1 ReplyEdited by Lost Sols: 12/2/2018 5:06:54 PMWhen giving weapons much faster kill times in the new sandbox, the devs came up with the solution of doing it by raising critical damage. This meant people could get the D1 kill times, but they'd have to land precision shots to do it. Auto Rifles aren't precision weapons. You'll surely have noticed the new pinnacle AR from Gambit is described as a "precision Auto Rifle". That's the work-around to the problem currently. I'm not sure why body damage couldn't just be increased across the board on them, but obviously they have reasons to not want to do that (my guess is a fear of making them too close to precision weapons in kill times because we've seen how that played in year one. People tend to use what kills fastest and easiest. ARs definitely top ease of use and year one Crucible showed this all year long. Something else, I also believe this is why Scouts are so lackluster as well. Scouts body damage is already trash versus hand cannons and about even on precision damage. That's been a problem since D2's launch and it's a big reason Nameless Midnight was actually so much better than any others because the explosive rounds made up for the missing body damage. Now however, there's almost no benefits to using a Scout over a good ranged Hand Cannon because again, the HCs do just as much precision damage and actually do more body damage at scout range lol. Also, and this is the kicker for PvP, it's easier to land precision shots the closer you are and it's easier to actually ADS a hand cannon than a scoped scout rifle. If you miss a precision shot with a hand cannon, you're still okay. Miss with a scout and you're completely hosed. It takes 6 body shots and 2 seconds to kill with a High Impact scout. That's insane. It's by far the slowest non-critical TTK in the game and to put it in even more perspective as to why High Impact scouts are so awful overall, even the other scouts kill faster on all body shots. 180 RoF are the same 6 body shots at 1.67 seconds. Auto Rifles are 1.33 seconds on body damage. That is much better than scouts, but when you take into account they're spray-and-pray weapons that by nature aren't precision weapons, that doesn't really compete in Crucible versus hand cannons that are killing in .67-.80 seconds. Yes hand cannons have slower body shot TTKs at 1.33-1.73 seconds, but they're precision weapons and the easiest to land those precision shots in the game, particularly when weapons like Trust have basically zero recoil. Hope this helps and hopefully Bungie find a solution.

1 ReplyBecause around the time Forsaken was released Bungo released a sandbox patch that nerfed body damage and buffed precision damage on all Auto's making them less the useful across the board. Bam. One sentence and you have all the information you need. Unlike the novel from Sols.

Because PvP. What, am I wrong?
-
They are not pulse rifles, so they suk

9 RepliesYou want to know why auto rifles are trash? ...... then go and have a look at the stats and you will see why. Ever since the start of Destiny 2 auto rifles have been garbage even my old favourite suros regime is a former shadow of its self. It’s like bungie has forgotten how to make good auto rifles anymore
-
Auto rifles and scouts are seriously lack luster and need some buffing. I have a hazard of the caste that deals 10 to the body and 22 to the head... that is pretty sad. Had to put a major spec on it to deal any kind of decent damage for the type of auto it is.. Im just glad the breakneck is decent, but will be great with a major spec in it.
-
Body shot damage needs buffs, the headshots are actually fine and have a ttk of around .6-.7 which is around what hand cannons do however landing even a single body shot can cause that .6 to go up to a full second or even 2. Body shot damage was left alone for some weird reason and that is what caused auto rifles to suck. This is why hand cannons are the meta, you only need 3-4 headshots to get kills while you need way more with auto rifles to even get a good ttk. Destiny 1 body shot damage was perfect, I remember monte carlo for example did 21 to the head while body shots did like 20. If you landed all headshots you would obviously kill faster but landing one body wouldn’t penalize you as much.
-
Too much focus on headshots. Body shot damage needs to be brought up so that if you miss a few crits you're not doubling your ttk.
-
They were nerfed a couple of seasons ago. So buffing them, geez. They literally could snipe you in year 1 season 1. So I'd rather not buff them unless you mean damage. If damage, maybe.
-
1 ReplyThey aren't trash; scout rifles are What autos needs is a damage buff. not one to killf aster, but to make them better at reaching optimal TTK
-
1 ReplyYou have to land all headshot otherwise it’ll take like a full mag to kill an afk

4 RepliesEdited by Darth Lunchbox: 12/1/2018 11:44:31 PMTake one into Gambit and see how bad they are, other than Cerberus +1, they are really bad, Sub machine guns are better if that tells you anything.
-
They were year one meta so they are going to be obsolete like scouts for a while.
-
1 ReplyThey're trash because of their body damage nerf when Forsaken came out.
-
Auto what? What's that???
-
2 RepliesI don't know, I just had a hazard drop with Extended barrel High caliber Triple tap Rampage It melts.
-
With the right perks I think some are pretty good. My Misfit is great with range mw+hcr, so is my Hazard with range mw+HCR+zen moment+outlaw.

13 RepliesReally? My Breakneck is pretty godly.

1 ReplyWe were spoiled with Counterbalance + Braced Frame auto rifles in D1. The transition to D2 recoil has not been a cake walk.
-
Because with Forsaken, they decided to make all primary weapons extremely dependent on precision hits. So just by their nature, ARs get the short end of the stick.
-
they are rotating the meta, like they always do.
-
.04%?

1 ReplyEdited by LiftAnEye: 12/1/2018 7:43:08 AMGet that Breakneck. Otherwise, I agree. I'm hoping this may be a prelude of things to come, but if not, this is the go to auto rifle.

The primary auto rifle seem to be in a good spot, it’s the energy auto rifles need a lot of love. Vanilla D2 Energy auto rifles we’re great, now the few they have are pointless 😞
-
Scouts are infinitely worse. At least there are viable autos.
