Raid Virgins

Anyone else still not done the Raid? What's your reason? I've had Destiny since day one, have a lvl 29 Hunter and lvl 28 Warlock, and the closest I've come is to just killing things outside of the Vault for the hell of it. The few friends I have that had Destiny didn't like the game and have already jumped shipped to other stuff, leaving me to diddle myself solo and thinking about playing with strangers, which, since you can't talk to anyone without inviting to party, is a nightmare crapshoot. Will I get unbearable assholes barking orders and screaming at me if I die? Or worse, children? I'm an older gamer (33), very chill and relaxed and very much want the same in a Raid group. Reading the forums however it seems the majority of experienced Raiders would soon as piss on a noob than Raid with one (and maybe rightly so, I admit) so at this point it may be more enjoyable to go at it with other noobs. Who knows. Anywho. Any other Raid virgins out there? *EDIT* I'm on Xbox One for those that asked. Gamertag is same as here. I usually play late at night (10:30pm-3am CST) if any of you goons are night owls like me. *EDIT* Thanks for all the responses, guys. Was quite surprised to wake up to 400+ replies. And thanks especially to those offering to help myself and all the other Raid noobs in need, across all systems. You guys are dope. **UPDATE!!!** Went through the Raid for the first time tonight with a buddy, 3 randoms from the Forums (thanks dudes!) and one lvl 30 shining angel of cockness who showed up out of nowhere to carry our noob asses across the finish line with Atheon, and then to top it off, took my buddy and I through a couple of his hard mode checkpoints with his friends so we could get a bit more loot. In about 2 hours I came away Praedyth's Revenge, Corrective Measure, Found Verdict and a Raid chest piece for my Hunter, plus Chatterwhite and ascendant materials. Not too shabby. It was a lot of fun too, very chill and easy going group with the exception of one dude who bounced after a wipe but it turned out to be for the best. I still have a lot to learn though, the lvl 30 guy and his friends were ridiculous pros at it so I didn't have to do much. So you other guys that were reticent like me to hook up with strangers, I say go for it. I'm pretty stoked to go again so you guys sending me messages, keep hitting me up!

  • Don't worry, the community(from what I have expirenced on Xbox 360) is nice. I will admit my voice is a little high through voice chat for my age but no one judges me. And I have ran into a few kids who were obviously twelve, but they were either a higher level than me or helpful, not annoying like the COD kids. I would suggest raiding with a few different sets of randoms. If you don't like it don't do it. But I bet you you will like it, maybe even meet a few friends P.S if you are level 29 doing the hard raid 30s sometimes ignore you, so you just need to make sure your with the helpful ones.

  • I've run the raid from start to finish twice now, both times with a group of randoms, and for one of those runs I had no mic. I wouldn't worry too much about who you're grouping up with. As long as everyone has a mic and knows what they're doing, things should go smoothly, at least until Atheon. The ridiculous amount of glitches during the Atheon fight is the hardest part of the raid.

Well I used to be a raid virgin... until yesterday. Two of my three friends that played made our scheduled time, and we decided to reach out to destinylfg. Within about 15 minutes we had 2 more join us. The first one said they hadn't done the raid before... I thought, no problem! I relished the idea of trying to conquer the raid with people who have never been inside the vault. The second one joins, and when I ask about experience I am advised that they've not gone far, only to the templar.... Great! Some experience! But I've given a look over how the vault is set up... and it doesn't seem too difficult to get to the templar... so this might be a longer run then we'd like! Finally I send an invite to someone on destinylfg who advertised experience, and when that invite was accepted - the big question came: "Uh... hey dude... are you ok with rolling with a group that's never done the vault before?" The silence was telling... but he was cool with it! We were off! A rag-tag group of guardians, doomed to fail through the virtue of a lack of experience, and a 3.5-4 hour deadline... but we were determined! At around 2 hours and 50 minutes after we set out, Atheon was defeated. (Full disclosure: We cheesed the templar) My friend, I strongly encourage you to try. I know it can be hard to get a group for endgame stuff (i've played tons of mmos), but you never know if you don't try (and persist!). The raid experience brought a whole new level of destiny for me. While I only walked away with a class item (vanity, ya!), shards and energy... oh... and chatterwhite (you'll see) - the experience made it all worth it! Kudos to XSparX77x for being such a cool guy and having patience with a bunch of newbs, you rocked dude.

    • I've done the raid entirely with people met off the forums. Everyone has been friendly, helpful and I've ended up having a lot of fun everytime I've done the raid

    • I thought the same as you. I decided to bite the bullet and posted on the forum yesterday that I was LFG. I found and group and was able to complete the raid (killed Atheon). Yeah I was nervous, I dodnt know what I was doing at first, but just follow everyone else, when they run, just run with them. The people I grouped with were pretty nice. Of course no one wants to seems like a noob, but just suck it up for the first run through. After that you'll know what youre doing.

    • Great post bud. Im actually a few years older than yourself, but still havnt completed the raid, My reason for not doing so, Is the fact i have no drive in me whatsoever. I remember bombarding the forum for ppl to do the ODST vidmaster Endure challenge. Because at that time there was not only a goal/reason for doing so, but a reward that everyone before and after you wanted. To be honest. Even though i dont mind the grinding in Destiny. Im not willing to go through that same Vidmaster for an item which has already been nerfed.

        • Yeah, I haven't gone all the way with anyone either. I'm waiting for the right time, you know? So I've just been bidding my time "diddling myself solo" as well, waiting for someone special to come along. But I fear that if that doesn't happen for me soon, I too may need finally just go all the way with some strangers....better than never going at all I guess... (slouches).

          • To all the raid virgins here: when you finally found a raidparty, they can't carry you. You will have to pull your own weight and do what you're appointed to do. Also note that praetorians are real bitches and have to be killed very quick, so please carry the appropriate (void) weapons! Most important, don't be afraid to make mistakes. That's the way you will learn. Good luck on your future raids :-)

          • There are Raid finder websites. You haven't figured it out. "Oh! This mission in a game that requires six high-level players and is said to be the best part of the game and there is no efficient in-game way of organizing 5 other players! I bet that there is no website developed for organizing such a mission!" How can people be this slow? Typical.

            • Have not done it yet. Mostly, I just don't feel like I am at a good point to try it. I hit 26 a while back, but I wanted to wait until 27 before giving it a go. I also don't have a lot of long stretches to play, maybe 45 mins to an hour here and there at some weird times.

              • I find myself in a similar situation. However, I'm not totally ready for VoG quite yet anyway (lvl 26 Hunter) None of my real life friends play much anymore, and haven't gotten into Destiny. My son and his friends are into it, but we only have one copy of the game for now and can't play together. I think I have 2 random friends that I've ran a couple strikes with at one point. Beyond that, I don't find it easy to meet other people to form a regular group to run missions or the raid. As I feel I am getting closer to being ready for this raid, I've started looking at how it works in videos, and other write ups. My only concern is how I'm ever going to find a group of folks that will tolerate me through my learning of the run. Any of you want to throw me a friend invite on Xbox 360 I'm Chuci Browne. Playing as often as I can between 7-11pm PST and more on weekends.
