It's always something. Always something considered over powered. And the solution everyone jumps to is to nerf that thing.
Nerf, nerf, nerf. It will just make people target the weapons/abilities which have been left untouched because they were fine before the nerfing of their competitors.
An example:
MIDA Multitool. Throughout year 1, it was considered underwhelming. Some thought it needed a buff. It was just an average scout which made you run fast.
Bungie nerf handcannons and buff pulses, scouts and autos in the 2.0 update. MIDA is basically unchanged. Scouts start to get popular, people request a year 2 variant of MIDA Multitool.
They get it. Everyone snatches it as soon as possible and go straight into the crucible with it. A sudden spike in usage of the Multitool causes some to assume it is over powered, just because it killed them in PvP. Everyone hops on the band wagon and begin calling for the MIDA to be nerfed.
It's not killing any faster than before, but because it is being frequently used people just assume it is more powerful than it needs to be. The sole reason people think it's overpowered is because they got its previous competitors nerfed.
Wipe out the wolf, and the deer will thrive. Too many deer become a problem, so a cull might be a solution, or, just reintroduce the wolf.
So I request this. Rather than reducing the power of everything until they are near useless, I suggest asking Bungie to buff the things which can't compete with the "overpowered" guns/abilities.
Buff fusion rifles, sidearms and shotguns. Snipers are no longer overpowered.
Buff Voidwalker, Defender, Bladedancer and Sunbreaker. Sunsingers and Stormcallers are no longer overpowered.
Buff low/medium RoF auto rifles. High RoF autos (DoP) are no longer overpowered.
Disagree if you will, just don't use your anonymity as a means to allow for a derogatory or violent response.
Edit:
Concerns over power creep: there should always be nerfs to prevent this, we don't want CoD style ttk's in Destiny, but this post aimed to show the crippling effect too many nerfs are having on the game.
It's startling to me to hear people think snipers are overpowered as nobody really thought so until shotguns were nerfed, for example.
Here's hoping they don't nerf things too harshly in the update, but we'll all find out later on today.
Thanks for all of the kind responses, it's been great reading all of your replies :)
Edited by Black Howling: 4/5/2016 6:20:49 PMIt's like giving a kid a giant balloon filled with helium, then deflating it and letting some hobo fill it with his booze breath. Why you cryin?! Why you go back to playing with those old sticks when you have a balloon?!

2 RepliesThe nerfs get annoying.
-
I'm just sick and tired of nerfs affecting everything even in pve
-
3 RepliesI couldn't agree more, unfortunately bunghole believes the rotating meta will keep the game "fresh". In my opinion, they should revert back to vanilla destiny and adjust accordingly. We the guardians need to make a stand. BUFFS NOT NERFS
-
1 ReplyWhy can't we just have crucible only weapons? Then those moaning cry babies can just nerf and ruin their own stuff. Works for me.
-
2 RepliesSome day the starting gun will be OP.

One of The reason I left destiny Pvp
-
There will always be weapon and class tweaking that's every game with a pvp element.
-
4 RepliesI completely agree. The only thing that needs to be changed about snipers is that they all have the same Aim Assist value.
-
I'm hoping the April update is a reworking of everything and not just another nerf patch. THAT'S what we need.

5 RepliesEdited by zz2dog1: 4/5/2016 3:40:48 PMI dont blame bungie for anything i blame annoying stuipd players that are so bad at the game they cry nerf about evreything. bungie is doing evreything pretty good its just players whining all the time about dying. try shutin the hell up and get better at the game . this is to all those who think nerfing is the answer
-
No it wont, too many kids complain Kid: 0mG!1 I G0t K1LlED bY (insert weapon here) PW3AsE nERF bUNg0!11
-
Buff shotguns back to where they were before 2nd nerf. Note to O.P. - re-introduction of the red wolf in eastern NC was a failure of epic proportions with ramifications that will last many years into the future. Just FYI.
-
For every nerf we need a buff.

9 RepliesEdited by REVIVE PHARMER: 4/5/2016 12:57:32 PMPvP: destroying Destiny, one nerf at a time. Don't nerf anything, just cut the garbage PvP out of this game. Destiny will be better for it.

5 RepliesI used to complain about all the bitching and moaning that goes on around here, but not anymore. You know why? Because its not so much the 8-13 year old's on here that complain so much, its on Bungie due to their catering to the bitching and moaning on here. They don't have to do anything. The guns, armor, classes, subclasses, missions, etc., were all fine before Bungie started messing with them. Now we're at a point where both PvE and PvP players suffer, and it'll only get worse as Bungie makes it their mission to respond to every little "OMG nerf/buff" post that they read. And I don't buy the deal where Bungie uses their stats to decide what's changed or not. I'm sure some programmer comes to the weekly meetings and complains about the fusion rifle they dev'd isn't getting used by anybody so they demand a buff on it, right. If Bungie keeps up with the changes this game will go down like Titanfall did with all the stupid changes Respawn made.

1 ReplyEdited by ElBambino: 4/5/2016 3:01:33 PMI feel its also 3 problems; 1-Nerf, the word indicates a weapon or power should be severely weakened w 2-OP, the exact opposite of Nerf but still the same result as Nerf. 3-Bungie's lack of of subtlety in addressing PvP problems with weapons/powers. Their approach is to use a sledgehammer and not a tweezer. The second half of Bungie's problem was not separating PvE and PvP from the start. That's my 2 dinars at least.
-
Music to my ears actually. I've been in the buff rather than nerf camp since year 1.
-
BUFF HANDCANNONS!
-
1 ReplyI believe 1 day we will kill each other with tickles and that will be op so it gets nerfed to talking but that will also be OP so we will just stand there but that will also be OP so our characters get deleted but everyone is gonna cry that it is to OP so bungie just deletes the game forever
-
Most of this community needs to just grow up: LIFE IS NOT FAIR!
-
Nerfing does more harm than good, and when people yell "Nerf" be very careful because when Bungie does do it they usually overdo it.
-
A big problem is the fact that they make a ridiculous amount of changes at once with very limited testing actually done, and also that PvE and PvP aren't separate game modes yet they still make changes affect both even though 99% of them are for PvP.

1 ReplyEdited by Pocket Fox: 4/5/2016 3:56:54 PMNormally I would disagree. Sometimes things are so obviously unbalanced that they need to be brought into line, like y1 Thorn & TLW, Vex, Suros, fusions at the beginning of y1, shotguns towards the end of year 2, Hopscotch Pilgrim, etc. But I'm going to agree with you this time. I don't think any gun is obviously unbalanced like the above examples. Snipers are powerfull because they're supposed to be powerful. Mida is the same as it's always been, it's fine. TLW and Doctrine are powerful at close range, but that's what they were designed for. I agree that the answer this time is to buff things. -buff fusions and side arms to better compete at TLW/Doctrine range, as well as reduce sniper usage. -buff mid/low rof auto rifles to better compete with high rof auto rifles. -buff mid/low rof pulse rifles to better compete with high rof pulse rifles and scouts at mid range (they over-nerfed the range) -buff hand cannon ADS accuracy BUT NOT RANGE! -Scouts, shotguns, and snipers are fine IMO.

2 RepliesSounds like a lot of players are salty that their Op weapons got nerfed and can't get those easy kills anymore. Next up on the chopping block is snipers. Players just need to deal with nerfs. Not one or a couple of weapons should give players an overwhelming advantage.
-
Nope. Not as long as pvp exists
