Thank you Bungie and content creators for beautiful memories

I know this might sound a little bit different but please stay and read. And maybe I will start with saying this: To Bungie and all content creators: thank you from a bottom of my heart for helping me to build amazing memories of my mother that will last eternity. You have no idea how much this means to me during those times. My mom passed away this week. She was not a gamer but she really enjoyed the lore of Destiny 1 and Destiny 2. We’ve spend endless hours talking about Light and Darkness, meaning of some stories, references to books/history/religion. Whenever I had time I was packing my console, bringing it to my parents house and booting up the game. My mom was always in the room when I was playing. Always asking questions what is the meaning of specific activity, what is the story behind it and what is the big picture. She was laughing her *** of when I got erased in VOG or doing some PvP. She was always cheering whenever I was able to complete hard content of this game. When D2 was announced and there were those commercials with Cayde and “there will be loot” (those were also available in Polish, our native language) she was the first to call me and ask “you are getting this game, right?”. She loved Cayde, was really interested in lore for Oryx, Crota and Eris Morn. Her favorite piece of lore was around “Luna's howl” (Thank you Byf for making truly awesome video that I had to translate into Polish for my mom to have her understand the story). When I was showing her Luna’s collar on Moon she actually asked me to stop for a moment, picked up one of her dogs and said “this is beautiful, this is what art is supposed to be”. We were watching together videos made by “Th3Jez” (she loved the comments) “MarcoStyle” (“why is he doing this stuff to Sleepy, this is not nice”) and of course lore vids by “My name is Byf” which were the conversation starters for hours and hours of debate. I would have never guessed that “simple” video game will be such meaningful experience. Once again: thank you Bungie for this. All content creators - thank you. This means everything to me. Guardians!!! There are two sidequest for you: 1. Share the lore, share the stories. Those are about good and evil, hope and despair, life and death. Anyone can relate to those - even non-gamers and older folks. 2. In those difficult times stay safe and healthy. My mom was beaten by cancer - make sure to do all health check ups and react accordingly. This is not a joke. And the reward for this quest is the most important exotic… Time with your family. P.S. My main is Hunter. So as Joseph I need to handle my grief now…

  • wyvernpl, I am so very sorry for your loss. It is absolutely amazing that you were able to share this common interest with your mom. I am so sorry to hear that she battled cancer, but I hope you can be uplifted knowing that her struggle is over and she is at peace. I do not doubt for one second that your mother was incredibly brave and courageous in the face of darkness, fear, and uncertainty. For, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.” ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt I believe that your mother recognized that family is more important than fear, and the love she felt enabled her to be courageous in spite of any fear she experienced. My deepest condolences to you and your family. Thank you for sharing. It is incredibly touching to hear stories like yours. God bless.

As the sun starts dipping behind the Mountains like a solar eclipse, the sky erupts into a soft red, orange, purple hue. The Lower Tower is busy with the bustle of Guardians and Civilians. In the distance, a soft boom echo’s the familiar sound of a Guardian ship dropping in from orbit. A Valkyrie-O5X comes into view cresting over the mountain side. This ship does not follow the same flight pattern as the other ships approaching Landing Zone. People and Guardians alike look up and watch as the Valkyrie increases speed and engages a combat drop maneuver. The scream of the engines and external dampeners engaging is deafening as the Valkyrie slows from sonic, to sub sonic. Those in the area can see the com-trails spooling from the tips of the wings and the crafts nose. The Valkyrie banks sharply into a deep dive pulling up at the last moment and threads the needle as it flies beneath the concrete walkway, coming to a stop as it hovers within the main courtyard in a cloud of dust and leaves. There is a loud crackling hiss between the belly of the Valkyrie and the ground as a Warlock Guardian shimmers into view, floating slightly as his body composes into view. Within a second, the Warlock gracefully drops to the ground in mid step, the Valkyrie banks and its engines scream as it accelerates up into the sky leaving a cloud of dust in its wake. A loud boom can be heard in the distance. Those in The Lower Tower can see that this Guardian is a seasoned Warlock. He holds out his hand as his Ghost materializes into view. The Warlock’s Ghost is encased in a Frontier Shell that shifts and moves. The Warlock nods to his Ghost. It darts around scanning the ground and quickly moves around the courtyard, while the Warlock follows behind. The Ghost darts back to the main area and scans one of the walls beneath the walkway and marks a spot. “Here…” it says. The Warlock’s body erupts in flame as he casts Solar Grenades into the spot. Rock and Metal can be seen melting together. The Warlock keeps casting Solar Grenades into the spot and throws one more just as the flames that engulfed his body fade. Breathing heavily as steam rises from the Warlock’s armor, the Warlock waits until the molten rock and metal cools just enough and he reaches behind his back as his armor pushes a Gjallarhorn up into his hand. He then takes the Gjallarhorn and places it into the cooling rock and metal, he reaches to his back waist as his armor pushes a plaque into his hand; and the Warlock does the same with the plaque as he did with the Gjallarhorn, offsetting it slightly. Slowly the rock and metal cools around the Gjallarhorn and plaque encasing parts of them in a makeshift memorial. The Warlock takes a step back kneels to one knee with his right arm resting on his knee, he slowly bows his head and places his left hand over his heart and remains in that position for a long time, as his Ghost hovers over his right shoulder and tilts forward slightly. After some time, the Warlock slowly rises and takes a few steps back. He opens his hand and his Ghost hovers over it and within a few moments the Ghost and the Warlock shimmer from view. A gust of wind blows the leaves and dust around where the Warlock once stood. As the fading sun moves from behind the mountain range a beam of light hits the plaque causing it to illuminate with a warm golden glow. The group of onlookers who gathered in front of the makeshift memorial read the words on the plaque. “In Memory of the fallen Clan Mate, Mother and Friend of Wyvernpl who has fallen IRL. Know that your family IRL Loves you, your Creator Loves you, I Love you. Your Son will always love you….. A part of you will live on within our hearts and memories. Your Family and my Pack will forever remember you and your Light. May your Light continue to be our beacon and guide us from the darkness. You will be missed, but never forgotten. Guardian Down….”

      • It sounds like your mother was a beautiful soul. ❤️ I wish I could have that kind of connection with my mother, but I play a lot with my stepfather, so I do have someone to bond with over Destiny. The lore behind this game is expansive yet engaging and awe-inspiring. I love explaining all of the backstory of each part of the game to my stepdad, and nothing makes me happier than to see his face light up in excitement to learn about it. I have never experienced the death of a parent yet, but even the thought makes me break down. In these times of sorrow, I can only give my condolences and wish the best for you and your family. Your mother will always be a special part of the Destiny community. - Destructo (Josh)

She enjoyed playing d1 a little bit but she never was a true gamer. She would always ask me how did you do that.It was twelve years ago when she passed away but every time I am playing destiny I can see my mom smiling and saying nice job.I'm sorry about your mom it saddens me to hear about someone died to this.I am truly sorry for your loss

      • This. This post is beautiful. I’m glad even your mother had an interest in Destiny lore because I do think it is some of the best story I’ve ever read. And I’m glad we were able to take a moment and appreciate Bungie for what good they had done and can still do, instead of just complaining about the game. I hope your family stays safe and all get better.

      • I wish I could have had something like this with my parents, I was a little wolf alone from the start, but it warms up my cold soul a little from this treasured tale and makes me happy that there are guardian mommies and daddies out there loving and caring for each of their little lights <3. Stand strong guardian, I know this might be a tough time for you, just remember guardians everywhere are thinking about you and wishing you the best. From your random wolfy friend Julie <3.
