You have officially lost a fan of your company for over a decade now. This is an individual who could not have done anything to shift your focus from whatever you and your new friendship with activisision want. I don't suspect that you realize the ramifications of the losses of some of your higher members like Marty. Hope you enjoy the increased income from the multiple platforms release. Selling your souls.

Marty... I have loved you since the day I heard the flintstones theme on the bungie podcast. "We are bungie kids... with plasma pistols glowing" You will be missed and I hope that your work is never forgotten and lives on through multiple mediums

It's obviously Deej's fault.

3 RepliesEnough with the hate people! That can come later (if it's deserved), once we learn the truth about why he was fired. For now we should wait. It may be that O'Donnell simply isn't required, or that they wish to give a new musician a shot. So don't lose your heads, and keep your eyes peeled for any more information on this matter.

I had a feeling Bungie would have an announcement for us this week.. Alas this is not what I had expected. I am heartbroken by this news and personally am starting to grow cold towards Bungie and the 7th column. I hope Bungie's "board of directors" take a step back and listen to its dedicated community before they start taking drastic steps in directions they can not turn back from. Honestly, a huge let down and I wish but nothing for the best for Marty.
-
Well, this news actually made me sad. First Staten, now Marty... Good luck to both but damn that was a gut punch. All good things must come to an end I guess.
-
Also do not forget it is the Board that make the decisions, not the designers and programmers and developers of the game. Do not be angry at the people who made Halo, Destiny, but mad at those above them.

Edited by Nayden: 4/16/2014 10:20:54 AMReally? that is what your going to come up with? That is unacceptable, you dont just remove an icon from your studio and the best composer in the industry without cause...you got some explaining to do Bungie!. Shocked as hell.
-
1 ReplyI'm gonna be honest, I'm losing a bit of faith in Destiny, maybe even Bungie too. What's up with this? First Joe and now Marty? It's sad to see that individuals who had such an impact on Halo, and presumably Destiny too, "choose" to leave or are "terminated" without so much as an explanation, or even a dedicated goodbye. It's getting to the point where I'm growing increasingly concerned and worried about this game. Is Activision overstepping their bounds with too heavy of a hand in too many areas? Or is the culture at Bungie changing for the worst?

Wha.....Why....? I said i wouldnt cry :,<!

Possibilities: 1) Bungie fired Marty for no reason (as Marty said on his Twitter) 2) Marty is lying on his Twitter, which leads to the following possibilities: 2)i) Marty was not fired. Then he left by himself. I believe this is unlikely. He wouldn't say on twitter that he was fired then, because it would be almost illegal because it makes Bungie look bad when they did nothing wrong. 2)ii) Bungie did fire him as he says, but they DID give a reason. But then you would wonder why Marty would lie about them not giving a reason. And why hasn't bungie responded to Marty's "lie". Are they all hiding something? In any case, Bungie is hiding something from us. In case 2)ii) it may be that it is in the best interest of both Marty and Bungie to not tell us why he left.

2 RepliesThat's not like bungie...

2 RepliesWho is this faceless "Board of Directors" and who's collective ass do we have to kick for booting the Grizzled Ancients? (Seriously, is Jason Jones next?)
-
On Marty's twitter he states "I'm saddened to say that Bungie's board of directors terminated me without cause" I don't know what has happened and a response from Bungie would be nice. With Marty gone it feels like Bungie is half dead. It feels like the good days of Bungie are gone.
-
Bungie, as a lifelong fan, I sincerely think this half-assed explanation was nothing short of grueling mistake of what is yet to come from the diehard fanbase you and Marty have helped create for the past decade. Please come back (and quickly) with a more thorough explanation of what in the world is going on with the termination of the most talented video game music composer in the business.
-
-blam!- you Bungie...or to be more accurate -blam!- you Bungie's BOD!! You guys suck! You fire the man who has been giving the fans the most awesome music throughout the decade? You fire the man who has with you even before Halo became famous? You fire the man without cause? You fire the very man, who if the MMO Destiny tanks might save it with his music? You fire our Ancient grizzled half Forerunner Half Precursor Composer? How dare you let him go in such a horrible manner?!!!
-
Red flags all up in here. Red team has all the flags.
-
One measley paragraph for a guy who has done more for bungie than few ever have. Something's not right. You give these new guys entire interviews for 'breaking-in' and yet can't even make the time to give an iconic producer a decent send off?
-
I thought Bungie was different from the other developers in the industry. I though they were supposed to be a family. That was clearly naive of me. Goodbye Marty. Your work has made a massive impact on my life. Whatever you do next, I know it will be amazing.
-
Frank left a long time ago. Now Joe's out, and now Marty's out? I'm sorry, but you haven't got any pillars left. Bungie has fallen. I don't care what Marty did to merit his firing, but it's shameful as hell for them to have Deej feed us a lie thinking we wouldn't find out and get upset. There isn't a bungie anymore. It's just activision, and I don't want any part of it.
-
Well, there went my purchase of Destiny.

I still can't believe I just recently found out about this news...I mean hell, I am damn speechless as heck right now. Marty O Donnel, the man behind the epic music for Bungie, is now fired by the same company he has worked on for god knows how long. I just...I don't know how I will be able to sleep tonight. God damnit all....

Ah man, this makes me sad. Such disrespect in so many fronts. I've pre-ordered Destiny and have been waiting for the chance to upgrade to Collector's Edition. And I've been already clearing my fall schedule to be able to sink my free time into this game. But this hit right to the feels. Right to the feels man. I don't know if I wish to spend my little spare time and minimal spare income on a product that has been created by a company that treats it's long-term employees this way. I'm not going to jump into any hasty conclusions, but I hope Bungie sheds some more light on this situation to clear things up.
