Golden gun with Celestial Nighthawk should be the highest damage single hit in the game (across all classes). Right now, blade barrage does more single-target damage, and it shouldn’t. Why?
- You have to use your exotic slot
- You can only (reliably) hit one target
- You have to get a precision hit for max damage
- You only get one shot
Considering the versatility of blade barrage (can use for boss damage or ad clearing) versus how limited golden gun with Celestial Nighthawk (CN) is (single-target clearing or boss damage), coupled with the fact that it does less damage, there is no reason to use CN in place of any other exotic with blade barrage...
(By the way... please correct me if I’m wrong but when I did a single-target damage comparison, blade barrage seemed to be doing more)
Titan and Warlock supers should NOT do more damage than golden gun with CN as all of their supers are roaming or have significant area-of-effect damage and can therefore easily and very reliably damage multiple targets.
Thoughts? I’m open to debate.

1 ReplyJust to clarify, you're using it with Way of the Sharpshooter correct?
-
Celestial nighthawk is the single most damage from a shot in the game. Blades is about 30 blades hitting the ground.

Edited by DuBChiri2: 11/13/2018 7:48:22 PMCelestial is designed for instant damage. It's not supposed to be versatile as it is effectively the fastest high damaging super in the game. Not to mention it will consistently hit for max damage where as blade barrage will scatter at a distance. It's both better and worse but that's the trade off. Instant consistent damage vs spread out damage that can be used like a shotgun at closer ranges. I'm pretty sure though that burning maul with synthoceps and roaring flames is the strongest super in the game. If you slam them point blank it hits twice and the tornado damage adds up. Understandably devastator should be strong as hell because it's such a bitch to get ready and will effectively do nothing without stacks.

I'm pretty sure it got a Nerf, I used to be able to one shot the taken blight boss in dreaming city one shot at a low level, not at 600 it leaves him at 1/4 health.

They have actually nerfed Gold Gun in general making it near worthless. When I was finishing my triumph to kill invaders that are using their super, I shot a guardian with two gold gun shots and didn't kill them. Had to equip CNH just to one shot a guardian... #makegoldengungreatagain

3 RepliesIf you get a crit it out damages blade barage

2 RepliesIt does out damage blade barrage

1 ReplyI mean chaos reach with geomags should do just as much and it may idk what the numbers are. It also takes up an exotic slot and takes 8 seconds to cast. Meanwhile after firing a celestial shot, you can follow up with sleeper or whisper. But I totally agree that it should blow blade barrage out of the water

I always liked cn and boom huge damage but now it's meh

1 ReplyI'm pretty sure CN still outdamages blade barrage if the videos I've watched are to be believed. On small targets the difference is very noticeable but even on large targets I still believe Nighthawk is king. Add in orb generation on hit, not kill and it's pretty sweet. With minimal effort we had 3 hunters use a total of 6 nighthawk shots on Riven and destroyed him.

4 RepliesChaos reach should be the king of super damage tbh. Thundercrash should do a bit more damage. One shot from a golden gun(nighthawk) should not do more damage than an 8 second long concentrated beam of lightning.
-
1 ReplyOn most targets a crit celestial does more. On some targets the crit multiplier is weird and BB does more. But if I’m not mistaken celestial typically does more.
-
True true true. I also think Nighthawk should get a visual boost too. It should hit hardest and I honestly think freaking lava should pour out of the headshot and melt any enemy on the ground close to it. It should be an AHHHH moment IMO.
-
2 RepliesI had wondered about that. Roaming supers ultimately should be capable of doing more damage than single target supers though because it requires damage over time. One and done supers offer option of massive damage followed by shooting heavy, which due to how game is structured right now means quicker progression in battles. They have made most bosses have immune phases and the one and done supers can override this in most cases because they do all the damage immediately before Immunity sets in. The game is unfortunately set up in favor of the instant supers for damage output and this usually leaves the roaming supers with Immune targets before they are expired.

7 RepliesDepends on the target. Critical hits vs entire target. Wrecking and ogre - probably blade barrage . Hitting riven without nuking eyes? Golden gun.
-
Code of the missile should do more because you end up right in the middle of all the baddies after with zero protection. Golden gun can safely activate at a distance. It should be #2 in damage dealing though.
-
Agreed
-
I dont even use CN nor blade barrage very often, but I agree, it should be the highest dps
-
Agreed, i made a post about this a while back but it got lost in the nerf cries.
-
1 ReplySomeone posted a vid comparing blade barrage and GG with the Helm on Kali and GG with the helm did something like twice the damage compared to blade barrage. So there you have it GG with the helm is still the highest DPS on bosses.
-
1 ReplyI hit for over 800,000 on riven bro, when nighthawk golden gun gets a crit, blade barrage doesnt even come close Your comparing body shot damage
-
1 ReplyWhy should it be the most damaging in the game? Because of an exotic? Its not any different from nova bomb or any one time super
-
I've tested nighthawk to blade barrage on the blind well boss shields: blade barrage takes out the shield in one go and sometimes a little health, nighthawk leaves about .2-.25 of the shield. The difference is the shield blocks a headshot so the nighthawk would do considerably more damage if it was a crit. Blade barrage also suffers from spread as well as auto-targeting of adds. If the target is smaller' then there is a chance that knives will miss and less damage will be done.
-
It depends on the target, small things are not the best for Blade barrage as direct impacts are worth a good bit.

Celestial still does the most, but is lacking because it does a fraction more than BB
