I checked the article you linked, but it seems to just offer steps for console players. Do you know how I can execute this process on Steam/PC? I'll see if I can find anything on Google in the meantime.

You can verify game files through the Steam client.

I did so now and it just said "All files successfully validated," so I'm assuming there wasn't any file corruption. Hopefully the issue is resolved one way or the other.
