First off let me say that I am an avid Destiny fan, played since release, and will absolutely be playing TTK.
There are a few serious things that are about to go wrong with the release however, in my mind. I feel like throughout the arc of the game so far, there have been a few big blunders that we have all seen coming even before they executed them. Kind of like a car wreck that you see ahead of time but can't do anything about.
Examples of this were making us re-level our exotics in TDB, and the many stupid currency systems that have come and gone (commendations, farming planetary materials, weapon parts, and now we can add etheric light and vanguard / crucible marks to this list). I know there's a lot of senseless whining that comes out on these forums, but a lot of these changes they have made to the game were heavily scrutinized, and most people could see from a mile away that Bungie was making a mistake before they even implemented them.
Speculation incoming!
---------------------
1. Making 1/2 of our exotics worthless, without giving us any notice beforehand, and without letting us have a say in which ones are brought and which are left behind. I get that legendaries are gone. I get that a lot of exotics sucked, and maybe some shouldn't be moving forward with the game, but this is crazy. What's the point of this "gotta collect 'em all" mentality if most of what we painstakingly collect is rendered obsolete without notice? Legendaries are much more disposable than exotics. Exotics are what we really grind for. Beloved weapons like MIDA, Vex, Icebreaker, Lord of Wolves, Gjallarhorn, Ram, etc etc are now rendered obsolete without notice, rhyme or reason. And it seems like most of the exotics they brought forward were the bad ones. This will not go over well. What was even the point of Exotic Patch 2.0 of the weapons you're tweaking are now irrelevant? Bungie may regret making this decision.
2. Making old content get left behind. VoG, CE, PoE are now all irrelevant unless there's something they aren't telling us yet. The problem with this? Lack of content. Our endgame will now consist of 1 patrol, 1 raid, strikes, and crucible. Less content than Vanilla Destiny had. Instead of expanding on what worked and fixing what didn't to give us s massive array of things to do endgame, it looks like it has all been scrapped and we now get 1 endgame activity instead of 4 or 5. I understand that this is commonplace in MMO-type games, but there simply isn't enough content here yet to be scrapping old stuff. If we had like 10 endgame activities and scrapped a few of them for a few more, that's one thing. But we have 4 and are about to get rid of 3 of them with only 1-2 more.
3. Losing the Reforge option at Gunsmith. This was one of the best things they ever did for the game. Their mantra is now, "direct, tangible rewards for time spent" but this goes against that entirely. Now we're at the mercy of RNG again to get a good stat roll instead of being able to farm for mats and craft our perfect roll ourselves.
Things like this show me that Bungie still is kind of clueless when it comes to the MMO world. They but off more than they could chew when Destiny launched. They've come a long ways, but this expansion seems like 2 steps forward, 1.5 steps back.
All subject to change of course, if there's still stuff they haven't revealed yet.
----------
EDIT #1: In relation to Reforging. Reforging itself is no different than questing. You put in the time, you farm the mats, do what's required if you --> you get something good that you want as a guarantee. The problem that a lot of you are saying has much more to do with the broken Crucible (Hammer Forged, Hidden Hand, Range Finder, Shotpackage, etc, etc...) than Reforging itself. Reforging just guarantees that you'll have the best stuff if you put in the time. If the best stuff wasn't as good, people wouldn't be so upset about it. Also, if everyone who puts in the time has the same stuff, Crucible becomes about skill.

You just said the same point twice.

2 RepliesOf course they aren't going to warn the community that they won't be able to bring their year 1 weapons (some exotics excluded) to TTK. They added that in HoW to keep the population invested and grinding until TTK. It was a real asshole move but hey anything to keep their dwindling population up.

3 Replies1. When do i use exotics in pve except gh? Rarely. Can i still use all my exotics in pvp? Yes. 2. Agreed. 3. Reforging is broken. Everyone has the same perks.

without giving us any notice beforehand
We know they are making them redundant, we found out weeks ago, TTK hasnt yet been released, seems like a lot of notice to me.

4 RepliesThe changes you mentioned are fine. Reforge ruined crucible Leaving half the exotics behind is good because I'm now going to use the new exotics Leaving vog as it is is fine as newer players will be able to get a taste at a raid

GTFO. reforging was and is the BEST thing HOW had to offer, STFU complaining about shot package. reforging pulse rifles, scout rifles, sniper rifles, heavy machine guns, rocket launchers was awesome and A TOTAL WASTE OF ALL MY -blam!-ING WEAPON PARTS AND MOTES OF LIGHT AND SHARDS FOR GLIMMER AND MORE MOTES OF LIGHT AND STRANGE COINS FOR MORE MOTES OF LIGHT FOR WEAPONS I CAN'T EVEN -blam!-ING USE....srsly -blam!- bungie and they're flakey asses, I gotta go punch someone in the dick...

3 RepliesThe problems (for me personally) with reforging is that: 1. Weapons that you get from for example trials has to have the best perks available to be slightly relevant. 2. The legendary weapons losses its personality and u arent excited for a legendary drop since you already have the optimal variant.

4 RepliesI fully agree with bungie on the gunsmith. That fool single handedly ruined crucible. He's the reason you only see shot package shotguns. So I'm ecstatic that option is going out the window

1 ReplyEdited by o0DELTA FORCE0o: 8/23/2015 10:02:54 PMReforging was the worst thing they did for destiny. It's took the excitement of receiving gear away. All I needed was a weapon and could stroll over to an NPC and buy desired weapon and roll away. Every engram I received after that I was like cool another mote of light. Content is being phased out unfortunately but there is no point in playing new content if I could just play the old content and get same drops. It's a progressive game and that's what happens. I first thought it was crap that they were leaving exotics behind. I still don't entirely agree with the direction they are going on that but I feel those exotics were never meant to exist forever. Who knows really but it is what it is.

43 RepliesIm not responding to specific comments made by op, but the relate to some philosophies i find unreasonable posted in response. I see people post "who would want the same...for the next 10 years..." My point on this-because that is exactly what it means to b "legend." New stuff can b cool, sure. But its not legend if its new. In 10 years u can show off how u became legend by what u have in your arsenal. Years after the vog has been done away with, and items in there can never be attained, u can show off your vex, your voc, your raid gear, etc, to show that u were there. Always having new stuff does not make anyone legend, which is what they r selling this entire game on. Next- this is not an mmo. Just because a pizza has pepperonis and another has pepperonis and sausage doesnt mean they r the same. One may have a component the other has, but they r still different. So points to that matter r automatically moot, because u r talking about a combo pizza when i bought a pepperoni lovers. There r more, but those r glaring. Speak in context to what the game is and what we were sold on. To become legend! Many of us dont feel that because we r forced to adopt new things constantly. I want to use the same things for the next 10 years, while adopting the things that r better or more useful...as we have done for the past year. I dont just use voc, i use fang more. I use both found verdict and swordbreaker. I wear a mix of all the raids, with some vanilla mixed in. It makes me my own legend, what i choose to use and represent myself. This point seems to b entirely missed by most. Thanks if u made it this far

105 RepliesEdited by ash: 8/22/2015 4:57:40 AMDisagree on Reforge. Reforge sounds good on paper, but in practice it just homogenises the weapons. You'll always want to ignore most perks in the game and simply reroll them to obtain the same overpowered combination. Also, as a result, Bungie are then forced to nerf perks that can stack in overpowered ways, which means when those perks are stacked with other less game-breaking perks, they're underpowered. EDIT: I added some further points on reforging in the reply thread below, since this post didn't really strike at the core of the issue. So if you're going to post about how I'm an idiot, please call me an idiot after reading my other posts below. =] On Exotics, I agree. I think it's cool that they're re-designing some existing exotics, but as someone mentioned, removing an exotic is kind of like removing an ability from the game. It also really discourages players from chasing exotics if there's a chance they may become irrelevant. I would say one possible compromise to this, is to bring all Exotics up to exactly the same power, but give each one a special year-specific bonus damage/armour perk. So if you're playing Vault of Glass? Gjallarhorn and Icebreaker. Playing in the Dreadnaught? You'll want the newest exotic rocket launchers for that. Also I think all exotics should be equal in Crucible, but when "power matters", only the newest exotics have an edge. This ensures that with every injection of new content, the exotics associated with it are sought after. This would be especially cool IMO if they came out with a Level 40 VoG, CE and Skolas PoE (addressing point 2). Maybe they could do something like Lv40 Nightfall Raids that can be VoG, CE or PoE which when completed allow you to obtain 1 random raid drop from the Oryx raid. You'd need your new exotics for Oryx, and then your old exotics for Year 1 content, ensuring players use a variety of weapons in order to gain peak effectiveness at end-game.

2 RepliesWhy leave some exotics? leave all or take all. don't get the reason behind "some" it's stupid. And what we've seen the "some" are the most unpopular
-
Hm. I actually agree on all your points. Least so with exotics, but even then, losing the exotic gear/perks I like (save for Gjallarhorn, and maybe Thorn)... Like the MIDA, or Nighthawk or Khepri's Sting? That would be... unsatisfactory, to say the least. Looking at things this way, it does seem as if they're forgetting some of the things that year one seemed to have taught them. Or maybe they just plan on bringing back reforging in a later DLC... >_> Meh. With everything that's coming in TTK, I know I'm going to get a lot out of it, but with these things in mind I have to wonder how long it'll last.
-
4 RepliesI've said it once and I'll say it again. Most people on this game are virgin, nerd pushovers. They'll never demand quality from a company because the reason they play video games in the first place is to escape having to stand up to or for anything in real life. Flash some shiny new virtual achievements and it more than fills the void in their psychology and lack of self-esteem. As long as there's a way to achieve temporary and hollow quick fixes of dopamine via digital gun dropping by RNGesus, they're content with anything.
-
5 RepliesHonestly I love this game and will be playing it irregardless, but Bungie is really giving me pause with how little they seem to understand their player base a full year in.
-
Good post why is this so far down the list

Edited by MisterHolister: 8/23/2015 12:34:42 PMGood post. I agree. HoW mad me come BACK to Destiny because reforging and ascension were added. It really seemed like Bungie "got it", i heard very few complaints about it aside from tge Crucible angle, and to be honest, it was the only option some of us had of rolling a lesser gun to be competitive with guns that are hard for casual pvpers to get. Like Felwinters. It It made my old favorites useable again, and that gave me pride and a sense of originality..PLUS, I was more inclined to use the NEW guns, because I could tweek them to my personal taste. Im a day one player and I used up all of my weapon parts playing with this to try different stuff with different guns..I actually would grind dragon strikes for weapon prts,,lol, But now, we are gonna be stuck with whatever in the game lottery, that so far hasnt been too kind to me.
