Destiny is done. Proof: Bungie has no long term plans

We now know the original destiny was cut up and restructured a year before launch. We now know The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King content was all originally in vanilla destiny. Bungie took a $60 game and sold it for $160 once all the expansions were bought (and it still sucks). The worst part? Bungie lied to us repeatedly, telling us they didn't rework the story; that this was new content. Then there were all the ridiculous mistakes, buffs, nerfs, more lies and terrible public relations throughout. The biggest lies include: Deej 12/2014 "We don't want you to look at your favorite gear and decide it's no longer relevant. We will honor your time spent grinding and earning that gear" when aetheric light was announced. Or the latest lie: "We don't do Skill Based Match Making." ... "Ok, we do use SBMM, but we've stopped. Honest." We then find out Destiny 2 has been pushed back indefinitely and there are no future plans beyond a lame doubles pvp valentine's event. This is after Halloween and Shitty Racing League, which were just excuses to get you to buy silver. Two days later, Harold Ryan, the previous CEO is fired. Protip: when a CEO "steps down", you know he's been fired if the new CEO says a few words. If the old CEO truly stepped down, he says a few words, not the new guy. So it's clear destiny is done. There are no new plans or bungie would already be telling us about them, hyping them, telling you to pre-order them. All they had planned was tiny live events. That's all we've heard about since September, 5 months ago. No wonder the old CEO was fired. So by now the desticles are screaming "omg there [sic] making destiny 2! Ehrmagerd!" ... are they? Where have they stated that? They haven't. It's pure speculation that they're making destiny 2. Plus, even if they were, it's been delayed to 2017, at the earliest. Sad truth is bungie doesn't have a clue. All the talent has left long ago. Look at recent history, this company couldn't even write a contract to keep the voice talent of Peter Dinklage for 2015, blaming "stupid Hollywood reasons". ... Seriously? Grow the -blam!- up and do your homework! Companies are able to retain talent for decades, you just need a competent team. I suspect Dinklage saw how amateur bungie is and just got fed up, like Joe Staten. ... and that's it. Bungie is so amateur they had no plan other than "let's lie, cheat and steal, sell a $60 game for $160 and then. ... ??? Profit!" If I'm wrong, show me where bungie has given any indication that this supposed 10 year plan is real, and being implemented. ... Oh that's right, you can't. EDIT: I write these posts because I love what Destiny could be. I call bungie on their bullshit so they know they're not fooling anyone, and that they'll be held responsible.

  • So. The words is that the engine is hard to develop with. Consequently, a lot of time and effort is required to create new content. This is surely the problem. It's a bummer but there's probably no easy solution. Spend time creating DLC or spend time creating tools to improve workflow - so that future DLC can be created quicker. (Maybe even a new engine?). The player numbers must be nose diving. If they could get new content out, I think they would.

  • I still find it hilarious that people defend this game after, we re-leveled up all the exotics we had, then we had to gain etheric light to level them up, THENNNNNN........................... THEY TOOK OUR EXOTICS OUT OF THE GAME AND SLOWLY GAVE US BACK THE SAME GUNS WE ALREADY HAD ONLY TO LEVEL THEM AGAIN LOL! Yes capitals means emphasis! I mean i dropped the game for three months and played ib this week out of boredom, but man, there really is no point in defending this game. Worst part is many of us loved it.

    • Sooo Destiny 2 pushed back? Where's the official source of information on that? Some guy on Reddit claiming to work at Bungie is not an official source - so lets skip that.

      • I personally hope they don't make a destiny 2, I've been that way after the first 6 months of Destinys release. All the time and effort will TRULY go down the drain. (Unless you can transfer characters and gear). Just keep adding stuff, I say...but then again that will not please anyone, because half the community thinks it's a race to complete and gain everything. Which leaves them wanting more and that's when the bitching starts.

To say they have no long-term plan is to say that a massive team and at least TWO massive companies that all have millions of dollars on the line here can't come up with a simple set of goals. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard, well not THE most considering someone once told me Dumbo can't fly but that is beyond the point. IF they fired the CEO which NONE of us know, AND you hate the current state of the game- than maybe them getting new management would be a GOOD thing, and reflect again that all these ppl with jobs and tons of money of investing wont let one bad cog mess up those entire machine that is Destiny. Besides, you can sit here and say they are ripping us off by holding back and making original content DLC- but if you look at the state of the Vanilla content, maybe that was for the best. Considering how most ppl left upon hitting 20 when the game first dropped- do you think people would be happy with ALL the content we've had for the last year or so being just as 'bland' as the OG story? No you wouldn't. Each DLC has added to and improved the games' previous formula of doing things, that paird with our growing and changing demands for this game- how could you not blame them for constantly if not drastically re-visioning theirs plans for this game? With all of that ASIDE, I gotta agree with everything supernova has already stated here. This game feeds off us, and we gotta do all we can to help make this game a worthwhile and fun experience. We just gotta give GOOD feedback on how to improve the game instead of this hate/pseudo-conspicary speeches about 'evil companies like Bungie'.

          •
We now know the original destiny was cut up and restructured a year before launch.
We don't really. We have a pile of allegations from an anonymous Reddit source and a follow-on story by Kotaku about Marty's departure. We have never gotten any actual evidence of the so called supercut. There are old assets that would allude to major changes, but that's not unusual for any major game. Especially one that's ongoing.
We now know The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King content was all originally in vanilla destiny.
According to Kotaku.
Bungie took a $60 game and sold it for $160 once all the expansions were bought (and it still sucks).
$140 if you didn't buy the expansions separately. I agree though, Destiny is a lot of money for a little content. Unless you're a totally obsessive completionist.
The worst part? Bungie lied to us repeatedly, telling us they didn't rework the story; that this was new content.
You can't have a lie, if there's no official truth. So many thing were taken out of context, especially the whole part about being able to explore everything you see. They specifically said "someday," they never said that'd be a feature at launch.
Then there were all the ridiculous mistakes, buffs, nerfs, more lies and terrible public relations throughout.
Buffs and nerfs are a common thing for a game like this. Granted, I agree that they did a pretty lame job of it. I don't know how Bungie was during the Halo years, but back in the 90s they were even more tight lipped than they are now. We're still finding out about things that happened prior to Myth.
The biggest lies include: Deej 12/2014 "We don't want you to look at your favorite gear and decide it's no longer relevant. We will honor your time spent grinding and earning that gear" when aetheric light was announced.
There was an implied year one in that statement. We got to keep all our goodies for a year and ultimately upgrade them to the current light level.
Or the latest lie: "We don't do Skill Based Match Making." ... "Ok, we do use SBMM, but we've stopped. Honest."
I don't recall them ever saying that they didn't use SBMM. For me as a more casual player, the changes around the TKK iron banner launch made the game far more enjoyable. Things are a weird mix now, but definitely a lot better than whatever they did around the holidays. Connection based matchmaking is part of why I never enjoyed CoD or various other online shooters. What's the point of playing if you're going to be matched with people who roll around with 5.0 k/d ratio, then bitch at the people who make their high k/d possible (that's me, the scrub with the negative k/d).
We then find out Destiny 2 has been pushed back indefinitely and there are no future plans beyond a lame doubles pvp valentine's event. This is after Halloween and Shitty Racing League, which were just excuses to get you to buy silver.
2017 isn't indefinitely (probably spring 2017, if I was going to guess). Also, they have very specifically said that we'd be getting a big update around March or something like that. The current seasonal live events will keep coming back I assume. Also, the only reason we think Destiny 2 was coming out in September at all, was because of a contract that is considerably out of date and hasn't been followed since last September. Why are we assuming that that contract is still relevant? That said, I'm super bummed that we aren't getting any more raids. Kings Fall has nothing left to offer me but a few more points of light.
Two days later, Harold Ryan, the previous CEO is fired. Protip: when a CEO "steps down", you know he's been fired if the new CEO says a few words. If the old CEO truly stepped down, he says a few words, not the new guy.
CEOs don't really have all that much to do with the company. The board is concerned about profits, not content. CEOs come and go regularly and even when they are fired, they get a swanky benefits package. It was Jason Jones that allegedly threw the supercut under the bus. He being the last 90s Bungie employee that I'm aware of.
So it's clear destiny is done. There are no new plans or bungie would already be telling us about them, hyping them, telling you to pre-order them.
Bungie has never told us about anything more than a month out. It's how they keep their deadlines. If they don't promise anything, they can't miss anything.
All they had planned was tiny live events. That's all we've heard about since September, 5 months ago.
That's all they promised. And so far, they've been fairly well received. I assumed SRL would suck and I ended up enjoying it. I'm still not a big fan of Trials and I do IB for the loot. But these little timed events have been enough to get me on for a week or so. That is of course my own feelings, I know many others are super frumpy about them.
So by now the desticles are screaming "omg there [sic] making destiny 2! Ehrmagerd!" ... are they? Where have they stated that? They haven't. It's pure speculation that they're making destiny 2. Plus, even if they were, it's been delayed to 2017, at the earliest.
Bungie has quite clearly stated that there is a long term plan. They also specifically stated that work on Destiny 2 had started back in December of 2014. What that plan is and when Destiny 2 (or another big expansion) comes out is a big unknown. But to say that there's no plan is simply untrue.
Sad truth is bungie doesn't have a clue. All the talent has left long ago.
Bungie never had a clue. ODS was a pretty lame game. Minotaur was multiplayer only in an era that didn't know what to do with that. Pathways Into Darkness was trying really hard to be a FPSRPG and failed on both fronts. Marathon was delayed for months because they kept playing multiplayer matches in the office and had to redo the entire solo campaign. Myth was an interesting take on RTS but didn't have mass appeal (they also started getting cocky about then). Halo was when Bungie "sold out" and started being dicks to their existing (pre-halo) fan base. And now you have Destiny. It's so much like Bungie it hurts. Hurts in a weird way that longtime fans are very familiar with. I do agree though, the "talent" left with Double Aught software. Greg Kirkpatrick was the bomb. I'm still bummed that they never finished Duality.
I'm honestly baffled that they hired on so much talent and then squandered it. The part of the supercut story that I do believe is that the game was reworked to be more open ended and gave players more freedom in the main campaign. The original Destiny was likely another Halo, which would have been great for Halo/Marathon fans, but it wouldn't have been something they could really push as a long term MMO-like game. I'm glad they made it more MMO-like, but I do see where that became a problem. As Bungie's early weekly updates included things like, not knowing what PVE/PVP was... It's like they had no idea what they had gotten themselves into. Which I believe to be the case. Edit: And they never planned on having to bring those people back again and again when the original lines were recorded.
... and that's it. Bungie is so amateur they had no plan other than "let's lie, cheat and steal, sell a $60 game for $160 and then. ... ??? Profit!"
Again, I'm not totally disagreeing with you, but I'm not seeing all the lies and misleading that so many keep claiming. Even with those early E3 videos and Vidocs, people extrapolated so much from those that was never there.
If I'm wrong, show me where bungie has given any indication that this supposed 10 year plan is real, and being implemented.
Again, Harold Ryan specifically said that Destiny 2 was in the works a year and a half ago.
EDIT: I write these posts because I love what Destiny could be. I call bungie on their bullshit so they know they're not fooling anyone, and that they'll be held responsible.
I too love what Destiny could be, but I think we could all be a little more constructive. Seriously though, most of the people who are fooling others are those on the streams and right here on the forum (and Reddit). There's so much speculation and misinformation, it's hard to keep track of what Bungie actually said or what rumor was true or not.

All I'm gonna say is things are rough in this game right now. I have had a lot of nice memories in Destiny. The problem is I am starting to realize they are just that, memories, and I am no longer living it.
