So Bungie just posted this to help hype the new update
Taken-themed
Gear
Taken-themed Gear can also be earned, and a full set of Desolate Armor will unlock a unique Taken "Shiver" emote.
Sterling Treasure
Both Chroma and Taken-themed gear can be found in Sterling Treasures. Three Sterling Treasures can be obtained each week by visiting the Postmaster after each weekly reset, successfully completing one Level 41 Prison of Elders activity, and completing one match in the featured Weekly Crucible Playlist.
Additional Sterling Treasures can also be purchased via Tess Everis in the Eververse Trading Company stores

How many times did Bungie swear up and down that they would never ever sell gear that offered an advantage to players? That it would only ever be cosmetic in nature?

Destiny is entirely RNG. Have you not figured that out yet? They give you multiple ways to earn the Treasure. I think they rattled off at least 3 or 4. Just Grind grind grind if it means anything to you. Otherwise who cares they are just glorified glowing skins anyways.

Edited by Camnew: 3/31/2016 4:14:19 PMThe stuff that you can buy is the exact same stuff you can earn in-game. You can earn three sterling treasures every week. Or you can buy as many as you want. The armor you get from the treasures requires another armor piece that's higher light for infusion, so it doesn't really help you at all. Oh and it's ARMOR. It does almost nothing for you except raise your light and look nice.

2 RepliesIt can all still be earned, but it comes at 3 defense from the sterling treasure, arguably the only advantage is the rep gain packs but those are completely random so it's not pay to win whatsoever since none of those pieces of gear actually help your progression in the game
