First off let me say that I am an avid Destiny fan, played since release, and will absolutely be playing TTK.
There are a few serious things that are about to go wrong with the release however, in my mind. I feel like throughout the arc of the game so far, there have been a few big blunders that we have all seen coming even before they executed them. Kind of like a car wreck that you see ahead of time but can't do anything about.
Examples of this were making us re-level our exotics in TDB, and the many stupid currency systems that have come and gone (commendations, farming planetary materials, weapon parts, and now we can add etheric light and vanguard / crucible marks to this list). I know there's a lot of senseless whining that comes out on these forums, but a lot of these changes they have made to the game were heavily scrutinized, and most people could see from a mile away that Bungie was making a mistake before they even implemented them.
Speculation incoming!
---------------------
1. Making 1/2 of our exotics worthless, without giving us any notice beforehand, and without letting us have a say in which ones are brought and which are left behind. I get that legendaries are gone. I get that a lot of exotics sucked, and maybe some shouldn't be moving forward with the game, but this is crazy. What's the point of this "gotta collect 'em all" mentality if most of what we painstakingly collect is rendered obsolete without notice? Legendaries are much more disposable than exotics. Exotics are what we really grind for. Beloved weapons like MIDA, Vex, Icebreaker, Lord of Wolves, Gjallarhorn, Ram, etc etc are now rendered obsolete without notice, rhyme or reason. And it seems like most of the exotics they brought forward were the bad ones. This will not go over well. What was even the point of Exotic Patch 2.0 of the weapons you're tweaking are now irrelevant? Bungie may regret making this decision.
2. Making old content get left behind. VoG, CE, PoE are now all irrelevant unless there's something they aren't telling us yet. The problem with this? Lack of content. Our endgame will now consist of 1 patrol, 1 raid, strikes, and crucible. Less content than Vanilla Destiny had. Instead of expanding on what worked and fixing what didn't to give us s massive array of things to do endgame, it looks like it has all been scrapped and we now get 1 endgame activity instead of 4 or 5. I understand that this is commonplace in MMO-type games, but there simply isn't enough content here yet to be scrapping old stuff. If we had like 10 endgame activities and scrapped a few of them for a few more, that's one thing. But we have 4 and are about to get rid of 3 of them with only 1-2 more.
3. Losing the Reforge option at Gunsmith. This was one of the best things they ever did for the game. Their mantra is now, "direct, tangible rewards for time spent" but this goes against that entirely. Now we're at the mercy of RNG again to get a good stat roll instead of being able to farm for mats and craft our perfect roll ourselves.
Things like this show me that Bungie still is kind of clueless when it comes to the MMO world. They but off more than they could chew when Destiny launched. They've come a long ways, but this expansion seems like 2 steps forward, 1.5 steps back.
All subject to change of course, if there's still stuff they haven't revealed yet.
----------
EDIT #1: In relation to Reforging. Reforging itself is no different than questing. You put in the time, you farm the mats, do what's required if you --> you get something good that you want as a guarantee. The problem that a lot of you are saying has much more to do with the broken Crucible (Hammer Forged, Hidden Hand, Range Finder, Shotpackage, etc, etc...) than Reforging itself. Reforging just guarantees that you'll have the best stuff if you put in the time. If the best stuff wasn't as good, people wouldn't be so upset about it. Also, if everyone who puts in the time has the same stuff, Crucible becomes about skill.

2 RepliesLook the reasons for #1 & 3 are super obvious to anyone who is paying attention. Bungie simply wants "balance". What I mean is...they obviously are moving away from any op or standout weapons. They had a problem with everyone using thorn.....problem with gjally being required....problem with people camping with icebreaker. They aren't carrying over any of the good weapons, because they don't want us to have op weapons anymore.....all year 2 stuff may look & sound cool, but performance wise...it's all going to be basically the same. Same thing with reforging....they don't want us to be able to reforge any weapons to be a lot better than any others. We have to play with what they give us.

Reforging is horrible for the game bro. It works ok with iron banner put that's it. It made weapon drops completely irrelevant. You get one matador, roll it perfect then every other drop is a waste. Same thing with hopscotch and ill will and ash factory.

I think what they should do for your 2nd point is make for example crotas end only available upon completion of vog hard mode and prison of elders available only upon completion of crota hard mode and then have the taken king raid available only upon completion of poe 35

Agreed 100%

Edited by silkyjohnson72: 8/21/2015 8:15:20 PMI agree completely on item 2. Without ascension of gear they are making all old content irrelevant. So we now have 3 endgame PVE activities, all with relevant rewards. After TTK we will have one. I just cannot justify spending $40 for some story missions, a few strikes, and a RAID, all while eliminating the relevance of the old activities. TTK IS NOT ADDITIONAL/EXPANSION CONTENT. It is a misnomer to call this an expansion or an addition. By basically scrapping old activities this is essentially a new game with a few story missions, strikes, and a raid.
-
I hated reforge so I'm happy about that, everything else on the other hand pisses me off. Raid and POE gear should be able to be year 2 value at least
-
I agree
-
1. There needs to be a fundamental shift towards newer weapons, otherwise the game will keep stagnating. 2. old raids are already nearly irrelevant, the only thing keeping them from this is etheric light. I love my voc and fatebringer. But the real reasons for the raids to this point is the fun of doing them with friends. 3. I agree to a point, I like reforging but it kinda takes a bit of the fun out of finding that perfect roll as well. and with the merchant weapons appearing to have static rolls it is possible that rerolls will be redundant unless you just can not live without that one gun ( for me it only matters that I can get a decent one not what it is).

Nuclear bump strike incoming.

Edited by Hasnath249: 8/21/2015 7:57:14 PMThe Dark Below: Previous raid gear became irrelevant. House of Wolves: Raid gear is now relevant. The Taken King: Previous raid gear will become irrelevant. If this isn't a step back then I don't know what is.

Bump for the exotics!
-
3 RepliesThey should add an extreme raid that drops good loot. Maybe even a nightfall raid that allows revives but you return to orbit if you all die
-
I kind of hate reforming. I agree with everything else, though.
-
Dark below: "we made raid gear irrelevant" House of Wolves: "that was wrong, so we made them relevant again" Taken King: "I don't know anymore"

1 ReplyBUMP the exotics but reforge needed to be dropped. It is broken as hell!

TTk and it two little followers, im getting them to finish off the year but when destiny 2 hits its done, people can praise bungie for their complete ineptitude on making this game, its becoming more horseshit and drabble. some which is quite minute in the size lacking criteria this game has looks a little interesting. but it really has no fluff to it, it feels as if this last year was nothing but a full beta test. I mean come on half way through the game they decide to completely re write the mechanics of the game with progression. the weapons from Destiny should last up until at least Destiny 2. They plan to nerf the Gjallerhon, then finally sell it a gain with Xur, then drop it from progression. smooth move dickweeds, if development in this game is to be a complete re write in the middle of each base game. I don't really know how far it will go. But Bungie will have their lil desticles hanging of their nuts for the ride.

Edited by Brokkr: 8/21/2015 7:25:19 PMDisagree completely. items like gjallarhorn are the ones that need to be left behind. And the "gotta collect them all" mentality was never something you were supposed to have. Some people are collectors, some people aren't. And I'd say there are a lot of changes and additions tailored specifically for collectors. reforge was a mistake. I mean look at the crucible. nuff said. and TTK already has more confirmed end game than vanilla destiny.
-
1 ReplyReforge option its in the TTK, look at the stream carefully, when they are with the gunsmith.
-
What I don't understand is how they can just do away with trials weapons. I works hard for my adept weapons and it's not fair to have them obsolete now
-
Two big issues for me: 1. No private matchmaking. I want to play custom games with my friends. What a disappointment here. 2. Map voting.
-
1 ReplyI prefer to think of this as Bungie making three must needed fixes in this game. 1) some of the exotics in this game are so op they make choosing pointless. Time to get rid of them. 2) you're assuming they aren't addressing this. There is no way these will be left behind. No issues here. 3) I don't thinks is true, so again. No point is getting your panties in a bunch until we know for sure. Overall, no issues. Yet.

My biggest issue/concern is that they seem to change things up an awful lot. I've only been on board since April, so post TDB, and I've seen the system change a bit with HoW. Reading the forums, I've heard about the changes I missed out on prior to TDB. And now, with TTK, everything changes up again, and big time. Every time they do this they dilute the essence of the game. I get that they are learning and fixing and building. And many times the changes are probably needed. But if they keep this up it's not going to last 10 years. Those of us that started in year 1 will not want to keep learning a new system every year. They need to come up with a strategy and stick with it. If that strategy is ascending weapons on and on, then lets do that. If the strategy is weapons are only good until the next expansion, then fine. But lets not switch back and forth between those two styles constantly. Lets not change up the multiple forms of currency constantly. Evolve the game for sure, but don't keep changing the base metrics of how it operates.

2 RepliesReforging broke the game. Your a fool if you think it was the best thing they could have done. Rather than people getting a weapon to drop and going "Hmm has some good stats and decent perks, let's see how it plays" people went to "oh its not the Hopscotch, or Ash Factory or Matador, time to dismantle" because people became obsessed with getting "god rolls" on everything. Thus the only thing you saw in Crucible? Proximity + Tripod Shot Package + Grenadier/LitC/Kneepads And a few others.
-
Reforging guns was one of my favorite things to do -_-
-
When i saw the stream and saw the exotic weapons blueprints it was my understanding that those were unleveled weapons with not damage upgrades or perks. Now it seems clear that they are abandoning the whole weapon upgrade from the upgrade paths and making weapons a set attack tier based on its level requirements. Basically its like playing a MMO you find a weapon that requires lvl 5 to equip and use and then you find an even better one but with higher requirments. IMO this makes sense for the legendaries but for the exotics they should allow you to infuse your old exotics to bring them up as well. Hell ive been stockpiling every exotic drop ive gotten just for that hopefully they dont just become shards.
