The 8 Principles; Chapter 8: The Emissaries

Allo, Domund, Poma and Una managed to reach the Gate after a long walk through the kingdom. Through it, they would all be able to travel to the Interdimensional Market. The Gate was large, but no bigger than the castle entrance. It was mainly comprised of a pure, ashen-white door that was laced in golden bars and crests. In front of it were 2 guards wielding staffs that had spheres levitating at both of their ends. In front of the guards were a trio of men dressed in white robes that seemed to be awaiting a response from the guards. Poma examined the men in robes. Poma: “The Emissaries are here? Are they going to the Market as well, Allo?” Allo: “Unlikely. We probably just arrived at the same time they did.” Una: “What are the Emissaries?” Allo: “You didn’t know? The Emissaries are a group of people from the kingdom that travel to other realms that have advanced civilizations and races with promising technology. The Emissaries greet those civilizations and invite them to Paradisum in hopes of cooperating with and learning from each other.” Una: “So their job is to make friends?” Allo: “That’s... one way to put it, I suppose.” Allo, Domund, Poma and Una stood behind the Emissaries and waited for them to show the guards their permission slips. Allo recognized the Emissary in the front of the others and approached him. Allo: “Callow, is that you?” The man sighed and turned towards Allo. Callow: “What do you want, Allo?” Allo: “Ah, it is you! I’d recognize that sigh anywhere! How have you been, buddy? I never knew you became an Emissary!” Callow: “I’m busy right now, old man.” Allo: “Hey, just because I’m older than you doesn’t automatically make me ‘old’. We’re only a few years apart and we’re still in our prime. Say, where are you and your buddies going?” Callow: “First of all, they aren’t my ‘buddies’, they’re my partners. There’s a difference, you know. Second, the business of the Emissaries is not yours, so don’t pry into our work just so you can try to feed your insatiable curiosity.” One of the Emissaries began to speak out loud. Emissary: “We’re going to a realm that has these stone people that know how to make machines that turn any kind of garbage into a paste that can be used as renewable energy that could—“ Callow: “Shut the -blam!- up, Jaune! This isn’t your conversation!” The area fell silent as Callow shouts his command. Una moved closer to the Emissaries and noticed that they each bore glowing daggers under their belts. Poma quickly pulled her back. Poma: “I told you to stay close to me.” One of the guards handed Callow a slip of paper and pulled out a golden ring. He pinched the edge of the ring and pulled at it, creating a key that he inserted into the gate. The large doors opened and gave off a white energy that concealed what lay beyond the entrance of the Gate. Callow and the other Emissaries turned away from Allo and moved beyond the white energy, leaving the sight of everyone at the Gate’s entrance. Poma: “Who was that, Allo?” Allo: “Just an old student of mine. He’s not a very social person.” Una: “He didn’t seem like he was good at making friends.” Allo: “Yeah, he’s pretty quick to anger.” Una: “They also had weapons.” Allo: “Well, not every encounter that the Emissaries have end in a friendly way, so they always go prepared for... conflict.” One of the guards reaches out his hand as if demanding something from the group. Allo hands his permission slip that he received from King Dezi to the guard. Poma: “Ballore isn’t here yet. Odd. She’s never late.” Allo: “She probably went on ahead, then. I guess we should have kept speed walking, huh, Dommie?” Domund remained silent. The guard returned the permission slip to Allo after reading it and opened up the Gate. It once again emitted the white energy from before. Allo: “Well, we’ll see you two on the other side.” Allo and Domund walked through the field of white energy and moved on to their destination to the Market while Poma and Una waited to receive permission from the guards.
Fades Away
