TTK: 3 potential BIG mistakes Bungie is about to make.

First off let me say that I am an avid Destiny fan, played since release, and will absolutely be playing TTK. There are a few serious things that are about to go wrong with the release however, in my mind. I feel like throughout the arc of the game so far, there have been a few big blunders that we have all seen coming even before they executed them. Kind of like a car wreck that you see ahead of time but can't do anything about. Examples of this were making us re-level our exotics in TDB, and the many stupid currency systems that have come and gone (commendations, farming planetary materials, weapon parts, and now we can add etheric light and vanguard / crucible marks to this list). I know there's a lot of senseless whining that comes out on these forums, but a lot of these changes they have made to the game were heavily scrutinized, and most people could see from a mile away that Bungie was making a mistake before they even implemented them. Speculation incoming! --------------------- 1. Making 1/2 of our exotics worthless, without giving us any notice beforehand, and without letting us have a say in which ones are brought and which are left behind. I get that legendaries are gone. I get that a lot of exotics sucked, and maybe some shouldn't be moving forward with the game, but this is crazy. What's the point of this "gotta collect 'em all" mentality if most of what we painstakingly collect is rendered obsolete without notice? Legendaries are much more disposable than exotics. Exotics are what we really grind for. Beloved weapons like MIDA, Vex, Icebreaker, Lord of Wolves, Gjallarhorn, Ram, etc etc are now rendered obsolete without notice, rhyme or reason. And it seems like most of the exotics they brought forward were the bad ones. This will not go over well. What was even the point of Exotic Patch 2.0 of the weapons you're tweaking are now irrelevant? Bungie may regret making this decision. 2. Making old content get left behind. VoG, CE, PoE are now all irrelevant unless there's something they aren't telling us yet. The problem with this? Lack of content. Our endgame will now consist of 1 patrol, 1 raid, strikes, and crucible. Less content than Vanilla Destiny had. Instead of expanding on what worked and fixing what didn't to give us s massive array of things to do endgame, it looks like it has all been scrapped and we now get 1 endgame activity instead of 4 or 5. I understand that this is commonplace in MMO-type games, but there simply isn't enough content here yet to be scrapping old stuff. If we had like 10 endgame activities and scrapped a few of them for a few more, that's one thing. But we have 4 and are about to get rid of 3 of them with only 1-2 more. 3. Losing the Reforge option at Gunsmith. This was one of the best things they ever did for the game. Their mantra is now, "direct, tangible rewards for time spent" but this goes against that entirely. Now we're at the mercy of RNG again to get a good stat roll instead of being able to farm for mats and craft our perfect roll ourselves. Things like this show me that Bungie still is kind of clueless when it comes to the MMO world. They but off more than they could chew when Destiny launched. They've come a long ways, but this expansion seems like 2 steps forward, 1.5 steps back. All subject to change of course, if there's still stuff they haven't revealed yet. ---------- EDIT #1: In relation to Reforging. Reforging itself is no different than questing. You put in the time, you farm the mats, do what's required if you --> you get something good that you want as a guarantee. The problem that a lot of you are saying has much more to do with the broken Crucible (Hammer Forged, Hidden Hand, Range Finder, Shotpackage, etc, etc...) than Reforging itself. Reforging just guarantees that you'll have the best stuff if you put in the time. If the best stuff wasn't as good, people wouldn't be so upset about it. Also, if everyone who puts in the time has the same stuff, Crucible becomes about skill.

  • I agree with you, the only relevant content is gonna be the new one and pretty much everything else is gonna be left behind, wich bring us back to the main issue the game had at it's release and why it was so punished by reviews, the lack of content.

  • Reforging was kind of dumb. The joy was in getting guns with good roles, not constantly spamming Banshee to exploit the system.

  • I think they took out the reforge ready icon since most weapons in ttk will be reforgeable, and in the twitch stream from wensday at the bottom of the gunsmith it had a place for reforging. Also if the g-horn was upgradable in ttk no one would use any other gun for pve unless it was more powerful. So, to make an expansion exciting there has to be a more powerful gun, and this just leads to very op guns that make the game way too easy.

  • Disagree with all three. 1. How is 4 weeks before release "no notice" on obselete exotics... your words not mine. 2. This is old news. Welcome to RPG MMOS. 3. Reforging literally KILLED the excitement of all legendary drops. You have your 2 cents, these are mine.

        • I've been seeing so much about "exotics getting left behind" by my understanding of what they said about that, is only some will be upgradable to NEW versions like the new Suros, all of the old exotics would still be useful, just not all would be getting a new version.

You can still reforge at the Gunsmith, you can see it in the video when they move the cursor over the consumables. It's not gone.

          • Phase 1: Hype the game/DLC and get a bunch of pre-orders. Phase 2: Deliver something rather less than advertised (sorry suckers but u pre-ordered!). Phase 3: Profit.

            • i'm glad to lose reforging as anyone who cares about balance and enjoyment of the game. I mean look at the chaos caused by being able to put ideal perks on shotties without reforging they wouldn't have been such an issue reforging make there be no point in anything less than the ideal perks exist at all. When you get something from an activity the chances of getting a god tier role are really low which is fine because everyone on mass wont be rocking the best form of a legendary you can get in 2/3 or 3/3 slots. I would be okay if they had say armor reforging because i hope in ttk raid gear isn't the only viable option for endgame. old content can be run for fun and some exotics were too good for there own sake or had too useful of a perk to the point other weapons became irrelevant. same with the VoG weapons too god for for their own sake as they were arguably some of the best examples of there weapon type (AR,SR,shotty and snipers)

              • The one I disagree the most is the exotics not carrying over. Really? They chose the weapons they wanted.
the really sucky ones
And left us without choice, here comes again the "this is not how we intended our game to be played" BS They force you to use what ever they want. The sole reason why I believe some of their best exotics are not returning is simply because of creativity. They are not creative enough to make a weapon that can compete with ghorn. Or have cool perks like MIDA

                  • I would disagree on Point 2. Patrol isn't changing. We'll still be patrolling Earth, the moon, Venus and Mars. We'll just have an additional one on top of that. We aren't losing the old strikes, we're getting four new ones on top of them. We're getting eight new Crucible maps and three new modes on top of what we had. The only things really getting left behind are the raids and PoE. TTK will have one raid and that's what Vanilla Destiny had. But we'll have more patrol, more strikes and more Crucible than we did in Vanilla. Our endgame with TTK will be much larger than Vanilla. But I agree, it would be nice if we had three raids and the prison, all of which provided relevant rewards. Oh well.

                      • I think its obvious at this point Bungie has multiple dev teams working on multiple projects simultaneously. These multiple dev teams do not ever compare notes and barely communicate with each other. It makes a lot of sense. TTK has been in development for a while and throws out a great many things, tbh its amazing that any exotic from DLC 1 or DLC 2 made the cut, and its not surprising that the majority did not.

The longer someone has been playing and the more exotics and legendaries they have the more they will be burnt in TTK when they are made redundant. It does not make sense to give the players who have played the longest the worst side of the deal. And by not allowing year 1 weapons to be upgraded they have made the raids and any year 1 PvE content meaningless as they provide no usable reward in future expansions. Why could the new upgrading method not be implemented across all legendaries and exotics? Seems ridiculous that they would actually make such a drastic change, all year one legendaries and some exotics are now worthless. The time invested into obtaining and levelling them is wasted by not bringing them forward and as they are not better than year 2 weapons they cant even be dismantled to upgrade year 2 legendaries. Towards the end of the stream Tyson Green says that they are trying to deliver on people finding things that excite them and keep them, customise them and keep them. Well they have done exactly the opposite of that for year one players. Edit: Not much of a Legend or much incentive to play if you don't have anything to show for it. Since HoW and ascending I have been using some older weapons. I am more attached to The Devil You Know than my exotics because I have used it since week one, if the changes go through as they are year one players will have NOTHING meaningful to show for it all the year 2 exotics will be available to anyone in year 2. Why not allow all legendary and exotic gear to be relevant? let us choose what we want to use, so what if I want to carry one or two pieces with me for 10 years, in 10 years time that's the only difference between me and my story and a newcomer.

                        • The ONLY thing I'm mad about is that the endgame signature weapons aren't moving forward. Vex and nechro (even tho it stinks) were the purpose of doing these raids. Same applies to raid weapons, just my opinion tho. With how much flip flopping they do I'm keeping my timepiece, fang, corrective measure, etc just in case
