It didnt make it more fun, it made it more rewarding. The activity hasnt changed as it is as fun now as it was before..
Now, while I did enjoy the "unintentional" glitch, unfortunately I have to say it was too much, and it would have made it very hard for bungie to implement loot systems on upcoming activities. Lets be fair, if they were to leave this as it is and then introduce a new activity of a similar type with single drop at the end people would have not liked that either.
My take is that they will have to come up with a solution and increase it a bit, not to the extend it was before buy maybe guarantee 2 drops if your chalice is maxed out or give more drops the more times you run it consecutively. Or, give a chest or a "key" at the end of each successful section that you can use to open the final chest, meaning that if you complete it flawless you will get 3-4 drops per run.
But let be honest, it was too much, and it was game breaking to an extend. I personally think that the way this works where you can select what exact weapon/armor you want is great, and it is something that would make the reckoning much more attractive if they had it implemented as well. Its a great improvement, and if we never would have experienced the chest glitch we probably wouldnt have complained...

Well being able to farm the chest was fun, and added to the fun of running menagerie

Opening a chest is not fun, no matter how you look at it, what you got of the chest was maybe but not fun, at least not to me of course If I have to choose between an activity where you only have to open a chest and an activity like the menagerie I would say that the Menagerie is fun while the other is not.

Ok. I agree. 100%. Seems reasonable and easy to adjust to.
