Because otherwise we'd all be tier 5 with old gear. It's pretty hilarious if you ignore how shitty it is.

First off, I would like to say I agree with your frustration, it was a big shock for myself and others I play with, think I got a theory on this though. I believe they (Bungie) probably feel that Guardian power building isn't matching up with their end game and have cut everyone down at the knees too sort of reset everyone in favour of their new levelling progression via armour,class items, etc. if they had their crap together at the start then it wouldn't even be a topic we would have to discuss but unfortunately we are currently a wee bit "hobbled" compared to our pre-2.0 selves. I don't care for the move either but every move they have made is about extending game play and one of their favorite things to do to accomplish this is take away or nerf the stuff we already have. Look at the first year weapon perks for example, some of the nerf percentages are absolutely ludicrous. I would put money on any new second year perks to come out to be situational or needing a set criteria to be met before the perk becomes active. They don't seem to like the full time goodies as much. Another thing, as for the 2.0 weapon balancing? It's a joke. Please no one take this as an attack on their favorite weapons or liking or disliking of 2.0. My meaning is that I tried it all, feels not so bad. Using hard light actually put a smile on my face a couple of times but all the while I can't help feel "So what?".....this is just sauce and dressing for the purchase of the meal (make folks want to buy in). I can't help but have a feeling as to not let myself be "happy" with 2.0. It's this games quarterly flavour in my opinion. What will the next DLC's (after TTK) set of nerfs and perks bring? Who will it make happy? Me? You? Almost hard to care sometimes. Like playing the game and the social interaction but really disappointed in their handling of a lot of things.

Scaling back gear stats is to get ready for more stat options on more types if gear. Ghost shells, Class items and Relics all have Stats on them. Also Armor will have selectable perks that boost a stat as well.

Its because the amount of light is too low for your level. Being 34 it would probably take 200-210 to give higher stat values. When ttk cums out you should be able to get armor with higher stats and light

I was noticing that. Does that mean level 34 is the same as level 1? If so this is definitive proof that we are but two days away from completing Destiny's Beta! So happy for people who buy the game after Tuesday and get to experience it for the first time not $140 deep. Probably makes it more fun to play. Edit: does that mean there are really only 6 levels? What does a level 1 player's stats look like? Or are levels arbitrary "doors" to content and don't actually have any baring on the game world?

You're probably Lv34 in Lv20 Armor, no? You might not have noticed, but if you had rare Armor at lv10-15 that got you to max cool-down in a stat, it worked less well for each level up to 20, when you'd get Lv20 legendary Armor which got you back to max cool-downs. This will be a problem if TTK doesn't have Lv34 gear for those who don't buy the DLC, for those who do though, Lv40 gear will fix it regardless.

Chill dude, if you are planning to keep playing the game three isn't a thing to worry about. Your stats will be reclaimed by getting better equipment than your year one gear. If not, then what is there to worry about?

When you find a new pair of blue boots that makes your grenade spawn a bit faster, you'll put them on and shard the old legendary pair. We've been down this road before with the light level increase in DB. It'll be better come the 15th.
