanted to point out something (nearly nobody will agree with me). I think that the way you earned loot in Vault of Glass, easily tops the way you earn loot in Kings Fall.
I found myself coming back week after week to finally get myself that one gun or armour piece I was missing. It was an addictive grind and I loved it.
Now, in Kings Fall I sometimes come back one week trying to get something I've gotten a million times, but with a different number. That's the problem with Kings Fall, it doesn't give you enough incentive. You're just looking for numbers. Back in year one, being level 29 compared to level 30 was a massive difference. Now, there's literally the tiniest difference between 334 and 335. So why do Kings Fall when you're 334? There's not enough incentive. But if you were 29, you HAD to go back into that raid and strive for that armour piece.
EDIT 2: It's also really nice to see how many legitimate veterans there are, please also don't start that argument. This is a place of nostalgia. And it's amazing seeing everyone's stories
EDIT 3: What about the very first nightfall? The Devils Lair. That was more of a raid than Crotas End is. I think everyone felt like a god when they completed that nightfall

I miss it so much.... Each week me and my friends did our best to get to 30.... Some were luckier than other - I was 2nd out of the 6 of us to get 30 I'm the only one who plays now

I is funny that all miss vog but keep playing kings fall which is inferrior as they say. But it seems that the loot take precedence and defines what you play. Otherwise we would just fire all of us vog, it is still there, isn't it?

If only they had just buffed them way back when, we wouldn't be dealing with metas today. I agree with the gear. Hate the infusion system. I miss the old days when you knew you'd just be high level when you got the drop, and you wanted it because light level mattered. I never even knew about the cheese until it was patched. I was with one random group who pushed the Templar off once, but always did Atheon legit. Was a great feeling beating that.

I totally agree w/ you. Even if it was frustrating sometimes (most of it) then loot drop was better back then; like the Nightfall and the Heroic strikes; and the to earn rep etc

I remember pushing the Templar and Atheon off and getting the Gally on my first one. ;)

Playing through and beating the Vault of glass in the beginning was hands down one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. Epic as -blam!-. The reason Bungie still has a foot in the game, barely, is what the 6 man raids have brought to FPS.

I loved vog. When you got your first fatebringer. When it counted in year 1, that was a great feeling. I disagree with you on crotas end. I loved that raid for the fact you could solo it. If avfriend wasnt on or you didnt wanna go on lfg...no problems. I actually got my flawless raider from crota solo 😂 that was amazing to not even relise until the raid ended 😎

VoG was awesome because it keep you on your toes but you had fun doing it. The rewards were almost always good, but the challenge without cheesing was a good one.

I was always the guy who left at the gorgans while everybody was grabbing the exotic chest 3x. Noone would ever notice because everyone was leaving and coming back. A couple minutes later when they started wondering where I was I'd say, "I'm at gatekeepers already, join on me"

I didn't really start raiding until October. By then it was much easier as there was a strategy in place amongst the community. Pushing him off the ledge had already been patched, so people had figured out how to beat him legit (standing together in the bubble with icebreakers). Still, it was hard as fvck. I unfortunately didn't have an icebreaker. Plus I was a "useless hunter" when most raid teams only wanted warlocks and one or 2 Titans. But I got it done, and by November I was an expert doing it 3x a week. What I really miss about those days tho were the rewards. Everyone remembers getting the vex, timepiece, fatebringer, etc. The rewards made the time spent worth it. Plus every once in a while somebody would get a gjally. Those moments were amazing. Now exotics are a dime a dozen and aren't really that exotic. Raid gear all sucks. It's just not the same.

Unfortunately no, but I did get to run it blind with a group of other newbs, so we had to learn the whole thing. We did YouTube gorgons maze eventually, but that was all. Still a lot of fun.

4 RepliesFirst time my team got atheon i was lucky and got chatterwhite + the last word (way before xur sold it) + timebreaker. Well, i considered by self lucky. It took 75 more raids to get that raid helmet

2 RepliesI know I'm not the only one who has had their whole fireteam die except that one really great player in the group while Atheon was at a sliver of health and literally drop to their knees and prayed and chanted "c'mon c'mon c'mon..." and then going absolutely nuts when Atheon started flaming and twitching to death because Clutch McGreatness pulled through. Man.... Talk about getting the nerves worked up.

I'll never forget the first time I made it through the vault. I didn't get very many good items until we meet Atheon and that when he fell I saw it pop up on my screen Hard Light My friends didn't talk to me for a while
