It appears to be set in or near the city of chur on the Rhine river . There is a dam near there , there are mountain ranges to the north west , and the street signs around point to cantons and landmarks in the relative vicinity of chur , an. The town trostland does not seem to exist but it’s real life counterpart is somewhere in Switzerland.
Edit : any other info we can dig up would be cool .

there is a road sign that is the name of a mountain in switzerland

If you read the description for trostland it states that trostland was a golden age town suggesting that it was made later in the future, therefore it is not a real life location.

4 RepliesTo be fair though chur is in Graubünden, so the Graubünden sign would indicate it’s not chur. However, based on what everything else says I believe it may actually be in Lichtenstein. It’s it’s own small country right next to Switzerland, literally almost completely surrounded by Graubündnen and fairly close to the mountain. It’s also often called an unofficial Swiss canton. I can confirm it isn’t Glarus, not is it St. Gallen or Ticino therefore Lichtenstein is actually the best bet. And yes, they do speak German there

7 RepliesFools. It's clearly Australia.

5 RepliesThis is kinda unrelated but I think it would be badass if we got to go to a siva infected Las Vegas. Call it the plagued city or something and the enemy can be siva scorn or something.
-
6 RepliesAs likely a candidate as any. But it will forever be known to me as Toastland after a clanmate didn’t care enough to fully read the word 😄

4 RepliesOne of the places I would love to visit next to New Zealand.

1 ReplyEdited by Grzzldgamer: 7/25/2018 3:46:07 AMYes it is! Your character needs to visit the “Quarantine Sector 236” and there was the first surprise, a sign in German with the words “Betreten verboten” what roughly means “No trespassing” Slightly left and above of it are two more, saying: “KATASTROPHENGEBIET KEIN ZUTRITT” (Disaster Zone no entrance) and “WARNUNG STRASSE GESPERRT” (Warning road closed) After these three signs, all written in German, a player could be thinking that the EDZ is in Germany. But what about the other German speaking countries in Europe, Austria and Switzerland? Ok, while in the first mission of the “Red War” we know the EDZ has to be in one of these three countries. The next hint comes when entering the next region, the “Blackened Forest” I don´t know if it was intentional from Bungie or not, but in Germany there is actually a region called the “Black Forest." But at that point in the game I thought: “A coincidence?”. It is also the only time where it´s called like that. During later visits of the region it´s always called the “Dark Forest” And then you visit Trostland… Trostland the name it self sound very German, translated it means Trost = solace/ comfort/ consolation and Land = country/ state/ ground. After landing in the EDZ for the first time the guardian needs to visit Devrim Kay one of the NPC in the game. When you´re look very closely you can find more hints of the location of the EDZ all around you. The dialog with Devrim unlocks the next step and you have to go into a salt mine, but here it´s called “SALZWERK“. Until now every hint of where the EDZ could be located was very detailed, but here got Bungie a little sloppy, because “Salt Mine” translates into “Salzbergwerk“. A “Salzwerk” is actually where the salt will be processed. Just a small translation mistake. When you start exploring the EDZ and can discover much more hints of it´s location. The most obvious are these two, road sign of “Graubünden” and “Zervreilahorn“. Both look like signs from the German “Autobahn” (Highway) and there is a A5 and an A8. But the named regions on them actually exist, but not in Germany rather than in Switzerland. Graubünden is a Canton (state/ region) of Switzerland and the Zervreilahorn is a mountain within said Canton. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Zervreilahorn/@46.6160701,8.9472034,10.17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x4784fdf88b89de29:0x7ca0f57cda439ed8!8m2!3d46.5506995!4d9.0613894

1 Replyirrelevant fact: they would not let arnold schwarzenegger do the german dub for the terminator movie because to germans the austrian accent sounds like a farmer.

Cool. Maybe one day I'll pull a Golden Age timepiece out of all those chests I open. My Guardian could use a Neitling Gravitimer....
-
Pretty sure it's based off a town in Germany they said
-
14 RepliesThen wouldn't the signs be in Swiss and not German? Or did the Third Reich happen during the Golden Age and we just didn't notice?
-
I say it is in Germany - and what I say goes.
-
Either Alpine Germany or Switzerland. The signage is in German, which is spoken in both countries.

3 RepliesIts widows court from D1. Get outta here with that mapquest garbage.
