Raid Virgins
Anyone else still not done the Raid? What's your reason?
I've had Destiny since day one, have a lvl 29 Hunter and lvl 28 Warlock, and the closest I've come is to just killing things outside of the Vault for the hell of it. The few friends I have that had Destiny didn't like the game and have already jumped shipped to other stuff, leaving me to diddle myself solo and thinking about playing with strangers, which, since you can't talk to anyone without inviting to party, is a nightmare crapshoot. Will I get unbearable assholes barking orders and screaming at me if I die? Or worse, children? I'm an older gamer (33), very chill and relaxed and very much want the same in a Raid group.
Reading the forums however it seems the majority of experienced Raiders would soon as piss on a noob than Raid with one (and maybe rightly so, I admit) so at this point it may be more enjoyable to go at it with other noobs. Who knows.
Anywho. Any other Raid virgins out there?
*EDIT* I'm on Xbox One for those that asked. Gamertag is same as here. I usually play late at night (10:30pm-3am CST) if any of you goons are night owls like me.

[b]**UPDATE!!!**[/b] Went through the Raid for the first time tonight with a buddy, 3 randoms from the Forums (thanks dudes!) and one lvl 30 shining angel of cockness who showed up out of nowhere to carry our noob asses across the finish line with Atheon, and then to top it off, took my buddy and I through a couple of his hard mode checkpoints with his friends so we could get a bit more loot. In about 2 hours I came away Praedyth's Revenge, Corrective Measure, Found Verdict and a Raid chest piece for my Hunter, plus Chatterwhite and ascendant materials. Not too shabby. It was a lot of fun too, very chill and easy going group with the exception of one dude who bounced after a wipe but it turned out to be for the best. I still have a lot to learn though, the lvl 30 guy and his friends were ridiculous pros at it so I didn't have to do much. So you other guys that were reticent like me to hook up with strangers, I say go for it. I'm pretty stoked to go again so you guys sending me messages, keep hitting me up!

I have been invited to do the raid with friends but either I was doing something, or they found a 'replacement' for me because I replied to his invite with "hold on a second, let me get some void weapons". That really annoyed me.

I've had this game since day one. I haven't done the raid because, quite frankly, I'm a tad bit intimidated by the experience. Not so much the raid itself but the fact that I don't have a mic and I'm afraid of not understanding certain aspects of it and not being able to communicate it. I don't want to join a fireteam and wasting five other players' time by not being able to understand what to do. There's only so much a how-to video can teach you.

3 RepliesI just did it last weekend. The few people Ive played with on destiny that were good people were the ones that didn't have ridiculous gamer-tags. If a guy named "Hairybalzzzzzz" invites you to play, chances are high its a kid...avoid them like the plague and you'll be surprised how many good folks are playing. Good luck bud!

My group went with a couple of noobs last week. We were all playing with our alts, so got up to Aetheon and couldn't kill him. Either way, everyone was super cool and I think the noobs enjoyed the experience.

Hi I've felt the same about raids to start with but its not that bad it hard to get into a forum raid group as they fill up quickly just be honest and have a chat with your team at the start make sure people know wat ever ones done its all exp and a lot of raiders don't mind helping peeps who have little exp if u play for few hrs and leaders a dick just leave at least u know a bit more for next time its all good as for hard mode there's a good reason people won't let u in at lvl 28 cause its too hard once u die that's it no spawn baddies kill you one shot it is really hard most groups won't even accept lvl29

I haven't done it because they made it so hard to get a proper group together, I just don't have it in me. I'm quickly approaching the wall with the game. I have all characters at 29, all subclasses maxed, and with decent gear (SUROS, Ice Breaker, Patience and Time, Truth, and lots of Legendaries). I'm on the Xbox One and my Gamertag is CONAN9845. I play evenings during the week (Eastern time zone) and any time on the weekends. If anyone is looking to add a mature gamer (41), send my an invite.

But finding people who will welcome a random with no mic for hard is impossible. So I guess ill never see a mythoclast in my hands. If anybody wants a level 30 with experience and no mic let me know.

Xbox360 lvl 27 bladedancer. i have been invited to do the raid, but i originally wanted to wait to do it with my buds, as i even planned it out with them per role after some research. However, considering some previous......circumstances.......with one of them, thats impossible to manage. i would love to do it on the weekend with some of you.

Can't help since you're Xbox, but you have plenty of replies now so it's a non issue. It's just as annoying to be a raid noob and get yelled at for not carrying your weight in an event that requires everybody to do their part, as it is to be the experienced player having to deal with one or more raid noobs that are clueless and don't listen. However, I'll take a clueless raid noob over one that doesn't listen and work as a team though any day. Best thing the raid noobs can do is watch videos on what to do in each step of the raid, make sure your character is sufficiently strong to carry their weight (which means if it's your first time doing VOG, bring a character that's higher than the bare minimum stats and well equipped), and then come here and post that you're a raid noob but have a pretty strong character, and that you have a mic. Once you get into a group and start the VOG, listen a lot more than you talk, but if you don't understand what someone's referring to, just ask. Worst thing anyone can do is ask to join a raid without telling them that you've never been through the VOG before and have no clue what to do, and god forbid you don't have a mic. It requires TEAM WORK, communication, some patience, and a commitment of time. Definitely don't start a raid if you have to go do something in a half hour. Even on Normal, a good team is typically going take 45 minutes to an hour or more from start to finish. It can be done a little faster, but it can sure as hell take a lot longer if it's not a good, experienced group.

Also a VOG virgin... PS4 Lvl 27 Warlock... will be a pleasure to do try it out with others without the added pressure of screaming... to be honest in all fire groups i have randomly joined - the team was friendly and helpful.

1 ReplyBest advice I can give is hold out until you find a group you are comfortable with. Order barkers and little kids can make the raid and absolute nightmare experience as you still have to deal with the raid itself. Do it with people who smoke tree they seem to remain calm.

Didnt do the raid before because it doesn't have matchmaking. Still have done it because I'm over the game. It just isn't what i was looking for. No loot, no story, no customs... Or, just kinda "meh" in those categories.

My first raid I had no idea what was going on and received very little instruction, but they guys I was with were pros. It. Was. Awesome.
