Anyone else still not done the Raid? What's your reason?
I've had Destiny since day one, have a lvl 29 Hunter and lvl 28 Warlock, and the closest I've come is to just killing things outside of the Vault for the hell of it. The few friends I have that had Destiny didn't like the game and have already jumped shipped to other stuff, leaving me to diddle myself solo and thinking about playing with strangers, which, since you can't talk to anyone without inviting to party, is a nightmare crapshoot. Will I get unbearable assholes barking orders and screaming at me if I die? Or worse, children? I'm an older gamer (33), very chill and relaxed and very much want the same in a Raid group.
Reading the forums however it seems the majority of experienced Raiders would soon as piss on a noob than Raid with one (and maybe rightly so, I admit) so at this point it may be more enjoyable to go at it with other noobs. Who knows.
Anywho. Any other Raid virgins out there?
*EDIT* I'm on Xbox One for those that asked. Gamertag is same as here. I usually play late at night (10:30pm-3am CST) if any of you goons are night owls like me.
*EDIT* Thanks for all the responses, guys. Was quite surprised to wake up to 400+ replies. And thanks especially to those offering to help myself and all the other Raid noobs in need, across all systems. You guys are dope.
**UPDATE!!!** Went through the Raid for the first time tonight with a buddy, 3 randoms from the Forums (thanks dudes!) and one lvl 30 shining angel of cockness who showed up out of nowhere to carry our noob asses across the finish line with Atheon, and then to top it off, took my buddy and I through a couple of his hard mode checkpoints with his friends so we could get a bit more loot. In about 2 hours I came away Praedyth's Revenge, Corrective Measure, Found Verdict and a Raid chest piece for my Hunter, plus Chatterwhite and ascendant materials. Not too shabby. It was a lot of fun too, very chill and easy going group with the exception of one dude who bounced after a wipe but it turned out to be for the best. I still have a lot to learn though, the lvl 30 guy and his friends were ridiculous pros at it so I didn't have to do much. So you other guys that were reticent like me to hook up with strangers, I say go for it. I'm pretty stoked to go again so you guys sending me messages, keep hitting me up!

18 RepliesAs an experienced raider (destiny and other games) what I can tell you about a lot of "noob" raiders is that they hear about things being easy and don't quite understand that veteran raiders, especially in a Newer game like destiny, spent A LOT of time learning how to do each fight. Probably with multiple groups and strategies. It isn't so much not wanting to take new players in as much as not wanting to re teach people how to do everything and hope they are smart enough to pick it up on the fly and complete it. THERE IS A SOLUTION!! Every discovered nook, cranny, strategy, exploit of the vault is posted on forums and YouTube. People clear it in 30 minutes. Take 30 minutes, watch how they do it! Read how the fights are done. I WILL EVEN REDUCE YOUR RESEARCH TIME!
spoilers ahead
Here's what to read/watch online to successfully lie your way into a stingy VoG by saying you have done it before: Where the sync plates are outside and that only praetorians can take it back from you. The order of confluxes, where to go during legions, how to cleanse yourself from fanatic goo. Where Templar oracles spawn. How many oracle waves. How to cheese from the top. How to use the relic (most important thing throughout raid). how kill Templar. How to prevent Templar from teleporting. How to not kill yourself in bubbles. How to push Templar off edge. How enrage works. 5th chest location, Gorgons chest locations, how not to die in Gorgons maze, how to kill a gorgon, how not to die in Gorgons maze on hard How to do jumping platforms, how do them easy depending on your class. To kill snipers in atheons room, to kill the gate keeper, how the gates work, the multitude of strategies of how to do the gates, how to use the relic (it's back! Learn how to use it!). The atheon fight, which portal is which and the names they are referred to by. The order of oracles. How to not get blown up by supplicants, HOW TO USE THE RELIC!(third fight in the raid that has it, you should probably learn how to use it) how to navigate out of portals, what to do during times vengeance, what to not do during times vengeance (rockets in bubbles, solar grenades, overstaying, leaving supplicants alive). How enrage works. How to push him off the edge... Just because. How not to be a dick when someone gets good loot and you don't.( maybe shoulda put at the top) Lotta tips here but look everything up. Grab a snack and let one hour of research save you two hours of looking for group and five hours of dying. Hope this helps some new guys smoothly do their first runs with no one knowing the wiser. If you don't like the idea of looking everything up beforehand then find more like minded people and have that blind experience... At least the info is there should you get discouraged. Happy hunting.

4 RepliesAnyone else clicked on here expecting something entirely different? I mean "raid virgin" .. Really?=P

you my friend are my favorite kind of person to take through. I've done VoG more times then i care to count and every time ive went through with a first timer has been the most rewarding. i think its the overall response that you hear from a person weather its hearing them get excited about how many assendents there getting or when they get that first piece of raid weapons/gear. Not to mention that satisfying felling we all have felt the first time Atheon goes down, that felling like we were part of one cohesive group. Because of this i take almost every raid invite (unless I know i just don't have the time) I get. if there are any others out there in this same boat that are on ps4 please feel free to send me a friend invite with a message saying you want to do the raid and ill be more then happy to help as I'm usual on every day. (psn akudakura44) lets make this a community were we work together and not just throw blame and hate. your friendly neighborhood raider.

I was a raid virgin up until last weekend actually. I'm going to try and finish it tonight with some friends. But the main reason I didn't is because I don't have enough play time. I really only play on the weekends, and even then I'm normally fairly busy
-
Yeah I have the same fears, even though I see a lot of nice posts of people offering to help.
-
I've done the Vault 4 times, but never beat Atheon. We always have to split for some reason, or my internet craps out on me. Still got 2 pieces of Raid gear and the Raid sniper, if I can just get the gauntlets I might be able to hit 30 for Crota's End

Edited by Boolin_v2: 11/10/2014 11:35:33 PMI thought this was going to be a R-ape thread, stopped reading when I found out it wasn't.

I was actually a raid virgin up until yesterday when I finally talked it into letting it pop my cherry.
-
I just created a topic to allow first timers to form groups together.

1 ReplySmack! It is great to hear someone that is in the same boat as me, I get tired of seeing all of these dudes (ew huh, excuse me Guardians) with all of this cool Raid Gear that I can only experience from the working end in the Crucible (i.e. Vex Mythocast). I not only haven't done the VoG but I have only completed one Daily Heroic with a friend who resides in a time zone 6 hours ahead of mine which is Central Time. So needless to say Strange Coin is as rare as "strange" if you understand me. I am also an older gamer (your senior by several) and have had the same reservations as you, plus sometimes when receiving game invites I wonder what I might be getting into. I have also had Destiny from Day One and have a Level 27(.98) Warlock and a Lvl 25 Titan and a low level Hunter I need to work on because it appears to be the best PvP character from my experience and reading. I usually play from 5:30 or so CST to around 11:30 or 12:00 so our hours would be off. Anywho, just wanted to say I feel ya brother and would like to at least hook up on some Nightfall's and Daily Heroic's sometime so I could actually take some of my Strange currency out of their safe deposit box down at the bank before they drop in value equal to the good ole U.S. Dollar! I'm also on xbox one and of the same gamertag as this.

1 ReplyI haven't done the raid cause I don't have 5 friends and meeting new people is scary.
-
I've stayed away from the Raid just because I didn't have a network of people.. and no mic. Also, my playtime is an issure. I play from 9pm-midnight PST on Xbox 360. Plus, there are still so many other things for me to do as well. I've got to upgrade my gear, I just started getting in a good Ascendant material stage where I can get 3 or 4 a day. Plus, I only very recently got in a Clan. I've already done weekly heroic, dailies, bounties and even one embarassing attempt at VoG. All in the past week. Overall, I feel i'm not "ready" for raid. I cannot have a mic, so that's an issue that needs some work around. Destiny app helps for quick communication, but it's not a cure-all.

4 RepliesEdited by Doc SoCal: 11/10/2014 10:17:37 PM
Anyone else still not done the Raid? What's your reason?
I am holding off. They need to sort the reward system and there is so much cheese controversy, I am happy to wait till it is sorted to give it a go. I figure I will get all three of my chars to 29 then see how the game develops when the DLC drops. In no hurry am I.

3 RepliesDazedhigh, I'm 26, I'll gladly be your raid chaperone, Its not that bad like people say it is. My first time I ran it was with a crew who had done it 10+ times and they were real chill, showed me where to go , all the good vantage points, and one guy let me pick up the relic during the Templar fight (they were cheesing him so they didn't need the relic , they just told me to make sure to destroy the oracles) It's good practice because all you fight is harpies and goblins. Now I'm a boss with it. GT is same and I game every night around the same time as you so we should def. raid
-
1 ReplyI have also yet to do the raid, not for lack of trying, but I don't have many friends that even play on an Xbox and none that play Destiny so I have been stuck, add together that I am just under lvl 26 I just haven't been able to find a group.
-
Add me name is gamertag

You all dudes scared of inviting randoms to raid gotta chill out, there's nothing to be scared about here. Worst that could happen is you find some assholes, big deal. Just cut their sound if they say shit, hold on until the end of the level, and leave once you get a save to find another party, after politely telling them to eat their doo doo of course. GT = Gargantuesque, I'm on xb1 too. If you are short of a player one day and you want to be sure you don't accidentally draw a moronic 16 year old or a geek on his periods, invite me !
-
I'll help you out mate, Normal raid is pretty easy, and as long as you have 2-3 vets it's a breeze to teach and then take higher levels to the hard raid.
-
Im 32 years old and i always search for partys in the forums, i had always found good ones with pretty good players and persons willing to help! Dont know if im lucky to finde them or just is everyone that nice :) Is very different in game than it is in yhe forums! You should try it i recomend it! Im on PS4 shame i cant help you =(

Very much the same situation. 32 year old, UK gamer. Have two friends that i regularly play with on Destiny (Xbone) I have a Titan and a Warlock at lvl 28 but have never attempted the Vault since its impossible to solo or do as a trio (unless you're a monster player I presume).
