EDIT 4:
So we finally got some clarification. An article regarding The Taken King in Edge magazine had this quote:
"Not all first-year exotics will be available at launch, though the missing ones will be released over time."
This is all we wanted to know Bungie.
EDIT 3:
So I'm seeing a new trend with people saying this was posted 9 months ago and stuff changes blah blah blah. Ok yes, but Bungie should have communicated these changes with us, instead of just coming out and telling us a few weeks before the expansion comes out that this was how it was going to be and barely clarify anything.
EDIT 2:
Just wanted to add that it's not about using the same exotics 3 years from now. I don't want to be relying on gjallarhorn like I am now 3 years from now, but I would like it to remain relevant damage wise if I would like to use it 3 years from now
That would be all on Bungie though to deliver more appealing and powerful exotics that are better so it wouldn't be the only weapon I'm relying on 3 years from now. Instead what they're doing by choosing what weapons we're upgrading and leaving behind is simply just lazy.
EDIT 1:
Im just referring to the exotics that are being left behind with this post, I don't really care about the legendaries, because I kind of understand why those have to be left behind.
ORIGINAL POST:
"The last thing we wanted was for you to look at your favorite gun or helmet and decide that it had become obsolete. Since the reveal, we’ve read a lot of ideas for how this could have been done better. Your feedback is clear: The time you have invested in your stuff should be respected."
-Bungie Weekly Update Dec 4, 2014-
https://www.bungie.net/7_Bungie-Weekly-Update---12042014/en/News/News?aid=12447
The quote is in the second paragraph under the thorn picture.
There's your proof skeptics. Bungie has lied and is screwin us over by saying, screw all the time you have put into your exotics, we're choosing which ones you can bring into year 2 for you.

9 RepliesPut a LOT of hours into those weapons if they're not coming-i'm not going. Another "We have your money so f#%k you and all your hard work" moment from bungie.

5 RepliesTechnically, any gun is still good in any non-level advantage mode in the crucible. You'll just have to now seperate your arsenal into PvP and PvE groups. Besides, it's their creation, so they can do whatever they want with it. You have the choice of whether to buy future editions or not.

5 RepliesSeems none of you can understand power creep are you really going to use new guns if year one guns are better no your going to use fatebringer forever or ghorn and not touch a new gun or new armor mmo/mmo light games do this very often get used to it
-
3 RepliesThey put year one all over the gear, I thought it was obvious that the gear would be left behind when year two started.
-
I'm not crazy about this either. I get both sides of the weapons argument but it is frustrating to enjoy a game and be constantly given half truths about the direction of the game. In all for the creative ways bungie implements things and I'm going to try and give the benifit of the doubt on this but I don't know if I want to put as much "grind" into the game as before. Love the missions but reality is a lot of players like myself play things that are not that enjoyable in the game simply to rank items and get gear that now is irrelevant.

7 RepliesIt´s amazing how many dumb reasons fanboys can find against an OBVIOUS proof that Bungie has lied and that they are constantly changing what they want and nothing they say can be held true for more than a few weeks/month. Wake up people. I know some of you enjoy Destiny and that´s fine continue playing it if you like it. Nobody is forcing you to quit... but it´s downright stupid to be defending the company regardless of what they do. I guess you will be defending them next expansion as well when they say that they screwed up and they want to "respect your time invested" again and redo something? Some new economy system again? Old exotics coming back? ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN!!! Oh and don´t forget to throw in about 20 bucks as well.

10 RepliesI agree. If I were to actually sit through the ten year plan, I'm keeping my Lord High Fixer to the end, even if just for nostalgia. But why should it be obsolete? I don't have much of a problem with leaving some equipment behind, but doing so to pave the way for new guns sounds more like a copout of having to design new mechanics that would require newer, relevant guns with different functions for certain situations. Out with the old and in with the new, identical guns serves only to tell me that nothing new is being added at all. I'm going to be in the same "walk this way and shoot some enemies" gameplay again. And I don't want that for 10 years. I played that mission already.

Edited by The Loathsome Dung Eater: 8/22/2015 11:32:42 PMThey took the choice right out of our hands. Now we will be forced to use their new exotics because they couldn't ever balance the year one stuff. Watch, only the mediocre exotics will carry over.

Bungie removed the other two threads related to not leaving Exotics behind. Hopefully, yours survives. The one with around 1.5k upvotes was removed as well, and Bungie won't respond to us at all.

4 RepliesI could give a damn about legendary guns. I just want ALL Y1 exotics to be viable in Y2. I used Hammerbuster all through Borderlands 2. The expansions and base game. When the level cap increased, I went a grinded out for another one. But all that time I used HB I still collected, and used their new Gold tier guns. That's how Destiny needs to be done with the EXOTICS only. I don't think Legendary gear should consistently move up with everyone. But exotics should. I use Mida over my Ghorn, Ice Breaker and every other exotic. All the time. Even if I could bring it up to Y2 damage if I found another exotic Scout Rifle, I'd be grinding to level it. Because it would be better and unique in its own way. (Mida should be upgradeable regardless because it's the only exotic scout in All of Density right now.) Do I want to see the Ghorn all over the place in TTK? Not really. But I'd love to see it and look back to Y1. Don't make exotics useless in TTK forward, learn too balance them. So players will have a reason to switch them out.

Bump. Bungie is insanely incompetent.

Bump they change their tune more then a daft punk song

21 RepliesEdited by TeKnoVKNG23: 8/22/2015 5:43:13 PMWhile I understand the want and need for people to experience new gear in the game, I wish they would just let us have all the gear and create this huge gear pool that everyone can pick from. This game needs more variety in terms of weapons and armor as there simply isn't enough to go around. Everyone winds up using the same stuff. It also isn't our fault that Bungie can't seem to design better weapons and exotics than what they put out with Vanilla Destiny. TDB and HOW were very lackluster in terms of gear with bad exotics, poorly designed exotics, and overall gear that didn't add up to some of the awesome items you could get from the vanilla launch of the game. That isn't our fault as gamers that we use the effective gear, that is Bungie's fault for not adding in more effective gear to the game, but instead of doing the good thing and trying to design more attractive gear they punish us for their own mistake. It isn't our fault they designed strikes with mindless bullet sponge bosses and we decided to use the most effective weapons to take them down quickly. They should be designing more quality content, but instead they again punish players for their lackluster and lazy design model and say "That isn't how we want you to play." Well guess what Bungie? You'd better start designing better content and gear for us to use to give us player choice. Player choice should dictate how someone enjoys a game, giving the player the ability to play the way they want and create their own experience is paramount to good game design, and that is something you clearly don't understand.

29 RepliesEdited by sicklecell419: 8/23/2015 5:58:39 PMPeople need to stop trying to justify with this ridiculous "still good in any non-level advantage mode in the crucible" or "You can still use it in year 1 content" comment. Everyone has been under the impression that exotics carry over indefinitely throughout every phase of Destiny's growth, it's obvious that with the failure of TDB and HOW exotics they had to do this or continue on a path of failure rolling out the new exotics. OR! They have an arsenal of the sickest most innovative exotics coming up in TTK, which I highly doubt given the history, and if this is the case just give a list of them ASAP to shut everyone's pie hole. Regardless, casuals and developers have to realize thousands upon thousands of people grinded and were dedicated to the acquisition of exotics every week, Nightfalls x3, Hard VOG Chest x3, Atheon x3, Deathsingers x3 (exotic chest in the thrall maze for a few weeks) and Crota Hard x3 EVERY SINGLE MUDDA -blam!-IN WEEK EVERY SINGLE MONTH FOR ALMOST A YEAR OF THEIR LIFE. For nothing. I guarantee you 99% of the backbone of Destiny including myself, will give 0 -blam!-s about collecting exotics in the future and will severely reduce the amount of time played for the rest of Destiny's life, which might be a 2-3 year lifespan. The hype for countless exotics have been unbelievably disappointing, I can't see this trend not continuing, so I ask you, what will keep Destiny's community blindly chasing exotics every week?

TTK basically makes all the HOW grind pointless. They took two steps forward and one back this time.

105 RepliesEdited by Unholy Trinity Ghoul: 8/22/2015 2:54:49 AMYES! Critical thinking just happened and Zoom In is supplying it! I grinded an entire year for what now can be considered a massive pile of useless shit in my vault! God damnit, Bungie. Was looking so forward to TTK! I was so excited... But now... i had to cancel my TTK Pre-order. I defended your game when everyone else talked so much shit about it, me and my lady got addicted and collectively played over 2000+ hours in what i considered was your masterpiece of a game. I even have a nice little FWC shirt in my closet... We were your backbone, the ones that pre-ordered your game before september 9, 2014. We grinded endlessly for a year to build an arsenal perfectly suited for us. And you f*cked us. You f*cked me... You wanted me to become legend... My legend dies here...

In regards to edit 3, they could have simply said nothing and kept everyone in the dark till the day of (which is honestly what most companies would have done in order to turn a profit) but rather they at the very least have given you notice, nearly a months time in advance...how is that "coming out of nowhere" as you would imply...?...
-
Guys...go back and watch the damned stream again. You all must have selective hearing.

Read my last post, New and More Powerful weapons are on the way, if they are not up to standard we have the right to rant and b#tch, me personally, I'll just quit playing Destiny for good and so will thousands if not millions if TTK fails to deliver.......

6 RepliesI'm curious what they're going to do for the exotic bounty guns. We know invective is going with us but what about the other 5? Imagine a new player in TTK doing the thorn bounty and not even getting a weapon with max damage for TTK.
