I'm not fond of lore going away

"The mystery of the Corridors of Time has been unraveled. The Corridors have become unstable and will collapse in one week. Claim the lore and emblem within before it shuts forever." This is what greeted me when I logged in today. Now I don't care about the emblem, I'm fine with it being a sort of "I participated in this" time-limited thing. But the lore though? That's part of this game's history, part of the narrative, and someone who missed this one-week window will never get it. I find that unacceptable. I'm generally really sick of entire story threads (not just lore, but missions, conversations etc.) just vanishing with your seasonal-model. I'm really sick of the constant FOMO. I might want to replay this game's entire story at some point, read the relevant lore... but you make that impossible. A huge part of why I play games is because of the story, and I really don't enjoy you deleting parts of it every few months. I for one can do without this "ever-evolving world" of yours if this is the price to pay.

  • Thanks for the feedback, Noble. Wanted to dig deeper, if you have a moment. With the Corridors closing out, where would you have liked to see this Lore go, in terms of acquisition?

    • <I'll be brutally honest, SOMEONE at Bungie (really don't know who, could be a whole team) really dislikes the ability to replay content. STORY While in D1 you could replay (almost) every story mission from the map with their own difficulties, in D2 you could only play a random 3 from Ikora. While it gave her vendor purpose, I find it odd that you couldn't reselect them. This improved with the Heroic Playlist, but it was still a random batch. Curse of Osiris and Warmind had two of their missions as strikes, but the dialogue was different to add a different context to them. You can't replay those unless you play the whole campaigns all the way through. CoO's best mission, "Beyond Infinity" was also unavailable to be replayed until the heroic playlist, which was bull because it was the only mission that bothered to explain anything. I kind of like the way Shadowkeep's doing it now, but I'd honestly rather just have the nodes on the map again. QUESTS Like the Corridors of Time, there were other things that were needlessly cast aside. The Nessus Quest "O Captain My Captain" and the Io Quest "Dynasty" were arguably the best pieces of story content we got in this game because they were actually interesting. You can play them a total of three times, one on each character... and no further. For the Saint-14 quest for CoO, you could only play that ONCE since the Prophecy Weapons were account-based. In contrast, ALL of Rise of Iron's quest missions and MOST of TTK's quest missions were replayable. Even if they weren't re-selectable, they could still be played on other characters and wouldn't go away until you did them. My Titan still has the final mission from the No Time to Explain quest on her because the Vex there were actually friendly until you shot them. ADVENTURES The worst. A bunch of quick, easy, simple, potentially interesting activities that once could be replayed 3 at a time every week... reduced to just heroics (but only on Mars and Mercury unless it was a flashpoint), to literally just heroics and on flashpoint. Why? Some of these missions were actually pretty fun, but now I have to wait till flashpoint to replay them? Not to mention that adventures are sometimes the only activities you can actually hear all of a destination's musical score, something most people don't care about, but I guess we'll always have those that believe the Black Armory Forges used new music. I know people rag on the story, quests, whatever, but damn I'd like to replay things. I realized halfway through typing this that this has little to do with the OP, but damn it irks me.>

      • I do not get a lot of Bungies business decisions which was one of the main reasons for me to quit before Shadowkeep came out. I still have D2 on my watchlist because it has its moments for sure and I would love to see it shine. But the new business model is just so not welcoming returning players. In other MMO's it's common that they have a core base who keeps playing no matter how boring it may be at some stage and you have new ones and returning players who come back after a Year and start replaying content they missed out on. Why on Earth is this no longer possible with D2? Season gone, everything is gone. Enjoy a handful of new weapons and a new armor set in the loot pool. Honest question....who likes this model? In my opionion it is bad for both sides. The player who just misses out on things that would have made him spend $$$ and Bungie misses on those $$$. Also, on a side note. I know quite a few programmers. Not one of them would appreciate it if their code just vanishes after three months for something they worked weeks for. How is this model for Bungie's coders? Can they give up on the majority of what they have created so easily? I don't get it.

        • Yeah I don't like that Bungie will remove seasonal content while the season is still ongoing. My sister started D2 up again and bought the season pass a couple days after Saint-14 'returned to the tower.' She mains an exo Titan and when I told her what the season was about she was really looking forward to doing the missions to go back and save Saint; but because she was 2 days late she missed out on it and was honestly pretty disappointed. We haven't played D2 in a while so we didn't realize she would be locked out of it :(

          • Nope, should stay in the game with another way to unlock it, I don't understand the business model, create "new" (take that with a pinch of salt) content, then remove it after 3 months without updating the core game?? Wtf

          • I agree wholly with this. Instead of the lore pages from the book Last Days on Kraken Mare simply going away with the end of Season of Undying, Ikora could still give Vex-related bounties that could drop the lore pages. Right now, Ikora is a pretty useless NPC, anyway. Or she could give the lore pages in the same way Eris did with the Unveiling lore book.

          • Running all 19 of the lore 'paths' and the one emblem path should take you about an hour. Maybe a touch more. Why not just run them, get the enjoyment of doing it and getting the lore at the same time? With the amount of time you spent making this post, you could've done 3-4 lore runs.

          • That's the whole point of their new sales pitch. You buy into whatever they throw out, if only one minor detail about the package intrests you, get lost basically. Aka. An excuse to push out 80% garbage, 20% something meaningful and not 110% effort and quality content.

            • I would love to see a in game Lore Library at the Tower. Where you can walk around and pick up a book and a small cutscene or picture will move/play, freeze, and then you are clear to read. Such as the Worm Speaking to Auresh. Or a mini clip of what Shaxx did at the Battle of Twilight Gap.

            • I felt the same way when I realized the Undying lore was going to disappear after the season. Glad I got it all. However, in a game that they want to have a “constantly evolving world,” how can it be constantly evolving if you remove things every three months??? You’re just making temporary content that becomes irrelevant within three months. Why on earth would you set up a system like that?

              • 100 percent agreed. I love going back and starting from the beginning, picking up the stuff I missed the first time. Renting a video game? No thanks. If nothing but the free game is permanent, then guess how much money you're getting from me in the future, bungie.

I see your point and also see that many share it. I am personally conflicted because I personally enjoy a changing world where "you should've been there" is something that can be said. At the same time I am one of those people that are pretty damn upset we aren't allowed to replay The Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, Forsaken, and Shadowkeep campaigns. There is a line to walk here that Bungie clearly isn't walking, or they are trying to walk and failing at it. I feel like ultimately the removal of the corridors of time is a good thing but I think things like the Saint-14 missions (where you save him) should be kept in the game after Season of Dawn goes away because of the significance of that story. I don't have an answer I guess but definitely sympathize with you even if I may disagree regarding this one specific place going away.

                • I HIGHLY agree! Bungie your thoughts on the matter? In something sort of related I really wish the would bring back the Dead Ghosts like in D1. I actually really enjoyed it because it was like a big scavenger hunt and got lore in the process.

                  • I played the Sundial like twice, Legend once. I've barely engaged with Season of Dawn so far. Didn't speak to Eva once during the Dawning. At this point, I won't touch Corridors just because of the "bEtTeR dO iT bEfOrE iT dIsApPeArs" message I logged in to yesterday. You guys can keep your FOMO 👍🏻😘

                    • Am I the only person who doesn’t really care about the lore? It’s so pointless because 90% of it either doesn’t make any sense, isn’t relevant to the game, or is annoyingly difficult to piece together.
