Coming from an FPS fan since Goldeneye 007, here's my input.
Most competitive playlist in most other good FPS games have no radar. Halo (MLG), CoD, Battlefield (Hardcore), etc.
The most competitive game type in Destiny is obviously ToO (whether you consider it competitive or not), this should be added.
If this gets enough attention as my other thread that got deleted (lol), then maybe it'll be considered.
I, personally, think this is a must. It would really add to the experience.
Edit: People complain about snipers camping already. What a better way to flank a camper than to remove radar?
Or people camping spawns, it never works anyway. All you have to do is wait 2 minutes and capture the point for a victory. Done it multiple times with radar.
I literally cannot think of a single reason that removing radar will hurt Trials. All of the reasons you're giving me don't make sense.
Edit 2: If you don't play Trials, or you're terrible at it, why are you replying?
This is for ToO only. People are acting like I'm meaning to remove it from all game types. No, I don't think that's a good idea.
Camping your spawn in Trials for longer than 2 minutes loses the round, simple as that.
Edit 3: if you don't know, or understand map control... Don't reply.
A good team will control the map. If you're camping with no radar, you will not win against a good team that knows how to do just that.

Games would take AGES especially on awful maps like Momento.

9 Repliesyou must not be very familiar with the competitive inferno scene in this game, and how those games play out. i happen to be very familiar with the highest level of inferno available in destiny. here's how it plays out, literally to the t: if you spawn A on every single map without exception, you stay there. you form a triangle and you do not move from A. you set up camp and call out every single small or large thing you see. now what happens if you don't get A spawn? you fight to get A spawn, then just resume what was stated above. but what happens if you play a team that has the same exact philosophy on playing off radar, but they think C has the best angles? then they just camp C spawn and do the exact same thing. the game times out eventually. im all about removing the radar in this game, but first you have to completely remove shotguns, slow down top sprint speed, and remove stuff like bink and shadestep. the current inferno meta is the hunter with radiant dance machines and mida multi tool with full agility. if you do not run this combo, you cannot play against these people. that is not balance

3 RepliesYou'll triple the length of rounds. What's the point in that?
-
2 RepliesNo because I don't want total MLG and Conpetitive play I a very casual game. In not gonna make call outs everywhere I go.
-
2 RepliesNo way. The matches would take too long because people hide the entire game. This always happens in inferno skirmish. Imagine all 5 rounds going into overtime and having to capture the objective...
-
3 RepliesCounter Strike is the most competitive fps out there and it has a radar. I do think that trials should have radar but it should only show other players near you when they shoot and not all the time
-
2 RepliesRemove heavy round tbh. I like the no radar though
-
7 RepliesOr just have the game turn off your radar when you equip a sniper
-
1 ReplyI really never understood how not having a radar makes it more competitive.
-
18 RepliesHave you played any inferno modes? It would just be a big camp fest
-
1 ReplyBeen playing fps since before Goldeneye, do not remove radar! Good players can use the radar to their advantage, I doubt many people play on the inferno playlists!
-
2 RepliesI'm a fan of the radar, in my eyes it stops camping and cheap kills from hiding. If you both know each other are there then it comes down to who shoots the best. It can be a bit unfair when it's 3v1 though and you can't escape but overall I prefer it.

Edited by Notorious GIB: 1/9/2016 11:04:09 PMHalo used to run no radars. Now there are radars. CoD has always had radar. But having no radar in trials would be awful IMO. I was watching tefty stream the other day and tried to play inferno skirmish, and he played these guys that literally just hid once they got the lead. Building up supers, and when they ran by them, they would super him. I say a big hell no to no radars in trials. Destiny is a game that needs radar. You could do it in halo because you could hear footsteps, switching guns, etc. (also its a little harder to hear footsteps in BO3 and Halo 5 now). No footsteps, or switching of guns can be heard really in crucible (unless you pull out a sword). Thats my two cents at least.

Agree

Camping would be atrocious
-
I most definitely agree. In my opinion radar is a crutch. That's why it's important to pay attention to everything you hear. It's how I get easy assassinations in swat. They don't pay attention to the sound.

Would be a good twist, would really need good communication.

5 Repliescod and halo have always had radar...

Edited by PROCK7: 1/9/2016 9:03:46 PMI'm not a trials guy or a pvp player except for IB. I do have friends who go flawless each week and here was their wish list for a harder mode: Primary only (no secondary or heavy ammo). No radar. Constant map rotations as opposed to one map all weekend. That forces constant change in strategy. Limit revive or have longer delay. Edit: One did mention using some of the PoE or NF modifiers like trickle, airborne/grounded, etc.
-
I say they should at least try it for one week, if it's good then keep it, if not then don't use it
-
Sniper campers would be replaced with shotgun campers and there'd still be sniper campers, you'd just have one less way to know they're there. In most games I'd say no radar leads to sloppier play, more camping, and doesn't reward quick kills as much. I'm not s fan of the motion detector radars in halo and destiny, only showing up when you take a shot seems to work better. If the want to keep the motion detector, then they should probably adjust it to have better forward line of sight range than side and rear range.
-
They should but before they apply it to trials give out a weak of elimination with no radars and afrer the match the players vote if the radar is good for trials or not (one vote for each player). This way we get use to it and if it is a bad idea (which i don't think it is) we can just vote no.
-
I think this should be another mode of trials that would offer much better rewards
-
Honestly I think removing radar would make it way more competitive as people would have to rely on simple skill when suddenly approached by an enemy. I get the use of radar in a game where the player has high technology, so maybe remove radar in Trials and another playlist only,
-
Even give the option to vote it out on the loading screen. If both teams hit X then theres no radar, if only one team hits X the radar remains
